I have played about an hour of this so far. (just got to Paradise)
It is not a 6, I would say 8ish is a fair score. The game play is fun, the graphics are good. I am playing in the 40fps mode since I have a 120Hz TV with VRR and it runs smooth.
The GS reviewer's complaints about gear and enemy scaling is kind of silly, isn't that pretty much every RPG where the enemies get harder and you need new ger to defeat them? I notice no difference in that regards to games like Elden Ring
I'm a bit further, and I agree - it's feeling like an 8 so far.
I'm enjoying the hand-crafted world. It has almost a Morrowind feel to it - maybe not in the scope, but in the way that everything is traversable and there's stuff hidden everywhere in all directions.
I'm also digging the lore. I'd forgotten how rich this setting was. It's a little, uh, dense with minor characters from the previous games, but I can definitely forgive that. It's more Pillars of Eternity and that can only be a good thing.
The combat is fine, too. Not amazing, not terrible. A bit clunky, but I'm playing a wizard so I appreciate it isn’t lightning fast. I'd put it somewhere on the lower end between Skyrim and Dark Messiah. The free-form skill system seems pretty good, too, even if it does feel odd that Might increases your wand damage.
The island itself is giving me Risen vibes. Again, familiar but not unwelcome. I don't know how well it'll shape up to any of these games I keep referencing, but I'm keen to find out.
