The best plots I've seen in games would have to be
call of duty 4
OOT
resident evil 4
but iunno something about GTA San Andreas will allways hold a special place in my heart
[QUOTE="Chutebox"]I'll prob get flak for this, but I love FFX's story.Foolz3h
You and me both buddy.
But I tihnk we mgiht be the only two.
the only 3 ;).....
There are very, very few quality stories in video-games, it makes me wince to think Halo is regarded as some sort of high art by fans, critics and Bungie even though it is the most tawdry, shamelessly populist tale around when compared to a sci-fi novel. Bioshock made huge progress, it owes its debt to the scanning system of Metroid Prime which allows the player to decide if they experience the story inits fullest. Eternal Darkness is another notable mention, with its Lovecraft-esque horror.
However the best story in games is undoubtedly Tetris, the philosophical arguments that a simple puzzleposes are vast. ;)

You haven't played many good games if you think Bioshock made huge progress. Sure the twist was good but the story wasn't that great and the audio tape thing was just a bad way to telling it.darklord888
The audio tape was a great way to tell the story, instead of replicating films poorly or bloating the game with cut-scenes (the bane of video-games) the devs gave players the choice to flesh out the story fully and make the world even more believeable, or simply play with only the minimum of plot details if they so wished. I think the new trend of interactivity in cut-scenes, such as those in Assassin's Creed, is promising but still fixated on other media rather than forging an identity for video-games.
mgs1, mgs2, the witcher, starcraft.
i liked the way the story was presented in half life 1, 2 and fear the best however, thats not to say that they necessarily had great stories though, i think some people may be confusing the two terms.
all i can think of right now.
and as much as i loved uncharted its story has no place in this thread, it wasnt bad but it wasnt great by a long shot.
XenogearssandroDXI couldn't agree with you more XenoGears was the best JRPG and Square's best title

Speaking of story telling. I've never played a game that tells a story better than MP 1;. Utter brilliance. 2 wasn't too bad eihter!
