Day 1 purchase for me. PC Gamers will be in for a treat. Dark Souls is an incredible game, one that is so fitting for the PC community. I can't wait to play it at 60 FPS and 1080p. Exclusive bosses sold me too. I'm hoping it will allow modding
[QUOTE="Heirren"]So you're essentially the kid in primary school who would tout their new toy only to get upset when others would also get it? Well that's hilarious. Grow up.Console gamers have moved on. Nice to see the pc fanboys craving that console style gameplay, though.

If there is any correlation here, it would be the complete opposite. I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy in that pc fanboys bash consoles, when the games that stem from them are the very nature that is Dark Souls. To read thread titles along the lines of "What is the point of console gaming.." or "Reasons why pc gaming nullifies consoles" etc, and then turn around and read this one--well it makes me laugh.
5mln is staggeting number, but in reality it is meangingless and doesn't have any effect on the market. The only thing that matters in real world is the 1,1 mln sold number[QUOTE="peterw007"]Five million copies were pirated.
One million were bought legitimately.
That's staggering.
AdrianWerner
If you think all 5,000,000 copies that were "wasn't gunna buy it anyways" you are delusional.
I'll admit, there is a portion of that, but the majority are a result of the supply/demand being thrown out of whack by a $0 product.
Don't believe the pro-pirate BS--it's just an excuse for entitled dbags to get free stuff and feel good about themselves with pseudo-intellectual logic.
If you think all 5,000,000 copies that were "wasn't gunna buy it anyways" you are delusional.
Vraeth
You're delusional if you think anyone can predict how many of them would buy it or not and you would be completely unfit to run any business if you would take such thing into consideration when making a game on a platform. All that matters is if the legal copies sold will give you enough profit. If 1 mln copies sold gives you a great profit you do it, even if 5 billion other people will pirate it.
[QUOTE="Nanomage"][QUOTE="ultraking"]Demons souls was betterultrakingEmphasis on "was".damn you! Lol. Demons souls IS the better game. Dark souls is for the noobz
No it is not, Dark Souls is far better in every way
Plus has 10x more content and art variety, better graphics, far better combat, vastly better world design and non linearity etc
Hermits are really lucky to get that game, i will rebuy it on PC too myself, cant have enough of Dark Souls

From what I've read in such threads, most of the barbs are directed at the console hardware itself, not the games.

Basically it's a little different because it is the fighting style that is region based not the person. Or you're trying to say that India Pale Ales aren't really IPAs unless they were made in India? By the way, their historical origin beer wasn't made in India, either. ;D JRPG is a special case because we have a significant chunk of people actively *trying* to ignore the original gameplay-based definition. The devs, from Japan, say it's not a JRPG.
It's been proven that it has not been pirated anywhere near 5 million times and it has sold a lot more than 1 million. Please try again ;)ducati101Huh, proven where? First time I saw people talking about this, I did a quick check and saw that TW2 fired off an HTTPS phone-home, which would make it pretty easily to report how many copies of a game are being played without even bothering to look at torrents.
If memory serves me correctly, you may not post scans of US based publications on this site--however, you may post scans from publications outside the US. I'll check on this to get a good answer. Are german scans ok on this site? I know alot of others sites don't really tolerate english scans but are ok with foreign ones. There's some pictures of the two new bosses for the PC version.

TW2 did in fact get pirated 5 million times, if you take into account every copy distributed by alternative methods than public P2P trackers.
-
But what does "HTTPS phone-home" even mean?
I doubt it´s gonna be full price on the PC,if they´re smart they´ll do what remedy did with Alan Wake.I am curious if people would be willing to pay 60 buxx on a port that's slightly less than a year old. Cuz that might be a bad price line for a game that's already played to death by console fans.

Price hasn't been confirmed yet and hardly do ever near one year old ports cost full price.I am curious if people would be willing to pay 60 buxx on a port that's slightly less than a year old. Cuz that might be a bad price line for a game that's already played to death by console fans.

Do you have any idea what the pirating world is like?
It's absolutely massive...larger than any community you could possibly imagine.
Just imagine all of the private trackers that feature TW2, all of the warez forums that feature TW2, all of the private forums that feature TW2, all of the public IRC distribution networks that feature TW2, all of the usenet caches that feature TW2, all of the DC++ hubs that feature TW2, etc.
According to TorrentFreak:
In the same interview the CEO also said that despite selling over a million DRM-free games, many people still pirated it. According to his own accounting some 4,5 million copies were shared on BitTorrent alone. Although this is a few million more than TorrentFreak's tracking systems report, there have indeed been lots of downloads of the game.
TorrentFreak
It's not a stretch at all to believe that a couple million more copies were shared via alternate distribution methods.
If you don't agree, you obviously have no idea of the scope of piracy.

COD was pirated around 5 million times on public torrents alone.
Witcher was pirated around 5 million times in total.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if COD was pirated 10 million times or more when considering all of the ways you could pirate a game.
-
The Witcher 2 isn't niche at all...it sold 1 million copies, and it's been largely touted as "one of the must-get PC games."

But it didn't. CDPR's was simply a guestimate, but it wasn't even in the top 5 most PC pirated titles of 2011.

The top 5 most pirated titles statistic only takes onto account public torrents.
Millions of other people use alternative methods than public torrents to download illegally, especially because torrenting publicly is risky and if unprotected, can lead to a lawsuit or a court settlement.
Why the hell do consolities bring up piracy? What does that have to do with anything? It's easily the weakest argument out of all the sh*t I've heard on here and most of the time it has no relevancy with the subject matter. No one gives two sh*ts if bob from some random 3rd world country pirates a game.

Millions of people pirate games where they are actually sold.
The USA alone has millions of pirates.
Considering that some developers have chosen not to release games on the PC because of piracy, I'd say that piracy is a pretty big deal.
