You clearly ignored Irrational Games. SS2 and Bioshock are great. Review say that Bio2 is better than the first gameplay and narrative wise.I never knew a FPS could have a good plot and characters.

Only BioShock deserves a mention when it comes to SP FPS games this generationGamingcucumberNo, not when gameplay is also put into the equation. (Im not saying Bios is bad)

(Im not saying Bios is bad) Considering it's basically System Shock 2 with a paintjob and somewhat mainstreamed I would have to argue that your opinion is wrong, nevertheless it's yours. A game practically free of bugs and had a story that without spoiling it for those who haven't played made an impact. It didn't drag and felt like work and it didn't have the frustration and buggs you'd get from STALKER for instance.
[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"][QUOTE="WAIW"] Why?WAIW-poor gunplay -Nathan Hale is easily the lamest protagonist of all time -rather generic game design overall from top to bottom. From gunplay, to its pacing, to the level design, to the narrative -Horrible boss fights The entire series has been saved entirely by Multiplayer for me. From a SP standpoint so many shooters do a superior job overall. Those are all the reasons I didn't really like Bioshock that much. Aside from the multiplayer, of course.
Generic game design?

Generic game design?
Only knock I can say about Bioshock is the gunplay felt weak and the game got repetitive. Amazing game though, the twist at the end... I never saw it coming!Out of all the FPSs I played this gen, the only ones with singleplayer modes I thought were even good were Metroid Prime 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Cryostasis, Crysis, Killzone 2, and BioShock. Out of those, Cryostasis is the only one with a story that was even slightly enjoyable. So, Cryostasis.

Generic game design?
Gunplay and level design were quite generic, yes. The pacing was good and the narrative was OK for most of the game, though.i agree, Biohock. In my opinion it has the best plot of any game I've played in general. Plus its got an awesome, well delivered twist.
Half-Life for the plot, characters, atmosphere and basically everything.
Modern Warfare series for the tenseness of the campaign. It's really like a blockbuster military action thriller.
Not sure what you count as this gen but I say either FEAR (2005 wasn't it?),COD4 or Crysis. I did like Stalker however I got a bit bored with it after I finished it and couldn't really be bothered playing it again.
