GTAIV, followed very closely by Vice City and then Ballad of Gay Tony.

Grand Theft Auto IV
I was never really a fan of the series before it but they changed so much, made so many improvements. It's my personal game of the gen and outside of League of Legends, the game I've invested the most amount of time in
[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"][QUOTE="Zeviander"] I was talking about overall tone, including the game world. But I just started doing work for a suit who is connected with a particular person who betrayed me.freedomfreakThe game world in each of the GTAs has always been a parody of American culture. I wouldn't call Liberty City dark and gritty, but the story of IV certainly tilts towards that point near the end. A lot of it has to do with Niko being the darkest character the franchise has ever seen. Finding out about his background is enough.
I always found him kind of dull TBH, most of that had to do with the fact that he was voiced by a guy doing a horrible russian accent. It made everything he said sound a bit weird, and I kind of lost interest in him. There were parts of Niko I liked but overall he was nowhere near as compelling as other GTA stars

Amen. I prefer San Andreas overall as a game but Vercetti was the best leading role
Grand Theft Auto 3 was the most influential, but Vice City was better than it in every way. I loved the protagonist, the digitized 80's was awesome as well.
San Andreas pushed the boundries of the sandbox. True freedom
IV demolished everything in terms of attention to detail and charectar development though. I loved hanging out with Niko and his friends (and to people saying his accent is overdone, one of my friends sounds just like him except with a deeper voice.
I'm lost on what my fav is. GTA3 isn't it though

It's not so much the accent as the way he says things, there are 2 russian guys in my college class and they sound similar accent wise but how they say things in english is way different. Niko has too good a grasp on english for a guy who spent most of his life in a country that doesn't speak it natively.
Vice city, no question. The VRock radio station in that game is actually what got me interested in music.
My personal choice is San Andreas.
Still, Vice City trump 'em all for setting and music.
Though i can't ignore those good ol' time in the countryside listening to K-rose, or strolling through the desert with a BF Injection with some K-DST.
I liked Vice City most, thus far. Though I have a feeling in about half a year I'll be singing a different tune.
SA was bad and you should feel bad.
Gangster wannabes.
3 was the real revolution.

How is SA gangster wannabe?
Seriously I'd like to know.
As a game SA is the better GTA however Vice City is my personal favorite
What ruined SA for me was the "gangsta" storyline bullsh1t
GTA IV, easily. It has the best driving and shooting mechanics by far (at least compared to the previous GTAs) and the storytelling is excellent. It had brilliant atmosphere, brilliant characters, some great missions, and it cut a lot of the fat from San Andreas. It wasn't perfect, but it was proof that Rockstar was willing to change.
San Andreas is my favourite world though. I loved the idea of three different cities. And I loved the overall feel of Vice City, partly because the map was small enough to memorise.
Despite all that though, GTA 3 is by far the most important, even if it hasn't aged well at all. It single-handedly revolutionised the sandbox genre.
Just as 3 and the others were mafioso wannabe, or idk, immigrant criminal wannabe? what kind of BS statement is that. OT : Easy, GTA SA. Followed by VC, followed by IVSA was bad and you should feel bad.

How I'd rank the GTAs, and what I played them on.
1. GTA 3 - PS2 - I liked the Italian mob, and other gangs. I thought the Easter Eggs, and secrets were the best of the series in this game.
2. Vice City - PS2 - I liked the Scarface, and Carlito's Way references. I also liked property buying.
3. GTA IV - Xbox 360 - I liked the improved graphics; that is what puts it ahead of SA for me.
4. GTA San Andreas - Xbox - Graphics do not hold up well. Boring country side.
A case could be made GTA IV is the "best" GTA because the graphics are better than anything else in the series.

This, down to a tee!
My feelings exactly.
Much as I like the setting of San Andreas, the gameplay was seriously rough. The turf war stuff got really fvcking tedious after the first couple times.

I'm guessing he thinks rap music is idiotic and doesn't like the African American culture shown in SA.
Anyway, what does Eddie know about whats gangster?

He's not even trying to fit in because he resents it.
GTA IV is the best by a considerable margin, though I probably enjoyed playing Vice City more...if that makes any sense.
GTA: San Andreas is the best by a long shot, the absolute height GTA has achieved. I also loved the beginning of its story, but man did it went downhill after a few hours. Besides those few hours, has the worst story out of all GTA games.
GTA: Vice City has the best story and the best character (Tommy).GTA IV was more of a follow up to GTA III, devolving everything San Andreas brought forth. It's very limited, boring compared to San Andreas.
GTA V is the one that's more of a follow up to San Andreas. That's the one that is going to surpass everything San Andreas did.

If you haven't, try playing it on the PC with mods, like its meant to be played these days. Playing these GTA III era games with a gamepad is ridiculously clunky.
[QUOTE="topgeareasy"]Because it's a Grand Theft Auto game? :|why is 4 on the poll it was terrible
Michael0134567
so is GTA 2
GTA 1
GTA portables
san andreas for almost everything, GTA 4 for combat/car mechanics, etc
wis3boi
I agree, although it's honestly a toss up between GTA 4 and SA since both can be number 1.
I agree with all this. San Andreas forever!GTA: San Andreas is the best by a long shot, the absolute height GTA has achieved. I also loved the beginning of its story, but man did it went downhill after a few hours. Besides those few hours, has the worst story out of all GTA games.
