The people who say the framerate dips aren't an issue, and aren't a big deal in a genre like this

A: Don't play games on PC
B: Don't play games like this on a higher level

I'm not saying Bayonetta 2 becomes unplayable on consoles (lord knows there are plenty of 30 frame games on consoles), but it is significant that this game and all of Platinum's games don't run 60 frames locked. For a genre like this where you do want the precision, where frame data does matter, where it is important to make every frame count for your big combo strings, and for how fluid you want it all to feel, it is significant that Platinum games can't hit 60 frames locked.

"The whole Nintendo can do it" thing makes no fucking sense in this debate as nothing they make is a 1:1 comparison to what Platinum does. Platinum has more of a spectacle going on in their game and all around faster gameplay than any of Nintendo's action or platformer games.

Regardless of hardware or Platinum Games themselves they do deserve criticism for not being able to get 60 frames locked.

Hard for me to notice the framerate drops because of the Youtube.

I'm not sure if this is the final build. It's due to be out in Japan on Saturday and it doesn't come out everywhere else until next month. I doubt Digital Foundry got a review copy this early.

You've clearly never seen a PS2 game before.

Indeed. Why do you have to insult PS2 games? Some of them look great!

...on a CRT.

I would rather they delay it until it is 60 fps.

This is Platinum Games. If they managed to free enough resources to bump it up to 60fps locked, they would probably use that extra juice to throw in 10 Godzilla sized monsters to fight you in the middle of a city-sized tornado instead :P

Haha true.

And to the rest of the people in this thread, lets wait for it to actually release and see how much the framerate matters. In SSB4, you basically need a solid framerate the entire time. Shooters and Fighting games tend to need this. In the case of a beat em up, the framerate is mostly important when you are input controls against NPCs, when it kicks into a a cut scene where they beat the crap out of someone for a minute, it is less important.

Boy, I do not like the new Bayonetta look... Looks like the original character's mother... The clips we saw there also don't strike me as exciting as the first game, which I enjoyed more than any other 3rd person beat-em-up game I can recall at this moment.

What? The Digital Foundry article even said the game has crazier scenarios than anything in the first game. Maybe you need to look at more footage before making a knee jerk conclusion.

Nintendo fanboys accepting low fps as they knock down fps on PC, Xbox and Playstation games.
You need a solid fps for a Hack n Slash game.
The game looks terrible and is an cartoon cheese fest... poor utilisation of old tech.

Wii U hardware is weak, hence why a lot of developers and games are not coming out for it, even a common game like COD is not on it.
Even if it ran at 1fps, blind fanboys will be behind it all the way.

Hopefully, Platinum Games will make a proper next gen game.

Heh, well I didn't make a full conclusion, just that the clips didn't strike me as exciting as the first game. I even said specifically clips, not "All of Bayonetta 2 looks less exciting. All of it." I'm well within my reasonable rights to make a conclusion regarding the short clips I saw and how I feel about them relative to my experience the first time around.

Bayonetta 2 exists because Nintendo stepped in and offered to help Platinum develop it... We should be thankful we're getting it at all. And they're developing Scalebound for XB1 anyway, and Metal Gear Rising 2 is a distinct possibility.

The framerate not being a constant 60 FPS is a disappointment. Metal Gear Rising on PC spoiled me in this regard; I don't know how I managed to play the PS3 version. But this doesn't mean the game is going to be bad.

Pretty sure that many PC games have their fair share of framrate drops.

The PS4 and Xbox One are far better off than Wii U. It's a repackaged Xbox 360/seventh gen console as far as I'm concerned.

OP, did you link the right video?

The first minute, when fighting that big enemy, it never dropped below 30.

The second segment, where she ran around the plaza as a jaguar (or whatever) jumped in that water "portal" and fought enemies, it dipped to 34.

The following segment, where they showed the "finishers" (I forget what they're called), it dropped to 40.

And in the final piece, it hit 26 and then the video stopped.

Now, I'm not a huge Bayonetta fan so I have no reason to defend it, but these were all quick dips that lasted a second or two. I'd average the frame rate at 45fps (which, to me might as well be 30. I don't think that smoothness hits until 60fps). It's not the catastrophe some people may be making it out to be. And PS2 graphics?!? Even for exaggeration that's too much. C'mon, people.

Yeah but you won't notice that while playing. As long as the framerate stay over 35 fps, it will still appear smooth to you. That's what I'm trying to tell people. Tomb Raider framerate on PS4 can go all over the place too.

You start noticing dips when the framerate hits in the 20ish and lower.

I'm not really defending Bayonetta btw. It's just people care too much about technical aspects that they wouldn't notice by themselves anyway. :/

I have no problem with people complaining about the frame rate to developers. For the type of game Bayonetta is, the developer should strive for better performance. If it was a slow paced game, I wouldn't give 2 cents what frame rate was in the game. Also Platinum Games have a history with their games not having the best of frame rates, they should settle for 30 FPS if they cant properly do 60 FPS.

There's a reason PS2 games ported to PS3 all ran at 60fps: more power = better performance.

????

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is 30 fps on PS3

Final Fantasy X/X-II Remaster is 30 fps om PS3

Silent Hill HD Collection dips below 30fps on PS3

The Last of US Remastered on PS4 had an option to lock at 30fps to smooth out some shadows and effects and its not even locked at 60fps either.

By your elitist, anti-Nintendo standards, they are making it. It's called Scalebound (XBONE exclusive).

Will me and others on the site will likely repaort back how the game plays in a month and a bit :P

A shame it can not hold a constant 60, in this kind of game it does make a difference, so lets see. I am kind of hopeful that it is atlest pleayable.

Because as far as I know Bayonetta 2 is on a console and not a PC where there is no resolution cap and post processing effects can be forced through video card drivers/edit tools whatever.

And regardless of any of that, DMC4 is a closed, corridor filled game full of backtracking and forced camera angles. Its much simpler in scope.

Didn't you know? according to cows, everything that is not on a Sony console looks like a game from an old Sony console, everything that it is Sony exclusive is a God sent gift far beyond what even the PC can do (Infamous SS, Uncharted 2, Last of Us, Killzone, etc.)

Maybe you like the art more, which means nothing really, but Bayonetta 2 it factually a technically more advanced game that runs in a newer engine on a console that supports more modern shaders and optimization tools that the PS360 didn't back then (and still don't in some cases).

Pretty sure that many PC games have their fair share of framrate drops.

due to technical issues that come with that game? sure.

Due to my actual hardware and not being able to adjust the options to make it consistent? No

Especially in comparable genres because I can run DmC, DMC4, and Revengeance at 60 frames from start to finish no dips. Regardless a PC game dips rarely here and there, this is doing it in moment to moment gameplay.

It's made by PlatinumGames so no one should be surprised. None of their games have hit a steady 60fps and even then, don't care, the game will run fine just like the others did.

Touche. But if I played MOBA games and there are sudden framerate drops in teamfights, is it the server's problem or my PC unable to keep up with it?

Server usually, it's more because of your connection than the game and hardware. At least any time Dota 2 dips for me, it's usually when there is mad lag in the match.
