[QUOTE="Nengo_Flow"]

It is special for current gen. Uncharted 2 and 3 and TLOU are all still the standard bearers IMO. No games ever topped them this gen and each game looked a slight bit better than the previous. Crysis and God of War are the only games that really came close on these consoles... maybe Red Dead for being an "open world" game (it certainily had it's moments).

That being said, obviously this gen is getting old. So it was sort of impossible for TLOU to really "wow" me in that sense.

Crysis 1 had the biggest impact. Crysis 3 is the best looking game right now. Battlefield 3, Metro 2033 and Last Light, and Witcher 2 are all amazing looking games that raised the bar in one way or another.

To tell the truth I have yet to play TLOU but most people that have played it said it looks great but there a few games this gen that look better.

strange

most think it's the best by reviews and gamers

It's too bad the frame rate spends so much time dancing around in the mid 20's. Just imagine if they pushed this game back a year or so and put it on the PS4. I would almost prefer that.

I really don't get why RAGE keeps getting mentioned. The game was f***ugly, with low res textures, pre-baked shadows, no good lighting to speak of, and had horrible texture popping/screen tearing. It was a decent game, but it was shit to look at.

There first three games I remember as graphically impressive are Batman: Arkham City, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves all on the PS3.

Graphics that really wowed me this gen (chronologically):

FEAR

Crysis

Killzone 2

Uncharted 2

Since then, the standard for this gen was established and nothing really wowed me until the new PS4 sorcerer tech demo.

While I agree (even if you're trolling), the cutscenes look pretty good. Love the facial animations. The actual game? Uncharted 2 looks much better imho.

The cutscenes were pre rendered, that doesn't count in a graphics comparison. :P

I thought TLOU ingame looked great though, the lighting and shadows are among the best out there. If only it had some AA and AF...

The games that were visually impressive for me this gen, when they came out (so maybe they don't look that good anymore, doesn't matter):

Mirror's Edge

Trine 2

Metro

Crysis

Crysis 2

Uncharted 2

Motorstorm Pacific Rift (again when it came out)

Red Dead Redemption

Bioshock Infinite

TLOU

Witcher 2

Hard Reset

Alan Wake

Just Cause 2 PC version only, let's be honest here

LA Noire

Batman Arkham City

That's all I can remember.

Also true. But........ All games have their warts/inconsistencies, including the Crysis games which top my list. Might as well have the games put their best foot forward and go with that.

I listed my favorites earlier in numbered sequence. But, they're not really in order.

True... played it on a PS3 some time ago and while it's a great game with a great setting, the aged console hardware simply prevents the visuals from truly shining, which is a shame, the game would look awesome on the PC...

Crysis 3

The Witcher 2

Far Cry 3

Crysis 2 (especially with mods)

Battlefield 3

Metro Last Light

Metro 2033

Alan Wake

Assassin's Creed 3

Dead Space 3

Tomb Raider

Bioshock Infinite

All of the above games on PC offer the best visuals that I have seen. There are some I am sure I am leaving out though.

On consoles:

Uncharted 3

Uncharted 2

The Last of Uss

God of War 3

GOW Ascension

Halo 4

Gears of War Judgement

Killzone 2 and 3

For me, Witcher 2 is on top, the best looking game this gen. I was also pretty impressed with Hitman Absolution and new Tomb Raider. As for the rest, the usual stuff, Crysis, Metro, etc...

As for the games that rely on a strong artstyle, I was most impressed with Trine 2, Rayman Origins and Mirror's Edge. BS Infinite will probably end up among them as well, but haven't played it yet...

Oh, you must have played the PS3 version. RDR on the 360 is one of the better looking console games. No more blurry than The Last of Us or any other console game at 1280 x 720 res.

Was Witcher 2 your favourite because of the art or it's technical graphics? Whenever I see Witcher 2 screenshots all I see is the use of excessive bloom and some other post processing effects. I don't see anything technical appealing about it. But I digress since I've never played it.

I can't speak for him, but I do agree with him about it being the best looking game overall. I think Crysis 3 has better graphics from a technical standpoint, but the reason The Witcher 2 wins for me is because it has very strong technical merits along with some of the best art direction I have seen in a game. It's just so damn beautiful. Some of the environments stop me dead in my tracks.

Oh, I also don't think the post process effects are overdone at all. It has high dynamic range with fantastic realtime lighting and shadows accross large environements. It uses light shafts, but it isn't overdone at all. Crysis 3 in comparison is much more heavily laden with post process effects (light shafts, lens flares, etc.).

The textures in The Witcher 2 are fantastic and easily some of the best that I have ever seen in a game. Geometric complexity is also very high and the levels are extremely detailed.

So, for me, The Witcher 2 is the best looking game because it is the best marriage of technical and artistic techniques that I have seen.

Was Witcher 2 your favourite because of the art or it's technical graphics? Whenever I see Witcher 2 screenshots all I see is the use of excessive bloom and some other post processing effects. I don't see anything technical appealing about it. But I digress since I've never played it.

Hmm, I must play it for myself. Although I have seen some screenshots floating around the internet that depict the excessive use of bloom.

The Witcher 2 and Arma 3. Although these can technically be argued as next generation.

Metro Last Light (PC), Crysis 3 (PC), Shogun 2 Total War (PC), Skyrim (with mods, PC), GTAIV (PC), etc.

Only real worthwhile game to mention on consoles is TLOU...and from what i've played, it's only mildly impressive.

For me, Witcher 2 is the most perfect combination of highly competent technical and artistic visuals we had this gen, they do a great job complimenting each other. Now sure, in some screenshots, you'll see some excessive post-processing, it's true the game slightly overdoes it in a few certain parts, but still, I strongly advise you to play it, aside from my best looking game this gen, I also find it one of the best RPGs I played in recent years.

I'll surely play it in my spare time.

About the excessive bloom, you can tone that down^^

I agree that The Witcher 2 is among the best looking games out there, not technically maybe, but the combination of art style and super detailed environments and characters does it for me.

Here are some pictures from my recent playthrough:
