[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]you're just racistSA was bad and you should feel bad.
Gangster wannabes.

I didn't want to sound like that guy who calls everyone racist but it sounds like that's the case here

Much as I like the setting of San Andreas, the gameplay was seriously rough. The turf war stuff got really fvcking tedious after the first couple times.

If you haven't, try playing it on the PC with mods, like its meant to be played these days. Playing these GTA III era games with a gamepad is ridiculously clunky.
I did play the PC version, but if there were any mods that made the gameplay better I didn't hear of them.
I know I'm probably the only person on the planet that thinks this, but I find Chinatown Wars to be the best GTA yet released on any platform.

I came here to say this :o
Vice City was by far the most complete game. Sure San Andreas bought some cool things but it just wasnt as well put together imo. Also I found the latest GTA to be such a dissapointment. It wasn't really as fun, or funny. Online was OK at times but nothing amazing.
[QUOTE="topgeareasy"][QUOTE="Michael0134567"] Because it's a Grand Theft Auto game? :|Michael0134567
so is GTA 2
GTA 1
GTA portables
It says "other" in the poll. Too lazy to look?so 4 could be other and list the good games first
My favorte has been IV, I think that while it doesn't try for the sheer wackiness of SA or nostalgia of Vice City, it succeeds because it simply focuses on being good. The mechanics for driving, shooting and combat are better then ever before (and still hold up, if a bit clumsily), the world is just truly alive (where the cities before now feel like tiny theme parks without much life in comparison), and the writing gets the work it deserves with more consistency between characters and a more believable tale that doesn't eschew the occasional crazy set piece.
I love all the GTA games though, I got 100% in Vice City, San Andreas and IV way back when.
Well San Andreas is the overall better game, but I love Vice City. I felt they got the atmosphere perfect, and that soundtrack cannot be beat.
Well, my first GTA game was Vice City back in 2002, and my mum was strict as hell so I had to play this game in secracy.. lol.. Good times.
Technically GTA 3 had the most impact out of any GTA games; it was the first of its kind and in fact, "invented" the open world genre.
Vice City that came out a year later was better in every way, cooler setting, characters etc.. but didn't really change the formula -- at all. It was just GTA 3.1 So it probably had the LEAST impact out of all the GTAs, but it is still my favourite as I like the protagonist (Tommy Vercetti) more than any other in the GTA franchise.
Then you have San Andreas, as the third open world GTA obviously wouldn't be as innovate BUT it was the most complete GTA EVER MADE. bicycles, dozens of mini games, RPG-style leveling up, you could get fat or get thin, you could lift weights, every thing you did was being measured, and then theres the jetpacks and so on. I remember reading an article where they listed everything you could do in S.A. and it you could do more than any other GTA combined + GTA IV even though IV had its own elements like the cell phone and online multiplayer, San Andreas had 200 other things that IV lacked.
So with the HUNDREDS of things to do in S.A. it is TECHNICALLY the best game in the franchise.
IV can do way more than III/VC but its also 6-7 years newer and a next gen game.. its to be expected. THe fact that GTA SA came out 4 years before and had 3-4 TIMES the stuff do in it AND a map that was 3 x larger just proves how disappointing GTA IV was.
GTA IV also took a new turn in the series, trying to be realistic, which I hated.
My scores:
GTA SA: 9.9/10 (as I said, it it TECHNICALLY, the best game, the setting/characters are my second favourite)
GTA III: 9.8/10 (for its time, playing the game in 2012 is redudant as VC/SA are so much better)
GTA VC: 9.7/10 (only because it brought nothing to the table, still my favourite in the franchise)
GTA IV: 3/10 GOD AWFUL GAME.
[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"]GTA IV: 3/10 GOD AWFUL GAME.meconateYour opinion, but 3/10 isn't a reasonable score for a decently made game. I've never been able to play GTAIV for more than 30-40 mins at a time (a total of 10-15 hours in 4 years perhaps..) the graphics are so sharp and blurry at the same time, it just makes me head achy, and the controls are so clunky it feels PAINFUL to play not to mention the story is so boring I don't feel compelled to play... I bought it on PS3 day one.. maybe that's my problem. I re-bought it on PC (the rockstar package on steam for 25 euros Fvck yeah!) hopefully it will feel better with M/KB and graphics mods.. That's at least 2 out of 3 problems solved. So my 3/10 is easily justified, its so bad I can't even play it. I've played games that received 5/10 and completed them, this I just can't.
I dont understand comparing old games to new games. Greatest of all time? San Andreas. The best game? GTA 4.
New games are always better. If San andreas had the graphics and physics of GTA 4 then San Andreas would be the better game by far. But it doesnt have those things. GTA 4 is the better game.

So your main deal with the game is it's graphics? The controls felt fine, and the story is no worse/better than San Andreas as far as I'm aware. Again, I guess it's just opinion.
Also complaining about the graphics, controls and story than praising the previous ones is just... well it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, there are many good qualities about the older games, but the above mentioned are some of the series weakest links, strongest in GTA IV.
[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"]and the story is just awful IMO.meconateAgain, I don't remember any GTA exactly ever having the best of stories in gaming history. About as storytelling as your run-of-the-mill Call of Duty game. Yes, and that worked as far as we weren't supposed to take the story seriously. And then came GTA IV. GTA IV took away the wacky gameplay, and introduced a 'realistic' vibe to the gameplay and a 'realistic' story which was a stupid decision from the very start because of how a GTA game plays. On one side you have a serious story going on, and as soon the cutscene ends you're killing 50 dudes and getting thrown out of windshields. Suspension of disbelief goes out of the fvcking window. At least with the previous games both the story and gameplay were hilariously over the top and clearly not meant to be taken seriously, which gave them a coherence which IV lacks. Not to mention the story isn't half good as you people seem to think it is. Not to seem elitist, but if GTA IV's story seems good to you, you better start reading some good books, or watching some good films. But what's funny is how some of you praise the mechanics. One guy even praised the driving. Yes, it's probably closer to real life cars, but then if I wanted to drive a real life car I wouldn't be sitting in front of the fvcking tv would I? GTA IV was half-assed. Half- assed realism, half-assed story focus, half-assed attempt at making a tragic protagonist.
