using GS until youtube has it.

EDIT: posted youtube link. cannot embed for some reason. here's a story though

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/421830/batman-arkham-origins-multiplayer-detailed-trailer-released/

Arkham Origins' multiplayer is being developed independently of the single-player by London-based studio Splash Damage, which has previously developed Enemy Territories: Quake Wars and, more recently, class-based shooter Brink.

"We were all very passionate about the fact that this shouldn't be a "me too" mode or a tacked-on mode," Splash Damage's creative director Alastair Cornish told OXM, which has written up anextensive hands-on preview. "It had to be distinct, it had to be uniquely Arkham, and it had to feel like a natural growth of the single player experience."

The multiplayer is being billed as an evolution of the Predator Challenges featured in the previous games, with players suiting up as Batman and Robin to partake in a three-way battle with members of Bane and Joker's gangs.

"I almost think of it as like the challenge rooms: if you liked some aspect, you can come on and extend your experience, and multiplayer - particularly one based on the invisible predator experience - feels like that natural extension. It feels like, "Ok, I want to challenge myself against the best AI in the world - other players - who are unpredictable as all hell and can work together and use their ingenuity," explained Cornish.

Criminals are lithe, capable of performing evasive rolls and vaulting over cover, and they also pack guns. By killing members of the opposing gang, players can prevent reinforcements from joining the fray, leaving them free to take out remaining foes.

The Dark Knight and Boy Wonder, meanwhile, can pick off enemies from the shadows, with each successful strike awarding players more juice for their shared "intimidation" meter. Once this meter is filled, the heroes win. During the battle Alfred can highlight high-priority targets for Batman and Robin to focus on for extra meter juice and points.

Death decreases a hero's meter and score, and should they fall to the last member of a gang, the entire opposing team will be revived.

Speaking on the inclusion of Robin, who it is believed won't be part of the story campaign, Cornish said: "It's best to think of it as being in the same broad fictional window, if that makes sense. So it's not following on or tied to the single player story, and one of the most noticeable things there is the inclusion of Robin.

"However it is still in the Arkhamverse, obviously, and it is in that same time frame, so it's still the kind of rough, younger Batman, but it has allowed us to bring in Robin because we just wanted that experience of hunting online as a team - the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin."

The single multiplayer map shown thus far is Blackgate Prison, and before each match begins players play an "opt-in/opt-out roulette wheel" to decide who plays as Batman and who's Robin. Gang members will be able to customise their loadouts and their appearance, which can grant bonuses and further tactical opportunities.

Goons also have their own version of Detective Vision called 'Enhanced Vision', which allows them to spot Batman and Robin as well as members of the opposing gang. The ability runs off batteries and is subject to a recharge time.

Control points are dotted around the map and are important since they reduce the number of gang reinforcements entering battle. Batman and Robin can use scramblers to negate control points, but enemies can risk exposing themselves to the heroes to repair the points.

In combat, Batman has access to a wide range of gadgets including explosive gels, smoke bombs, normal batarangs and explosive batarangs.

"Those are just a few of the gadgets that Batman has," says Cornish, "but he's got something for every occasion really, which is a sort of Batman MO. No Bat shark-repellent pellets though!"

Robin is able to use the same gadgets, but also has a few of his own unique skills, including a zip kick, a damage-absorbing shield and his trademark staff.

During multiplayer battles Joker and Bane may also make an appearance: "The way it works is that there's an entry point which your villain demands that you secure for him so that he can safely enter the map," says Cornish.

"There's a notice period before that entry point becomes active, and the losing team actually get a slight bit of extra notice, and depending on how badly they're doing they get more and more notice. There's also a slight catch-up mechanic there."

So, it's only going to be fun if you're playing with Batman, Joker, etc.

Another single player game getting a tacked on multi...

ShepardCommandr

I would absolutley prefer any dvelopment time spent on the game went straight to making the single-player better, but it's something the evil publishers want to put in everything. As long as the impact on the single-player isn't significant, I have to give this a "meh".

I mgiht even try it, but obviously, it's the single-player that is a draw for this franchise. They better not f' it up.

Doesn't seem to be that way. The multiplayer is made by a different team entirely: Splash Damage

What I'm sceptical about is that this isn't being made by Rocksteady.

I was at first but once I saw footage from E3 I stopped being skeptical; They handled the Wii U port of Arkham City and everyone on the team love the Batman comics and they don't want to ruin it so I think it will be good.

So you can be Batman, Robin, Bane, Joker or one of those goons? Seems kinda lame.

Competitive multiplayer could've been godlike if they just made 1v1 stuff and you could choose a hero/villian. Could've had say Batman, Robin, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Joker, Clayface, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Hush and they would all play extremely differently.

And will the game have co op?

If they replace challenge mode with this I'll be extremely disappointed. Challenge mode and the riddler puzzles were two of the main reasons I consider Batman Arkham City the best game of the generation hands down.

Well. If it´s different enough from all other multiplayers, then why not. I will try it. I hope they will come up with some original ideas.

TLOU pleasantly surprised me with it's MP quality so I'm not gonna be so pessimistic this time around, could be good.

I remember playing DC Universe 4 vs 4 match ups, they were the best part of the game for me and worked really well, hope it's something like that.

Yeah it looks sure looks like they are keeping everything intact that made the previous Batman games great. But I can't help but be skeptical about a team that has made nothing before. Except a port.

I was skeptical about Rocksteady at first too. I think it's better to be skeptical and be positively surprised than be open for everything and disappointed.

I think the most important thing from that link is that the multiplayer is being developed by Splash Damage, the guys behind the god awful Brink. :? Well, this game was a sure 9.0 game. Just copy paste the previous games, add some new villains, and a half decent story...thats all they had to do. But they went and got way too greedy. Even if the SP is good, the MP is gonna drag it down.

Another single player game getting a tacked on multi...

ShepardCommandr

Yeah, sometimes a single player game needs to just be single player and thats it.

Im all for good multiplayer when the game is based around that concept from the ground up, but just throwing in the kitchen sink is something I hate because it takes manpower, time, money, energy and ideas away from making the single player experince better.

Im not saying this new batman will suck but I pretty much guarntee it will not exceed the other 2 games in terms of quality now that I see they are doing this. It will be good, but it will be less than the other 2 by rocksteady.

Right behind RTCW :P But yeah, W:ET is really, really good. I don't doubt these guys. Also Brink's problems were technical issues and bugs moreso than gameplay issues. If they have enough time to iron things out I'm sure this has the potential to be great !

You're welcome :P

I personally expected better things from them after what we saw in ET. Quake Wars and Brink weren't really my taste either. But like I said in reply to freedom: the problems in Brink were technical and not really gameplay related. With enough time and polish this could be great :)

i believe the single player will be fine. and who knows it might even be fun? i remember saying the same thing about Uncharted 2 AND Assasin's Creed.

Uncharted 2 is fine.

TBH, I haven't played it myself. It looked like fun but it was just held down by bugs and technical issues from what I heard. By the time these were fixed, there were already almost no players left.

What was wrong with the gameplay ?

Multiplayer is being developed by a different team, so the main team is working entirely on the singleplayer.

Seeing how this is developed by a completely separate developer, I'm not sure why people are complaining about this being tacked on. WB Montreal seems to have a solid grasp on the formula RS presented in the previous games and this is looking like it could turn out being a entertaining mp mode. Kinda like mp in AC or Bioshock 2. Can't wait to try this out in the fall and TSHBO.
