XMNR: EA and DICE finally began pulling back the curtain on Battlefield 3 this week and even more details concerning the multiplayer on the PS3 and Xbox 360 have just come out.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, painted the first dreary picture of a battle being waged in recent memory, with the White House itself being the nerve center of an enemy occupation. Upcoming games like Homefront, which depicts a Korean invasion Red Dawn ****are going there as well. Crysis 2, albeit a much more fictionalized alien invasion will feature a war torn New York City. It's not much of a stretch to figure that DICE would bring the fight to US as well

[QUOTE="hellnojustno"]http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/frontlinesfuelofwar/index.html Frontlines: Fuel of War That game is 50 players online and released by fairly unknown developer. IM calling bs.

This. Pretty sure consoles are more than capable of supporting 64 players even with destruction, the only reason it may not is for the PC fanboys to feel special

Except that Frontlines looked awful and played awful. It was completely different.

Good reasoning. A dev holds out just to appease PC gamers. Yeah...no. BTW do you know how terrible Frontlines looks? Do you know how terrible it plays? That is all.

MAG had 256 and Resistance had 64. So consoles can definetly handle a lot of players online. Maybee DICE feels 24 is the right amount for consoles

It's because of bandwith caps instilled by Sony and MS. 24 players is the absolute max they can have with all the Frostbite features and whatnot. Frontlines has none of that.

What's with every war based game taking place in the US? I guess WiC must feel like a trend setter at this point.

I can't wait for the next round of consoles simply because I'm sick of pc games being downsized because of their limitations. Game design and ambition took a huge step backwards with this gen. Just try to imagine Arma 2 on consoles and you see what it's such a big deal for these types of games to go multiplatform. Hardware is so cheap right now I know that the big 3 could make an affordable yet powerful console. I guess MS and Sony just need to make back all the billions they lost when they launched. As far as I know they are still in the hole. The original Xbox lost MS 4 billion bucks so I guess they learned their lesson on console longevity.

That's very ignorant^ and you wonder why majority of PC gamers hate console gamers.

The solution is easy:

Consoles need dedicated servers if they are to match the player limit in the PC version.

It remains to be seen if Sony or MS would allow something like that.

I think the maps will be scaled like in BF2. Imaginary "artillery will kill everything" lines do a lot.

Crysis' destruction was actually a disappointment to me. Try using C4 on anything more substantial than sheet metal or palm trees - it does about as much damage as, say, harsh language. You can knock down a guard tower with a rocket launcher, but it won't make a dent in a concrete wall.

But then the other console hardware comes into play. 50 players is a lot more work for the hardware than 24 is. Im sure that there is a point in between that would be fine, but for consoles to reach the 50+ player mark then the game would need to be downgraded graphically which is something most developers wont want to do.

They could if they had wanted to, the engine has full support of fracture meshes and the such, they didn't integrate it most likely due to performance constraints. But for the destruction it does use it more realistically than bad company 2.

People are already complaining about the maximum players count. I can see in the future compromises being made if the hate gets to a certain degree. While i don't like any recent battlefield games, i would love for the PC to get some love after all these years.

XboximusPrime

What in that article was there to whine about?

All I read that even mentioned the PC was:

"Console gamers were disappointed to learn that while the PC version of Battlefield 3 supports 64 players, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will only support 24 players according to details revealed from retail sites."

and:

"While definitely not official, DICE's Johan Andersson recommends a Window 7 PC with a 64-bit processor and a video card that supports DX11. However, the Frostbite 2.0 engine is being built to scale based on the hardware."

If we stopped complaining about PC gaming series being ruined by consoles time and time again, Battlefield 3 would have been 24/32 players for us, too. It's easy to sit there and tell us stop complaining when your a part of the lowest common denominator. You're not the one who had to watch classic PC games like Ghost Recon, Rainbow 6, Deus Ex, Battlefield (between 2-3) etc become simplified, less ambitious and regressive sequels of a game they were supposed to be improving on.

Battlefield 3 PC is good for gaming. PC gamers not willing to see our beloved series go down without a fight is good for gaming. Our attitude towards this has helped the likes of BF3 and Homefront, hell even Black Ops become significantly better games on PC than they would have otherwise.

Thanks to adding onto my point.

look, if PC gamers would stop complaining about their game being downsized because of the mean ol consoles, then i wouldnt have reason to bring it up.

Our attitude towards this has helped the likes of BF3 and Homefront, hell even Black Ops become significantly better games on PC than they would have otherwise.

you mean rainbow 6 which is arguably better and more popular since it was supposedly consolized?

Yes I mean R6. Don't tell me it was "supposedly" consoled. It's ****ing heart was ripped out, stomped on, and then set on fire.

And what has popularity got to do with anything? Is CoD really the best MP experience on consoles?, Is Farmville the greatest game in the world?. R6 was a popular, high selling game on PC that's now sold on 3 platforms and has been turned into something accessible for even the biggest gimps out there.

Please, go on steam, at least play R6 3, and try and tell me that the game has changed for the better.
