Best Resident Evil game up until now..? and your worst..?

For the Best... Im torn between Resident Evil REMAKE (Gamecube, Wii) and Resident Evil 4 (Gamecube, Wii, PC, PS2, iPhone, iPad, Mobilephones).

Resident Evil 4 (well the gamecubeversion and the ports of it) really made a new Resident Evil that completely changed the way the game was played. It was also the revitalisation of the third person shooter genre as a major genre. Especially Gears of War borrowed heavily on it.

Resident Evil REMAKE on the other hand was the perfection of the old resident evil formula. It had the best graphics of its time and still looks awesome (especially compared to Resident Evil Code Veronica which was released only 2 years prior to that). But the real accomplishment of this game is that they nailed the atmosphere that the series often lacked. The PSone Resident Evils were often called horror survival games that were carried from cheap scares while the silent hill series would live on its atmosphere. REmake however found a good compromise between the elements of Silent Hill and the original RESeries cheap scares.

The worst is probably 5.. (outside of the countless spinoffs of course. gunsurvivor is even worse then 5. i would probably take umbrella chronicles over 5 though) It was just a reskinned 4 and the coop element of the game was really poorly implemented as your AI partner was no help at all and only a source of frustration if anything. The whole game felt like a cheap action movie which is sad to see since shinji mikami really reestablished the series through REmake and RE4 imo. Interestingly enough, i found that the co op system of RE 0 was much better. sure you couldnt actually play with someone else. but in single player the AI somehow was much better and you could switch between characters. also the Implementation of the coop element in the puzzles were a lot better.

Although i mentioned UC lets just talk about the mainline Resident Evil games or it gets overboard.

Hard for me to say which one is the best since I really enjoyed the 2nd and the 3rd. I'd have to say the 3rd was the best imo. I love how it took place almost at the same time while Leon and Clair were fighting to escape Raccoon City. Also the return of Jill was just awesome.

I'd have to agree that RE5 was the worst. The story totally blew, Chris looks way too muscular (almost goofy in a way) *****SPOILER ALERT***** I hate how they portrayed Jill in most of her scenes. It was trying too hard to over shadow RE4, so most of RE5 was just more of an action movie rather than the spooky dark atmosphere.

I've only played 1-5 so the best for me is 4 and worst is 5.

The best: Probably Code Veronica

The Worst: Probably 0.

5 is the only one I've played since the first one. I liked it. It wasn't a great horror game or anything, but a fun game regardless.

My fav: Res 1, 2, 4, C:V. REmake.

Least fav: Res 5, Zero, 3.

The ones I've played have all been pretty bad barring RE4 and maybe Code: Veronica.

I don't see why people have such a beef with Resident Evil 5. I thought it was a great game. It's local co-op (didn't try it online)was amazing and I thought it was very well paced. I don't think it was as good as single-player experience as it was a co-op experience, but the campaign was well-crafted either way. The story did seem kind of dopey, but the actual game was exciting enough that me and my bro didn't care when we ran through it.

From the ones i played (1, 2, 3, CV, remake, 4, 5):

best: tie between 2 & CV

worst: 5

but I hate 4 the most because it killed one of my favorite franchises and turned it into a 3rd person shooter which is a genre i don't like.

I don't see why people have such a beef with Resident Evil 5. I thought it was a great game. It's local co-op (didn't try it online)was amazing and I thought it was very well paced. I don't think it was as good as single-player experience as it was a co-op experience, but the campaign was well-crafted either way. That has to be one of the most well-reasoned posts I've seen explaining one's dislike of a game. SW can learn from this.

RE5 is my favorite.

Worst are those Outbreak versions they made a few years back.

Why do people hate 5 so much? I loved it.

Best: Resident Evil 4

Worst: Resident Evil: Survivor (even with the G-Con 45 the game still wasn't that fun and it was pretty pointless Capcom taking out the use of a light gun out of the US version but still glad Capcom kept the light gun support in the PAL version.)

i liked the atmostphere of the first 2 games the best but the gameplay of 4 makes it more fun, so if you can find a way to put a haunted mansion on the outskirts of a city about to be infected with the T virus and shove some RE characters in there and give it a decent story, i'd play it up and down.

btw, all these open world mission games and not a single zombie outbreak game? really, thats what im waiting for.

RE 4 and 2 are still the best. RE 3 and 5 are the worst. And RE 1 is meh.

If you're so sure this is a "let's bash RE5" thread is because you agree RE5 is the worst... in which case I don't see the relevance of TC being a sheep or not.

RE2 was best because it just seemed comlete with RE3 they sort of went backwards in branching storyline and such...RE4 was worse then RE5 because it was the downfall of the series not only as gameplay and atomosphere but in story they completely destroyed the story setup in RE1-Veronica.
