We have a thread about your favorite game but what about the best intro? Look around youtube and post as many as you want. Which ones are your favorites? And by intro I mean any kind, it doesn't matter if it's the one before or after the start menu. It can be from any gen...

MGS4 Best I've seen so far. Period.

Chrono Trigger You just have to hear the music and the anxiety will consume you.

Chrono Cross I just like it.

FF8 Pretentious as hell but still good. Easily the most artistic intro of all the FF games to date.

Megaman 8 Can't deny it. The intro isn't that good but the nostalgia factor and cheesy music....

Yakuza 3 This game man, this game... Underrated as hell. I already got the fourth one but haven't been able to play it yet.

Super Metroid I don't know how they did it but they did it. And the thing is that it is so simple yet so amazing at the same time. In part Nintendo should be grateful to Sony for that sound chip, they could have end up with a super crappy one like the Sega Genesis.

MGS4...................... oh god, it still brings a tear to the eye. God that game was amazing. Its been little more than a year since I replayed it (and I played it 5-6 times already). I gonna have to play this masterpiece again.

Agreed, MGS4's intro is just silly.

It was pretentious fluff to be honest. I feel Kojima was trying to make something *look* deep and epic instead of thinking of something deep and then trying to create that vision.

MGS2 and 3 must have drained him, He created pt 4 for it's appeal but he had no great theme when he worked on that project.

When I read this question first one that comes to my mind, as well as many here is MGS2 intro. However I'm sure there is a better one which I like the most, but I just can't remember now.

Truck riding scene with Snakes monologue. Not bad, but not very memorable. Definitely makes you think the game you're about to play is a lot cooler than it actually is lol.

I like how the intro collects all these deep messages about war, and then you're like "Oh good, maybe this Metal Gear game will finally be serious"

And then a minute later giant, mooing bipedal robots with lady-like legs that pee start stepping on people.

honestly that whole game is a blur to me. The only thing i remember is snake's dumb looking camo suit that doesnt cover his head and how dumb he looked old and with an eyepatch. There was also a monkey at some point and i think i remember some dude s****ing himself during a gun fight. Idk anymore lol

Before MGS4 came out I was a hardcore Kojima worshiping MGS fanatic. Yes, those were dark days lol.

I remember when the first negative reviews started rolling in for MGS4 I thought they were just a bunch of blind haters, or idiots that just don't 'get' MGS. Little did I know they were in the right and all these 10/10 guys were absorbed in the hype. I consider KV to be a good reviewer, but MGS4 was probably his single most unprofessional moment. He completely ignored mountains of glaring flaws in literally every aspect of the game for the sake of scoring "Kojimas final MGS and Snakes final chapter" above a 7.5 which is what it rightfully deserved. 8 at best. Couldn't believe how much he was gushing over the game.

Legend of Dragoon

Final Fantasy X

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2 (best cinematic from either though is the Deep Dive video)

Heavy Rain (not the most eventful, but the music and the game is so gripping)

Bioshock (need I explain?)

Wild Arms 2 (Disc 2 Intro)

Call of Duty 4: MW(and while I'm at it, I thought the intro the MW3 was pretty cool too)

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls

My personal favorites are Legend of Dragoon, Deus Ex:HR, and Wild Arms 2 (I just came up with as many memorable ones as I could recall).

lol, all those things were taken from ideas Kojima came out with for MGS (aside from the zombies) I never understood the craze since I could instantly tell they borrowed HEAVILY from the camera approach and style already done in 2001 for MGS2...if I'm not mistaken wasn't RE4 a 2004 game?

And Demon's is probably the only completely CGI intro I think I've ever really liked. It's perfect.

Are we talking about the first part of the game, or the cutscene/CGI? If cutscene/CGI, then Soul Blade will forever be one of my favorites. Being a kid, everything about that intro blew my mind. Dem visuals, dat music, and then I played it and was like, dat gameplay.

MGS 2s shooting and camera was nothing like Resident Evil 4.

And the village sequence isn't like anything in a MGS game period. It's one of the few levels(hell as far as what I can remember the only level) where the entire scenario can escalate based on simple player movement decision. The fight can be made fairly easy if you don't try to escape early or don't run into the cabin. But if you do the villagers increase in numbers, and you get a chainsaw maniac.

It's an idea that frankly should have been expanded on in later shooters. With levels changing entirely on basic positioning decisions by the player.

Early 2005 I believe, cause I was still wrapped up in my MGS3 obsession when it came out.

I'll agree, as soon as I started playing RE4 I noticed a lot of MGS influence.

As for the hype? The level design was outstanding, the gameplay mechanics were addictive as was the upgrade system and the boss battles were on point. Plus they managed to keep all of those aspects engaging all the way to the end and considering how lengthy the game was, it was quite a feat. It felt like an RE game developed by Nintendo. Well designed to the very core.

Metal Gear Solid 4 probably has the best intro sequence of any game I've played. I also really liked the first tram ride that opens Half-Life; it's not particularly exciting but it does a good job of showing off how cool the environment was.

um ...there is no opinion to it bro, the two games don't really work and shoot the same :P MGS 2 had more of a fixed moving camera, and the shooting was done in first person if you wanted to aim precisely. RE 4 kept the camera always behind Leon, and the over the shoulder was implemented so you could aim freely. The only similarities the two games have is that leon's walkie talkie is basically codec lol.

And the village sequence isn't anything like anything in a MGS game period. It's one of the few levels(hell as far as what I can remember the only level) where the entire scenario can escalate based on decision. The fight can be made fairly easy if you don't try to escape early or don't run into the cabin. But if you do the villagers increase in numbers, and you get a chainsaw maniac. It's an idea that frankly should have been expanded on in later shooters. With levels changing entirely on basic decisions made by the player.

Well dat's like...you konw, my opinion man :P

and I always went into the cabin for some reason...

um ...there is no opinion to it bro, the two games don't really work and shoot the same :P MGS 2 had more of a fixed moving camera, and the shooting was done in first person if you wanted to aim precisely. RE 4 kept the camera always behind Leon, and the over the shoulder was implemented so you could aim freely. The only similarities the two games have is that leon's walkie talkie is basically codec lol.

yeah that too...agree to disagree, you even admit that in the red.

Glad FFVIII was in the OP cos I came to say that. It was awesome and really got me excited first time I saw it.

Also Batman Arkham Asylum was epic.

Mass Effect 2s was also really good and so was Bioshocks

Chrono Cross and Ys Origin, especially the godly music in both of them.

Yeah but that was like a common thing in japanese action games. Not much to disagree with there lol. The basic mechanics and how the level worked? Eh no similarity at all.

"War has Changed"

Best there is, no denying it. I also appreciate the song being in Hebrew. It's called "Theme of Love".

Also this one is pretty good too:

Zelda Ocarina of Time game Intro

Link just riding across Hyrule Field in the early morning is just amazing beyond belief. It's nice in a calm peacful way, before there are any problems in the world.

Yep those two do it perfectly.

Are we talking about the first part of the game, or the cutscene/CGI? If cutscene/CGI, then Soul Blade will forever be one of my favorites. Being a kid, everything about that intro blew my mind. Dem visuals, dat music, and then I played it and was like, dat gameplay.

Aw man I almost teared up watching that again. Hadn't seen it since I was really young but I remember every single part of it. As soon as you said it the song played in my head and I was saying "Transcending history and the world" So epic
