[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]I liked MGS3's story the most because out of all the games in the series it was the one that worked best as a stand-alone game. You didn't need any knowledge of Metal Gear or who Big Boss was to get a kick out of it. It was my own starting point for the series actually.I have a feeling alo of people like MGS3 story the most cause its more staright forward a-b then the others. I just didint like it as much cause none of the villians had a backstory. Only the boss and electro man had a backstory. They did it in 1,2 and was happy when they brought it back with 4.
Silent-Hal
Well yea of course it works on it own as stand alone. Its the very start of the whole series :P

(LOL don't delete me you retarded mod I'm not serious). MGS3 Was my favorite story from that series because it came together in a way that MADE SENSE. FFX was good too.I have a feeling alo of people like MGS3 story the most cause its more staright forward a-b then the others. I just didint like it as much cause none of the villians had a backstory. Thats what I was basicly saying. MGS3 story was very staright forward for a MGS game. With like 3 twist planted here and there and the fun dream part. Thats why I guessed why more people liked it even those that werent into MGS before. Me I like the complicated stuff makes the experiance more fun and keeps you thinking after its all over. To me MGS1 is still the best of the series. Man I love that story.
Bioshock had a whole back story of it aswell. Listening first hand to people during the downfall of rapture was intense! Ryan's personal diarys of how he knew fontaine was planning to take rapture etc, etc.Bioshock did have an excellent story, but Mass Effect's is just on a whole differnt level imo. I mean there's the hours of dialogue, codex, 2 spin off books etc.[QUOTE="ThatsSimtastic"][QUOTE="angelkimne"]What? Mass Effect has mountains of backstory/lore in the game and spin-off books, Bioshock just has a few audio logs :?angelkimne
Just go and look on the Wiki's for both games and it's pretty clear which universe is deeper.
Bioshock has a lot of philosophies behind the actual story itself. So, in my opinion, the Bioshock world is actually very, very deep compared to the Mass Effect world. Most of them inspired by the books written by Ayn Rand - Fountainhead, Atlus Shrugged, etc.[QUOTE="angelkimne"]Bioshock did have an excellent story, but Mass Effect's is just on a whole differnt level imo. And you got to punch a journalist! The Legacy of Kain games,Soul Reaver ect (all 5 of them).By far best story told in gaming imo.I really love MGS and I've played through all of them but they dont come even close.

I always wanted to get into the series. The funny thing is I beat the last in the seires and I think I understood every kinda bitter sweet for raziel. I really liked him. I was thinking of buying LOK for PS1 since its on the PSN.

My new favorite story is Batman:AA. It was pretty good even considering how good the DCU is right now.
Not overall favorites but one of my favorites of games I beat recently.
soul reaver 1 (minus the ending, the ending was the biggest let down in a game i've ever experienced. but up until the ending i was HOOKED lol.
Yea LOL at anyone who has a different opinion from yours Oh, my bad. I forgot that some people might like horribly written, cruddy context that makes little to no sense. It's like one person finding humor in another person claiming the 50 cent game was poetic. Shame on them.[QUOTE="vdastampede"]

The best story in order for me is
- Final Fantasy X
- Kingdom Hearts 3
- Onimusha 3
- Silent Hill 2
Good times, good times.
Lionheart08
Can you fill me in on how that one went down? :P

Plot holes, ridiculous amounts of convolution, waterfalls of cliches and pretentious dialogue, and naff philosophy generally make for terrible writing and plotting.[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"][QUOTE="vdastampede"] Oh, my bad. Again, that's not opinion. There are plot holes, that's objective. There are mountains of cliches, also objective. There is a philosophy and general plot structure that is utterly naive in every single way possible. I've said it before, but the enjoyability of a movie is subjective. The craftsmanship is not.Yea LOL at anyone who has a different opinion from yours Oh, my bad. I forgot that some people might like horribly written, cruddy context that makes little to no sense. It's like one person finding humor in another person claiming the 50 cent game was poetic. Shame on them. MGS1,2 and 3 aren't that bad. Well at least compared to MGS4. As for the not making sense part. As much as Kojima and Murata need editors and as the convoluted as the some of the titles are. They do make some sense it doesn't take a genius to comprehend the stories in the MGS series. Now that I got that out the way lol. Nothing touches PlaneScape Torment and Xenogears IMO.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]

Is it? If someone argues with you that the moon is made of cheese and you consistantly tell them their wrong and they reply "Oh well, you have your opinion and I have mine" you're not gonna find that the least bit funny? Actually the comparison was spot on and it isn't my fault if you don't get it.I honestly find it a bit weird that everyone is saying Bioshock. I don't know I played the game and found nothing special about the story. If anything it was insanely predictable.
Now Planescape Torment has one of the best storys in a game:)

Yikes, such a hard question for me. I found the characters in Metal Gear Solid 4 all to be full of emotion and their words had weight to them. The atmosphere created by the world and audio logs in Bioshock was enthralling. The vast scope and connection to the cast of Mass Effect is breath-taking. The sheer immersion and ominous tone of Half Life 2 truly sticks out, especially being a First Person Shooter. But for me, Kingdom Hearts, the entire series, is very close to my heart and it may be unfair, but this series stands alone for me. I have never felt more connected to a story than I did with Sora on his journey for his friends. A mature tale hidden behind colourful characters and vibrant worlds are a real treat.... Ugh I miss the old days :)

I'm not trying to force feed you anything. I don't expect you to agree with me by the end of all this or change your mind. I don't have a problem with someone disagreeing with me or having an opinion different than mine.
That doesn't mean, however, that I'm not going to retort when someone makes a terrible point. I don't expect everybody to dislike the MGS story, but for someone to state it's "the best story ever"? You wouldn't find it odd if someone told you "George Clooney was the best Batman ever"? Or "I think Jack and Jill went up the hill" is the best song ever? Many would and many would argue that they're wrong because, let's face it, they are. No, there isn't any scientific facts or proof that disproveGeorge Clooney is the best Batman, but that doesn't make it true no matter how many people think he is despite it being their opinion.
Same applies to MGS. Remember the dialougue between Sunny and Naomi and how painfully slow, boring, and pointless it was? Is that the best story telling? Or Snake constantly looking at Eva's cleavage? That's the best story telling? The resolution to that awesome cliffhanger in MGS2? Codec messages with characters that feel the need to explain every bit of detail of every little freakin thing? THATS the best story in video game history?
Yes I'm sure some people feel that way. But I'm still going to tell them they're wrong because they are. Wheather they agree with me or not.

I think they tries and it was a really really bland attempt, give it to a pro dev and id love to see another one, or even the originals story retold
