I've noticed a lot of ps4 fanboys on here, how is it the superior console besides exclusives?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Both consoles are on par with one and another on everything but games. Playstation 4 has better exclusives and has access to many more games.
The primary purpose of a console should be games. So PS4 is better.
(Hardware wise: the original Xbox One is inferior to the PS4 too)
The only real advantage PS4 has over XB1 now is 1st/2nd party output (although it's not as dire as fanboys make out) & Japanese support (not much MS can do here).
Everything else, the XB1 ecosystem is the better.

^ ^ This.
Also the PS4 UI is more streamlined and better suited to quickly accessing your games and play them.
There's also Share Play that's actually a useful that no other system has.
Because I play video games on my video game console. I don't need a console with a bunch of extra features and services. I just want to play games. I also think the UI is simpler and easier to navigate. Extra services are a plus, but it can't be a bigger selling point than exclusives.
@lilseb93: Extra services/features can definitely be a bigger selling point than exclusives for some people.

Maybe for people who don't have access to any games to begin with.
@netracing:Streaming/playing Movies on Disc why buy a Blu-ray player and Chromecast etc if I can get a console?
@lilseb93: @quadknight: How is the UI simpler? searching on the store is painful, one letter at a time than scrolling to the next, than having to search threw the results?

While true, games and pricing are generally the two biggest factors for most gamers when contemplating the purchase of a console. Both of which Sony has done better this gen.

Forget the store, the store still needs some work.
The system's UI is what I mean. it's quicker, simpler, and more efficient than what's on the Xbone.

Because there's two levels up and down where everything is at. It's easier to access something.
I agree about the store. That's more of a pain. Sometimes it freezes on me too.
From an owner of an Scorpio ed. X, a launchBone, an OG PS4 and a Pro- all currently hooked up and all four on wired connections(launch PS4 and launch XBone in the BR, Pro and X in the LR)...
I like the UI better on the Playstations, apparently this month we see a major change on Xbox so that is only as of this post. PS's seem to DL stuff a touch faster. I don't use my X to play 4K Bluray's, my Samsung 4K player is noticeably better to the naked eye on my Samsung UN65JS9000 so I wouldn't have cared if M$ didn't bother like Sony didn't with the Pro. Other than that, apples and oranges.
@hrt_rulz01: Like the app store differences between Xbox and PS4 is ridiculously huge, Xbox has easily over 100 apps and Xbox one allows indie developers.
@dr_vancouver: Yeah I just got a 3.5gb update ((7 times the normal size) Alpha updates) 2 days ago, All I was told was that there are new features coming soon
@quadknight: Xbox has Shareplay, except it's much, much better for sharing between two people; We share libraries.
I can play any game he owns and vice versa. We can play the same game simultaneously, and we can play MP against each other on that game. He can play one game, while I'm playing another.
He doesn't need Live unlike ps4, and there's no 60 minute session limit like on PS4. There's no geographical limitation like with PS4, and I dont need to be online while he plays, unlike PS4.
Installing games, for example, doesn't take ages on the PS4 unlike on Xbone. Because of the 4k-updates I had to buy an external HDD for the system, because they fill your 1TB quite fast, not the systems fault per se. Xbox now has an UHD player which is really nice to have, it's not the best player, but it gets the job done for me at least, it doesn't always recognize the disc though. I actually thought my Last Jedi UHD was broken somehow until I tried the regular blu-ray, which somehow corrected the situation for the UHD disc also :P The UI is also jankier/laggy even on the Xbox One X.
I don't mind the Xbox ui works well enough easy access to everything I need. I suppose the ps ui has everything organized better.
I do think the Xbox right now is overall better than the PS4 BUT games are vital to a game's console, and I'm ok with turning on my PS4 a few times a year to play the occasional exclusive. But for someone who owns only one console it's understandable why PS4 is the system of choice.
Because OG PS4 still plays mutiplat games better then Xbox S............And these base machines make up the vast majority of the sales.
Exclusives have been and always will be the sole selling point for any console, at least to me. If you want something that functions as a home theater replacement or a poor man's PC that's fine. But consoles will always serve as side platforms to my PC, and exclusives will always be what drives my purchase of them. I've never felt an Xbox console has had an exclusive I've cared about and that's especially apparent to me this generation.
@Gamerno6666: @tgob89: Because consoles have replaced VCR's
Netflix exists! As well as dozens of other paid and or free streaming movie services on the web.
I haven't bought a physical based disk for a movie...in over 10 years easy.
So much for that argument.
I buy game consoles to, who would imagine, play video games.
Next?
Besides 3, maybe 4 exclusives on PS4...it isn't. As always, it's personal opinion. I prefer the controllers (poor battery life, underused trackpad and speaker, irritating light, button layout on ds4), UI ( Customisable and more features) Shareplay on Xbox ( 60 mins max, both need plus account, can only play game when friend is online on PS4), media (Much more choice of media players, Kodi, UHD drive, Dolby Atmos) BC ( No contest), gamepass (No contest), Better versions of 3rd party games and many more arguable points such as better online experience (Easier to find groups) aesthetics (Slim model was fine, Pro looks awful).
Genuinely can't think of anything that is better on PS4 apart from exclusives.
@tgob89: I buy consoles to play games too. But if a console has the added bonus of being able to play true 4k movies, as well as compressed 4k streamed media I won't complain.
If it has the added ability to run Kodi, cutting the need for cable subscriptions, I won't complain either.
@tgob89:Yeah but why buy a console and a chromecast when I can just buy a console? VCR's did more than just play movies they allowed us to watch tv shows when TV's didn't have tuners or RCA inputs back in the day. I'm not also going to sit at my computer to watch a movie when I could sit some where more comfy like on the couch in front of my TV.
@Gamerno6666: Is your pc hooked up to your TV?
It's not better than X1X in every regard especially if you did include the exclusives since they really are a pile of movie game and wii-a-moo cow manure. Yuck. :P

If you really care about movies that much...
Ever herd of Streaming sticks?
yeah cheaper and 100X better for movie purposes if that's what you want..
Anything else?
Here's what I'll say to this. If you have a capable PC, then there is no reason to owning an Xbox One/X other then to just play Xbox One exclusive games that are NOT on PC already such as Master Chief Collection, Rare Replay, Sunset Overdrive, and a few more that you can't play on PC. Exclusive games is and will always be the number one reasons to buy that console for, this is not up for debate! PS4 has lots of variety of exclusive games over Xbox One, it's why PS4 is the top console as of now, but if you want my honest opinion between Xbox One & PS4, I find the eco-system to be the very best on Xbox One platform, that's the only slight advantage it has over the PS4, the eco-system is just so much better on Xbox One. But the fact still remains, PS4 is the overall best console I enjoy this gen so far and to me, PC>PS4 is the best combo and playing MS games on PC is just a nice bonus so kudos to MS for sharing there exclusive games on PC :)
I also like to add that Nintendo Switch exclusive games is the soul reason buying a Nintendo console, there exclusive games are fun to play but that's about it for the Switch alone.
Of cause lems care about all the streaming and tv stuff. Why else would MS announced a console with tv tv tv tv, nfl nfl and cod in mind. Lol

You don't need PS+ to do share play. Sharing game libraries also exists on PS4 and even existed on the PS3.
You don't know what you're talking about. PS4 Share Play allows people to come into any game I'm playing and take over, Xbox has nothing similar. Please educate yourself about Share Play before you reply again, you're embarrassing yourself because you don't know what PS Share Play is.
I bought the PS4 because it seemed like the natural evolution of the 360 and the opposite of the PS3. Powerful yet easy to dev for hardware (which translates in lots of dev support and superior multiplatform games), no mandatory motion controllers at launch, lots of indie support, VR on the way, etc.
The exclusives were a good surprise and a fantastic bonus, so it was a win win decision for me. Amazing console, and probably my favourite generation in over 30 years as a gamer.
