[QUOTE="Metalscarz"]Me three. This gen is by far the biggest PC lopsided gen since I started on the NES. The PC has the best multiplats, and most exclusives. dc337

What is the big pc exclusive this year? Starcraft? It doesn't even come out until winter. Diablo 3 doesn't even have a release date. If you don't like MMOs or RTS the pc exclusives this year are pretty lackluster. Adrian's list of 2010 pc games contains games that were on his 2009 list. It's really a list of pc games that are in development and many of them are multiplat.

why does a platform need a "big exclusive"? no one has every explained to me as to why that is important.

[QUOTE="devious742"]cant the same be said about console gaming..what if you dont like fps/tps and jrpg games... the list will be lackluster..what is the 360 for example have in store..another sequel to halo, gears, etc

dc337

The consoles are getting a lot more big budget exclusives that are dispersed throughout the year. A lot of the interesting pc exclusives are indy games that can be played on any computer. You're just not seeing exclusives like Heavy Rain or Alan Wake on the pc these days.

The pc is getting a lot more AA/AAA titles that are dispersed throughout the year. A lot of the interesting console exclusives are 1st party games . You're just not seeing exclusives like Stalker,Dow2. Cryostasis, The Void, or Civ4/5 on the consoles these days.

"PCs are better than consoles."

"Consoles are better than PCs."

Why does it feel like we're trying to debate opinion and preference?

[QUOTE="Snagal123"]

[QUOTE="RPG-explorer"]I'll never get the PC gaming thing, i've never played a PC game and i never had the urge to, consoles were always easier to playand control and in my opinion they been keeping up graphically just fine. So this argument about PC gaming versus console gaming i know will never end but in my opinion it shouldn't even exist, consoles are just better, easier to control, easier to hook up to a TV and faster to load and play, it's a no brainer as far as i can see.RPG-explorer

Can i just ask, if uve never played a PC game like you state, how do you know consoles are easier to play and control. I mean if you haven't experienced both you can't make such a comparision can you?

My brother in law was a die hard PC gamer and i used to watch him play games like Heroes of Might & Magic, Baldurs Gate, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights, even some Baseball and Football games. Then guess what in 2001 he came over my house while i was playing NFl Fever 2001 on the original Xbox so i let him try it and he commented to me on how nice the graphics were and how much easier it was to control than the keyboard, mouse combo of his PC games, and he went out the very next day and bought himself an Xbox, and he hasn't played PC games since. He currently owns an Xbox 360 with 65 games and he doesn't miss PC gaming in the least, and he was an original PC gamer from the old 800 and Amiga days. I never needed to try his games, i saw them and had no urge to play them , but yet when he saw my football game he had to play it and then run out and buy the system right away. So i think that says it all...Once PC guys play on consoles PC never stays there preference,if it ever was to begin with.

I had a Commodore Amiga back in the day, moved into PC gaming and in 2002 I bought an Xbox. My PC wasn't that great at the time and I wanted to try console gaming. The Xbox was my 1st and only console. In 2007 I built a brand new gaming rig and I have no desire to buy a console again. Consoles will never have games with the scope, complexity and freeform gameplay that the PC has to offer. I'll never be able to play games like Arma 2, Stalker or the original Crysis on a console, at least this gen. For me, consoles have NOTHING going for them.

The pc certainly doesn't get the same amount of variety that it used to when it comes to exclusives. It used to get a lot more single player RPGs and shooters that weren't console ports.

If you look at this year's pc pre-order list you'll notice that most of the games are multiplats.

You can pretty much break pc gaming this year into two groups: multiplats and Blizzard games.

dc337

Your posts really crack me up! You always say the same: piracy this, mutiplats and Blizzard that, PC is for casuals and MMORPGs. The PC has more variety that any single console this gen and maybe more so that all this gen consoles combined. And before you say that PC genres are niche genres that no one cares about that's simply not true. Just because most PC games have no marketing that doesn't mean people don't buy them. The PC has plenty of FPS, RPG, simulation games, RTS, point-and-click adventures, puzzle games, MMORPG, casual games. The only genres it seems to lack are fighting, sports and platformers.

I'd rather have LOTS of small nice exclusives than ONE big exclusive that I may or may not like.

Bioshock before the ports Medieval series Most of Battlefield series Arma series Heroes of Might and Magic series Might and Magic series Elder's Scroll series before Oblivion port Rollercoaster Tycoon Sanitarium and loads of other point and clicks. Shattered Horizon Stalker series Crysis Orange Box before the awful ports World of Goo Thief Series Hitman series Deus Ex Red Alert before the awful ports and plenty of other RTS games Countless RPGs which i fail to keep up with. yeah...the PC games library to stoooopidly large, something consolites aren't able to comprehend. oh, i dunno what big means but most of those games are pretty popular in the pc gaming community. anyone, feel free to add to the PC exclusives list

It's sad that to some people every game that isn't shiny button masher full of pretty explosions counts as "shovelware"

By 'big exclusives' I imagine dc337 means something like Halo or God of War; a series massively hyped and marketed, with a huge budget behind it. As far as quality games go the PC can easily be said to the be the strongest platform.

Well its difficult to compare because the gaming community is sufficiently larger now than during the previous, obviously! So still, most of the games I listed were pretty big sellers for their time.

Oh big sellers, indeed, I just don't think the majority are exactly along the lines of what is a massively hyped and marketed game, like what dc337 is suggesting. Not that this is a negative thing at all, greats like Deus Ex were not such a thing, despite being incredible and doing very well.

What? You missed the context I tried to apply. Of course games that game out years ago are not gonna compare to Cod or Halo. The only nearest PC equivalent is CS, which i know is still quite popular. Otherwise, TF2 is also popular and BF2. But, PC games will not match the numbers of halo or cod, why? because the console was specifically design for the masses. There is not doubt that pc gaming is a little be elitist and thus has fewer numbers.

The beauty of it is that none of those series started off big. Almost all of them were made by relatively small devs, and people loved them. Console development costs went way up in the 90's due to cartridges, and many small devs decided to abandon them in favor of the PC. History is just repeating itself. Anyone who doesn't think that console devs can continue just pumping out big budget games like they have been is just kidding themselves. Consider this gen the highest point consoles reach for a while, because I really doubt that come next gen many devs could afford to be exclusive to a console. Even more games than now will become multiplats, and will give no incentive to a consumer to buy any one system based on games alone. In case you're wondering what this means, it means that the console with the best gimmick and lowest price will win the generation like the wii has won this generation. Maybe everyone should start making "console gaming is dying" threads :?

Another point sort of similar, console games tend to have much worse longevity. The Snes has some awesome timeless games but the PC owns in terms of longevity. Another few more games: Dungeon Keeper anyone, or Gangsters, how about Myth...? Out of all the games I can think of from this gen that i'd play again in 10 years time is...Valkria Chronicles, Demons Souls, maybe Warhawk, maybe Halo, thats probably about it. Old games like the ones I listed above still sell. except Gangsters, that didnt go down too well with the casuals.
