[QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"][QUOTE="Animal-Mother"] And what about the early adopters. Still play uncharted 2 for 600.

Animal-Mother

doesn't matter, it's not he past it's the present... and the PS3 is $300

So sony gave them 300 dollar refunds?

do you get a refund on your PC that you get 2 years ago, then all the parts go down on price?

A high end card costs as much as a PS3. Using your words, a "decent PC part" could cost as little as $100.

lundy86_4

That's not all. Include the Processor + Mobo, RAM and a 5770 perhaps. These are not the complete components and yet the price is higher than the cost of the PS3

I know it is. That much is obvious, and for reasons I explained in my initial post (regarding manufacturing costs and bulk purchasing). All I said, was that a decent PC part was not the price of a PS3. In fact, it is much cheaper. Only high end parts cost as much as a PS3, and really that would only be the GPU and CPU, as RAM (evenn DDR3) isn't all that expensive (around $150 for 6gb).

It also depends on the components you are buying. It's possible to find good processors for the sub-$100 range etc. Not every part must be top-of-the-line.

Well, yeah. But it's a fact that PC is much expensive than consoles. Even you build a PC that has the same price as consoles. I doubt that it will perform well and can max the games like......GTA IV

The PC is a great gaming platform, arguably the best. but a good gaming PC will set you back about £300 - £400.where as the PS3 is just £250. No PC for that price could run games with graphics like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Infamous 2, and lair.

So pound for pound the PS3 the playstation 3 offers the best graphics experience around.

Please feel free to disagree.

AdrianWerner

Pound for pound PlayStation 2 owns PS3 in graphics. No PS3 can run PS2 level of graphics for mere£99

So pound for pound the playstation 2 offers the better graphics experience than PS3

Haha. :) Way to turn OP's logic on him/her. I just bought a PS2, a bunch of accessories, God of War and God of War II on Ebay for $40.00...Pound for pound, PS2s are a steal these days.

The PS3 cost me around $600 when I bought it(or around £470)

The only reason the price has gone down is because the technology is old. How is it fair to compare the price of new technology vs old? Obviously the older product is going to be cheaper. Either way, I believe my PC has given me a much better experience due in large part to the deals that can be found through digitial distribution sites. I often buy games that are 25%+ cheaper than their console counterparts.

Im pretty sure there are some rebates. So you get something back if you shop smart.

Still PS3 will never really hit what the PC has to offer.

Much more expensive? Not really. You can build a solid computer for $600, and can save in the long run (depending how many games you buy). It all depends on the consumer.

For me, I paid almost $2000 CDN for my PC, and it still kills games at 1920x1200 2 years later. It all depends on what you want from the system.

As to that $600 computer, you could expect to play a fair few games at much higher resolutions and settings than console games. Like I said, it all depends on what you're after.

Yeah I did a pretty straight build. I got shafted on the video card due to some budget funds because I didn't wanna go crazy with it. But AMD Phenom XII 550 Dual core 3.11Ghz, ATI Visiontek 4850 512, Nice asus mobo. 4 gigs DDR3

Ok time for some math. Billy bought a playstation 3 for 600 USD. Billy saw the promotion at whatever store where if you trade it in you get a $100 off this new PS3 So Billy took his old PS3 to the store and they gave him a $100 bux for it causing him to spend $200 dollars on his new PS3. So billy spent $700 USD for 1 PS3

Actually, at this point in time a $600 PC can run games at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080, which are quite high resolutions. The reason being is that we've hit a point where technology is advancing much faster than the games require (causing more and more drops in price). A lower-end card can still perform well even in modern games.

Yup, i'm not surprised it is for a lot of people. It was for me; when I initially built mine, but it pays off when I've bought numerous new games for much lower than retail (often I get games for $5-10 dollars in sales).

Arguments like this are just hilarious, its sort of saying a 5 year old kid could certainly land punches on a 25 yr old professional boxer who are all tied up.

That's not really a great deal for a lot of people. First, you have to be pass whether you can get the card or not (you may not be eligible or meet requirements i.e. credit rating may be low or completely shot), and you may also be too young or not have a regular enough income. Way too many variables.

it's the same thing that happens with PC hardware rebates/deals, you have to get something like a credit card to get money back

Say what? They just send you a cheque in the mail most times. That's all i've ever gotten.

Not really, on top of the fact that a gaming PC can do 5000 things the PS3 can not and everything it can do better, for how much more you pay, you can embarrass the best PS3 games graphically.

before the graphics card update(technically still does), my pc cost less than a ps3 when i bought it in 2008, and could easily outperform a ps3.

[QUOTE="Animal-Mother"][QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"] hmm, no that's not what we were talking about... we were talking about rebates/deals that you get if you "shop smart" and since when was there a 2nd PS3 lol

KevinButlerVP

You did know about gamestops trade in offer right. Your speaking wind of it right now. When the slim came out they were offering a 100 dollar credit to trade in your old Ps3 for the slim. exactly what you stated.

I was actually just thinking the same thing, Uncharted 2 running on a $300 PS3 looks much better than Crysis running on a $300 PCKevinButlerVP
So you play PS3s and PCs without TVs or Monitors?

We usually don't include them in the prices of the system.

I agree bang for buck without a doubt. $300 gets you uc2 type grphics. PC really can't compete with that. No matter what anyone tries to tell you. At the end of the day the PS3 is still inferior. Consoles are the fast food of gaming. While a PC is a 4 star restaurant. You get what you pay for.

That's like saying a DS has the best graphics experience around because you can't buy a PS3 for $100 that fits in your pocket.

smart shopper? you mean if you get it at the right time when it's going on... anyways the point is a $300 PS3 has better graphics than a $300 PC

See this is where I step in? I agree PC crushes PS3, but how much did you just pay for your video card?

I do not recall. Must be alzheimer's. :D

*cough* $509.99 *cough* :P

PC will always beat PS3 in terms of Graphics. But the cost of a decent PC part like a video card costs as much as the PS3NerubianWeaver
A 5770 1GB which can play Crysis on Very High, is only $150. Though a GPU can cost a lot it doesn't have to.
