To TC: Great sig  So true.

But I rarely ever get compelled by a video games story. There are other mediums that do it so much better than video games. It's the gameplay that TIES IN with the story that compells me the most.

Try Final Fantasy Tactics, that game had best story among Final Fantasy games.

Shadow Hearts series isn't bad at story aspect either.

MGS> than all in terms of story.

Ocarina of Time is timeless. So are most zelda games. except for TP that was a bit of a letdown.

FF 7 was good. so was X. but 12 stunk beyond belief. KH is ok good story but nothing special just a fun game.

Halo 1 had a good story. 2 was good but the ending was bad and most didnt like the arbitar.

other than that there really isnt a group of bests. just a bunch of good ones. Recently id say the Darkness had a very good story for a videogame.

Depends on what you mean by best, and also what your tastes are.

Want *** stories? Go for Japanese games.

Want engaging sci fi? Go for Half Life.

Want something a little more deep? Try Halo.

Want something interpretive? Try Shadow of the Colossus.

I can tell you're a hermit.

Just because Planescape is complex does not mean it craps over every other story out there.

Charles Dickens named one of the most simple stories ever created the best one he's ever read: The Prodigal Son.

thanks and i should care for your opinion because? personally i never got into Planescape. it was okish. I dont care if u all knock the MGS series for over the top cutscened, the story telling is awesome. the characters are awesome. the game series is awesome. When Planescape gets the universal love MGS does then come back and talk about it. until then dont downplay MGS.

HAHAHAAH jerry mcguire, million dollar baby, walk the line

this is the best you can come up with

none of these movies are deep at all they are simply character movies, and political/war movie in case of schindlers list

they only exceed at character development but the issues and philosophy in these movies cant even touch the games i mentioned

Im gonna try and stay open minded but uhh...Halo wasnt too deep to me? I havent played the Halo2 Campaign but I have played the Halo1 campaign and the story was average to me and pretty much everyone says Halo 1 had a better story than 2?

If you're into turn-based RPGs, get Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, or Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2.

If you like interpretive, killer7 is one of, if not the best story I've seen in a game. It's highly twisted though.

and in what world did xenogears have a story worthy of the same sentence..

as Godfather, Good Fellas, and Shiendlers List(also all of u need to stop spelling it differently because i still dont know how to spell it).

Jerry mcguire is a fun movie to watch. simple and fun. thats it. thats why i picked it. Million Dollar Baby is quite possibely the most depressing movie i have ever seen. so whatever.

I didn't think it was bad because I thought it was boxing movie.

It was bad because it was very typical melo-dramatic cliche. If you watch Korean movies or Japanese movies, there has been TONs of movies with same theme and same scene over and over and over again.

It was like watching Kill Bill, just major rip off from another movie and taking credit for something it didn't deserve.

The Godfather, Good Fellas, Shindlers List(god i need to learn how to spell that), Million Dollar Baby, Walk the Line, Jerry Mcguire(yeah i said it), and a bunch of other Hollywood movies would love to say S.T.F.U and sit down.jg4xchamp

Most of those are not on Planescape Torment's level...

BULLSH!! :|

Many people think complex = good story.

which is stupid there are other factors. character development is one that videogames are far behind Movies.

planescape torment has incredilbe character development

the NAMELESS ONE probably is the opitomy of character development LOL

godfather and goodfellas are in no way deep at all

godfather is a romantic take on crime, and goodfellas is a gritty take on crime like i said they have good characters but the issues they deal with are in no way deep at all....

they are just no where near the level of xenogears, xenosaga or planescape torment, or FFX

tidus222

Good characters? Why the hell are you separating characters from stories? Characters are what bring out stories. The whole damn point of the first Godfather was Michael's rise to power, from a humble young pie to one mean Don!

If I may say so in the nicest way possible, go back to English class, or whereever they teach literature. If storyline was all that mattered in a story, B-movies would take the cake anyday.

Cassablanca, Walking Life, City of God, Pulp Fiction, etc. Its not even close between the stories in Movies versus the stories of videogames.

how does that relate to Planescape...

FlockofSpagheti

Because, superficially, Planescape's storyline is more complex than any of those listed up there.

Dude are you kidding me... superficially complex what are you talking about... it was easy to get if you paid attention and the issues it dealt with were far greater than what most movies pull off...

You're the same guy that said Half Life 2 was deep and then when I asked you how it was you ran away.

And from what you just replied you don't understand what complex means.

Issues it dealt with?

Movies have already dealt with rape, euthanasia (even from a Catholic and that's just scandalous), child abuse, incest..... you have no idea mate. Stop watching Pirates of the Caribbean and get going at your local video store.

Oh, and this is one for Americans:

Citizen Kane.

That's the American dream gone corrupt.

I hate it when people say "the issues" like it means something. so a movie like "schindlers list"(thank u frozenligueid) is suddenly less great because its not a special issue. same with Godfather, and good fellas, etc.

Are u seriousaly on something. Pulp Fiction, Cassablanca, etc. there are a ton more to name.

Not to mention psychological torture and pedophilia. Hard Candy was an excellent film, not sure how well known it is though (not much of a film buff, personally).

meh the characters are to cliche

like oscar schindler for example in schindlers list all he did the whole movie was profit off the jews cheap labor cost than at the end are we supposed to beleive he actually cared for them

BS the real oscar schindler only tryed saving jews cause he knew germany was aabout to lose the war and he would gain sympathy and not be a war criminal

same thing with godfather bunch of cliched characters that have gone through the hollywood cookie cutter.

games like xenogears, planescape pull of better characters and story complexity

Dude I did not run away... I knew it was a waste of my time to try convincing you since you had not notice all the little hints Valve left around to point you towards the greater conclusions... but dudehow exactly are those important or meaningful issues to deal with... sounds more like people trying to make a buck off of controversy lol. but dude Planescape had an incredible story one of the best I have ever seen and I read... I would almost compare it to the Count of Monte cristo which if you have not read it is amazing... the movie sucks though lol... but the issues Planescape dealt with were way above that crap... i will not go into them because many people have not played the game and I do not want to spoil it for them...
