Best graphics at the moment?

Note that I'm asking about "best", not "most technologically advanced". "Most technologically advanced" is obviously something like Crysis or MGS4, but neither of these games are particularly beautiful. They're too gritty and "real life".

At the moment I think it would be Far Cry 2, or mabye Mass Effect.

Are you sure you like FPS games? Crysis is pushing the genre forward in every aspect, so I don't understand what's not to like.

Get your eyes checked. Crysis blows any upcoming game away in terms of visuals. If you don't think so, list some games you think are on par with it.

Well I didn't really like Far Cry, but HL2 and Halo rocked...so I guess I wouldn't have liked Crysis regardless what it was.

It was too hard. Also, since my PC is crap, the visuals were horrible. The water looked contaminated.

Oh, and are you sure we played the same game? The gameplay of Far Cry >>>>> Halo 2. Enemy encounters are extremely dynamic unlike in Halo 2, the environments are very open and expansive, and Far Cry's AI far surpasses Halo 2's. Not to mention Far Cry had far more memorable encounters and action sequences. Far Cry's gameplay was slightly below that of Half-Life 2's IMO.

Graphics have a big impact on your experience with a game. They set a game's atmosphere and can have a huge effect on your enjoyment.

I didn't find it hard though. It had pretty average difficulty (slightly harder than HL2,) and was pretty damn easy compared to titles like STALKER.

Another nice thing about HL2 was that it ran well on low end systems, unlike Far Cry.

Anyway, I seem to recall we were talking about graphics here. There was a pretty nice game called Spacefore:Rogue Universe with some nice graphics. Far Cry 2's graphics would give Crysis's a run for it's money.

I practically took a 2 month break from games (and gamespot) this summer so I don't quite understand why "The Darkness" doesn't get mentioned in debates about graphics? I played the demo and I really loved it, the game looked really good and I was actually contemplating buying it instead of BioShock, just because it was so visually pleasing.kankthetank

Wow. Please do some preview-reading before you post those types of ignorant statements. Have you been trying to determine the gameplay by looking at still-image screenshots or something? Crysis looks amazing in the gameplay department. This coming from a FPS fanatic who's played just about everything out there.

Bioshock has awesome gameplay..but Crysis looks even better IMO.

currently released: gotta go with Bioshock - on a technical level its about on-par with Gears, and on a stylistic level it blows Gears away
