It's seems one of the major trends this gen is making first-person shooters or first-person RPG's set in a ravaged wasteland where human civilization once stood. With that said, which game this era do you think did it better than anything else of its nature.

examples:

RAGE

Fallout 3/ New Vegas

S.T.A.L.K.E.R

Metro

They're action rpgs... the fact that they are in first person and involve guns doesn't make them fpss.

how is borderlands not an fps when the main gameplay mechanic is shooting in first person? same with fallout. just because fallout gives you different combat options doesnt mean its not an fps/rpg. so can we call deus ex a brawler? you can go through most of the game without firing at someone. lets call crysis a stealth game cause you can go invisible :roll:

I have to go with Metro 2033, I would say Borderlands 2 but it takes place on a different planet and it was like that from the moment people settled on pandora.

There isn't really any apparent innovation, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the first games to have a very good sense of desperation and survival, it feels gritty and atmospheric, that's what it brought to the table.

Yeah sure they can, but comparing them to solid FPSs doesn't make any sense, it's just unfair.
