Galaxy, No contest. That game is perfect, I own LBP, and Ratchet and Clank
And out of them all I have to say
1.Galaxy
2.R&C: ToD
3.LBP
I didn't like LBP too much, and it honestly didn't feel like much of a platformer to me, as much as other say a "creative Tool" which it's perfect at. The physics are just to floaty. Face it, when it comes to platformers, Mario+Nintendo = Non contest. They know what they're doing.
I'm waiting for some money so that I can but Nuts and Bolts and the old N64 Banjo's on my 360
[QUOTE="Valiant_Rebel"]
I like them all, but I like Shadow Complex the most.

Okay, I take that back. Ratchet and Clank then. Thanks for the correction.
Also in this thread, take your fanboy Goggles off for the platformer on you favorite console. And what's unfair, where is Banjo? In my opinion Banjo should be taking Mirrors edge place in that listing, since it's more of a platformer and Mirrors edge is more of a FPS or first person adventure than a platformer.
I played each of those games listed, so no fanboy bias here.
Why are they not making Braid 2 Mr. Subjective?Konxumer
[QUOTE="LegendofNerd"]
Still fun? You bet.
But a better platformer than SMG? No way.
foxhound_fox
Of course.
That being said, topics such as "Best Platformer this gen" are they themselves subjective, and require subjective answers, therefore, pointing out the subjectivity of a subjective answer in a subjective thread is sort of redundant. Right?

I suppose you're right :P
Though if I may lay down one more subjective opinion, this gen definitely needs more platformers.
SMG by far. It was kind of likemy own sleeper hit. I have never really liked any of the 3D marios. This one didn't interest me at all,and I didn't plan on buying. I'm so happy this game was forced apon me!Galaxy blew me away. Best game this gen IMO.

They made a sequel to Deus Ex, but I'm betting you didn't think IW was much of an improvement over the original, right?
You can always have a perfect or near perfect franchise, or you can make a sequel and fail miserably.
pretty much. I have yet to see anyone actually hate SMG and have a good explanation besides the whole "bu bu opinionz" shieldIts SMG, its not even a contest. Any other vote damn well better have a good explanation because there really isn't a decent comparison available.ActicEdge
As much as I love little big planet, its platforming mechanics leave a lot to be desired. If it had tighter controls, it would have edged out SMG, but it doesnt. SMG is damn near perfect.
If the next one cranks the difficulty up a notch, then it WILL be perfect. :)

PoP was more platforming than not platforming, Im glad you mentioned it. I really loved the slow rhythmic gameplay, it felt really satisfying.Even I liked Galxy. I think that years down the line, we'll keep looking back at Galaxy as an iconic game for this gen.
Others platformers I'd consider:
Shadow Complex
Prince of Persia
VoodooHak
the pollsaid best platformer. Not best lego GTA hybrid thing.I gotta go with... see sig. :P
SecretPolice
the pollsaid best platformer. Not best lego GTA hybrid thing. In that light I guess SMG is a space game going from planet to planet fighting some monsters - Hmm, a Mass Effect clone is what "you" might call it. Me, I'll stick with their both platformers.[QUOTE="SecretPolice"]

R&C was the only good option and that's more of an action adventure game. Sonic Unleashed was really good and was actually a platformer so I'd go with that.sonicthemegamanHow is SMG not a platformer?

I mean it still uses the episode setup from Sunshine. That pretty much killed it right there. That and the lack of any real hub worlds. So many games from past gens beat all the games listed here. R&C was the only good game up there and it's not really a platformer. Sonic Unleashed is a platformer that did something new for the franchise and remixed some old concepts for people who are real Sega fans. That and it's the only platformer I can think of that takes skill to play. It's more technical than it is broken. Some nice side missions, hubs to explore(though they are incredibly small), nice mix of speed stages and combat stages, and a great presentation. Sonic Unleashed beats the snot out Sonic 06 and proved Sonic is still alive. Dark Gaia was simply epic. Really, Sonic Unleashed was the best choice I could think of considering I didn't really like the games listed here. I see no problem with that.

No, I grew up with Sega and respect them, the same way you probably do with Nintendo.

I guess Super Mario Galaxy and LittleBigPlanet are FPS's now.
They weren't fun to play so it doesn't matter to me.[QUOTE="eveileb-ekam"][QUOTE="sonicthemegaman"]R&C was the only good option and that's more of an action adventure game. Weird, considering Tools of Destruction was more like previous R & Cs than Super Mario Galaxy was to Super Mario Sunshine. Super Mario Galaxy, there is nothing wrong with that game. Did I say it was rehashed? ToD being more like the first didn't exactly kill ya know. As for Galaxy, my point about Sunshine was because Sunshine had design issues that made it bad. Being more like SM64 is what made Galaxy any good to begin with. Copying Sunshine did more harm than good and the game was obviously some sorta successor to SM64. Too bad SM64 is argueably better than Galaxy. There is something wrong in almost every game ever made. SMG being too easy and having camera issues disproves that there is "nothing wrong with that game".
Mario Galaxy, but that's only because the competition is so lacking. Ratchet & Clank is too easy and seems to emphasise presentation over depth. Sonic Unleashed was surprisingly fun and addictive, but it had issues with control lag. I might have said Mirror's Edge, but it's so heavily puzzle based that I am at pains to consider it a straight platformer. Of course, if we're going to include those sorts of games, then Braid wins by a clear margin.
