Best post-apocalyptic, first-person game this gen

My favorite so far is the Borderlands series, but mainly because I have not played so many FPS games out there.

I'm sure it'd be a tougher fight if I had played through STALKER, Fallout NV, or Metro because those three games look awesome, but I just have not gotten around to them yet.

You can't really form a respectable opinion on STALKER with just 3 hours of gameplay, I was pretty much forcing myself to play the first few hours because it seemed so terrible. But I don't know when, I just sort of understood the purpose of the game and enjoyed it a lot after that... Really not good for first impressions, considering it has fairly mediocre gunplay, outdated graphics, crappy presentation. Everything is bad. But the atmosphere easily outshines any other FPS.

It's not pristine perfect design, but many RPGs, and other games with a heavy emphasis on progression, begin slow simply because you start with essentially nothing; no stats, no gear, no good items, and no good weapons.

Calling it terrible game design is rather extreme.

Name me 5 other FPS with 1. huge open levels 2. isn't linear 3. has an inventory and loot 4. has a quest system 5. doesn't have regenerating health, but instead uses a health system where you have to use med kits / bandages / anti rads to cure yourself. In Stalker, you can shoot and enemy, run away and hide and wait for them to bleed out (if they don't have any bandages or medkits). Stalkers world is completely unscripted, and completely dynamic. He said Metro 2033's "Russian developers" had brought "innovation" to the genre through the game, despite the fact that:

1. Metro 2033 doesn't innovate at all

2. Metro's devs aren't Russian :lol:

It doesn't have all of those things but it's still a better game.

Fallout: New Vegas is the best.

Metro 2033 is right behind it. But New Vegas takes the cake without any real effort here.
