Best Hack and Slash game this generation

God of War 3 easily.

Ninja Gaiden For The Win!!!!

I hope for Ninja Gaiden 3 to be as good as the others but now that Itagaki's gone it's obvious that the game will be casualized to the extreme.

Got proof it's gonna be casualized? It's not like NG3 is getting made externally by a Western dev like DmC.

NG: B was a masterpiece no doubt and its still king imo aswell, but keep your juvenile insults towards another fantastic game (Bayonetta) to yourself. Or you know ... try it and be pleasantly surprised.

Bayonetta wins this hands down, it's no contest. It's one of those hack and slash games where going back with different weapons yields fun results, the combat is no button masher, and your skills will improve if you take the time to learn from it. Plus some accessorie/item sets are so fun to use, it just depends on your style. I love mastering the Maha-khala.

Just finished it a few days ago and loved every minute of it. I just started my second playthrough. As for the topic, I haven't played Bayonetta yet so that aside, for me it's between God of War 3 and God of War Ghost of Sparta.

I havnt actually played NG2 yet so i have no real opinion about it. I'll definitely pick it up someday though.

Strange I could swear that I beat Bayonetta on my PS3 lol.

GOW3 I would say bayo, but there is something really off putting about that game....

NGB and NGS didn't have blood yet they are recognised as the best hack n slash games. Personally I don't want comic level of blood in NG3 but the pic that was shown for the game pretty much confirmed that blood will be there, hopefully not as much as NG2 though.

Not sure a picture actually proves the game will feature it. I thought NG2 nailed it, so if it's like NG2, it'll be great.

NGS2 has dismemberment but no blood which made no sense at all. The other thing would be difficulty, taking away difficulty from this game would suck. And of course gameplay should be practically unchanged from previous titles, since it's nearly perfect as it is.

I think people voting GoW3 either have not played the other games or just voting for a PS3 exclusive regardless of quality.

Well uncharted34 did provide an argument although not a very convincing one, basically, graphics and scale, although story sucks. Not sure if that really wins best hack-and-slash.

We're arguing about best "hack-and-slash" though, having better graphics/presentation (something most reviews praise) doesn't do much for us. The reviews I've read never even declared it as the best hack-and-slash either. So is that your argument?

NGS2 is not as bad you say, the difficulty can be ramped up and after a few hours of play you completely forget about the lack of blood. The gameplay is virtually unchanged from NG2 but the difference is the game runs better. Saying that I can reckon NG3 should just refine the gameplay because that's all that matters to me, I want Ryu to move better since his kinda robotic when walking around which you don't expect from an agile ninja. I would also like the story to be a focus too, as good as NG games are the story really ruins the experience for me similar to the lack of blood blood that ruined NGB for you.

Well as a NG2 supporter over sigma2, if 3 has an abbundance of blood upon dismemberment, then ALRIGHT!!!! If not then, no............not alright. Many say, "well, the first didn't have gore"/ But I say, GoW increased the blood output, so if dismemberment is in it, then why not be bloody?cainetao11

I do have doubts about NG3 because Itagaki was the one behind both NG and NG2 and this new guy was in charge of removing blood for purple haze and downgrading difficulty. I wouldn't mind some platforming if done right ala PoP style.

I found NGS2 extremely satisfying, probably the best combat out of all the hack n slash games I played this gen, so yeah I trust Hiyashi to deliver with NG3.

I'm glad you liked NGS2, good for you. The combat was designed by Itagaki though, the port didn't change the combat which is why NGS2 is still great.

It's just that you are putting WAY too much emphasis on blood as if NG2 got a 10 due to the crazy level of blood. Sure Itagaki knows NG well but he went in the wrong direction with NG2 thus the game did not reach the level of awesomeness of the original. As long as NG3 gameplay is EPIC I really dont care if dismemberment and blood is not present and you shoudn't either. Nothing wrong if it is there but if not it's not really a con for the game.

And again you spin things. I said one could make that argument, not that I myself was arguing it. But still, I don't see how that's a weak argument especially when compared to using just one site as the sole measure of critical acclaim.
