This is the worst generation for story judging from the games I have played. BTW, MGS4, while one of them best this gen, was HORIIBLE compared to the past 3 games.

I vote for Super Paper Mario. Honestly the story and writing was done so very well.

[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="dreman999"]The collectors are the reapers tools. They are no longer alive. They might as well be the reapers themselves, but in truth they were their avatars. dreman999

That's wrong. The reapers are robots made from the goo of the advanced races they enslave every 50 000(?) years. It sounds stupid but it is what it is. You need to get the story before you say it's this genereations finest.

You did not play ME2. The reapers are organic and inorganic beings. They're not machines. Also, collects are the tool for the reapers. All this is confirmed in ME2. If you played ME2 you would know this. This fact was bluntly stated in me2 with no form of confusion over it's fact what so ever.

You said that the reapers are the same as the collectors and you were wrong. Please stop assuming what I've played and not played when YOU were wrong.

The reapers are an ancient race, yes organic and inorganic, that comes back to this galaxy every 50 000 years to enslave the population, kill them, turn them into goo and make a new reaper, who each is an avatar of the race they enslaved. Which sounds pretty stupid to me.

I'm sorry but it does. How in the hell do they manage to eradicate all life when there are at least 20 races in the ME universe, and god knows how much species that haven't discovered Space travel. And how do they chose which race to make a reaper. When they mention the previous killing of everything in the galaxy, they only mention the proteans. So were the proteans the only advanced species 50 000 years ago? How is it possible that there was only one race back then but twenty races now. I'm sorry this is why stupid vilains like this make no sense.

No, it's not. The thing is that we don't know why theyare doing it. And from what been stated so for form them it sound that they think they're helping us. The reapers are an exaple of blue and orange moraliy. As for the collecter, they are the reapers tools, they are no longer a self thinking race, not even slave. They no better than a remote control car and the reapers can directlypossessthem at any time. They are no more than an extended hand of the reapers.

Mass Effect 1

GeneralShowzer

I don't know what people see in this game. It was the typical Bioware storyline. Hero who can't do wrong gathers party and saves world from ancient evil.

Every story can be simplified and generalized.

MGS4 - good guy does lots of shooting and defeats tyrant before he conquers the world
GoW - bald dude in really bad mood slices everything in his path and gets revenge
Assassin's Creed - mysterious man assassinates bad people and stops global conspiracy
Batman AA - fearless hero saves the city... again

See how easy that is? If you're deliberately going to turn a blind eye to Mass Effect's intriguing story of a cycle of extinction, how a vastly ancient race manipulates the evolution of other species to serve their own purpose, as well as a complex history of galactic affairs between unique and disparte civilizations, like how the Salarians uplifted the primitive Krogan to space faring status and then had to contain their rebellion by stunting their population growth, and how humanity' entry into the space era is a struggle for them to find their place in an already establihed glactic community....

well there really isn't much point in debating the story quality of this game when you insist on being so uninformed. Might have helped if you actually played the game ;)

And yeah I am also going to cast my ballot for best story to Mass Effect and Alan Wake.

BIoware games look a lot like each other that's what i was saying. You're doing the same thing in all Bioware games and Mass Effect felt very familiar, especially when compared to KOTOR. You might think that that stuff is highly orriginal and compelling stuff, but I've seen it all before in other, better Sci-Fi universes. I will not say that the universe is undetailed or badly thought off, but the storyline certainly is.

No, we don't know why they are doing it. What happened at the end of ME2 was to answer what happen to the people the collectors took. We still don't why they want to grind use up and make use in to reapers. They don't need to make more of themselves in direr need ti stay alive as a whole or even need to go out of their way to even both to catch use and reaperfi us anyway. Plus the mountain of harbinger comments makes it clear that they thing their helping us, especially when he quotes"We are your salvation through destruction.(Thanks for agreeing that the collectors are the reapers tools and are no longer a race.

The collectors are a race daugh. They might be an enslaved race, but they are still a mysterios old alien race which they cooked up for ME2 because they were saving the reapers for ME3. And it's pretty clear by now that the reapers are ensuring survival by assimilating species.

Is the cells of your body a living being? If they arn't than the collector defently are not a race. They're just organic robots.

Easily Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I was immersed in that game from start to finish. I don't get why people are saying MGS4 so much. I thought it was by far the worst story in the series though some parts were quite funny.

It's a tie between MGS4 and RDR in my opinion. MGS4 managed to neatly tie up all the loose-ends of the series' massive story, and bring them to a close. That's no small feat. And RDR, well lets just say it's story is on par with some of the best films in the Western genra.

Ugh this thread sickens me. Its basically just name the most popular games of the generation that even attempt to have a storyline. I haven't played enough games this gen to say which game has the best storyline, but I sure as hell know its not ME or MGS4. TWEWY alone blows those games out of the water. I bet theres even some better than TWEWY.

How do you know he hasnt played them? Maybe he did play them but just didnt find the stories particulary enjoyable. I cant say I cared for either MGS4's plot or Mass Effect's plot either. Though I must admit both of them did a pretty good job providing a cinematic experience however.

MGS4. I know it gets quite a large amount of hate here and I'll admit that it could have used some pruning down but the core of it is extremely solid. The fact it manages to make sense of MGS2 and bring together the entire plot into one ending that actually feels like a proper ending is something pretty amazing in it's own right.

There have also been some really great stories in some of the DS/PSP games released this gen. I thought TWEWY was very unique and interesting.

I thought Hillary was eventually revealed to be the higher power behind it all... hence the reason she blows her brains out all over the American flag at the end.

[QUOTE="dreman999"] So your say games you have no played like mgs4 and ME2 HAVE BAD STORIES?dreman999

How do you know he hasnt played them? Maybe he did play them but just didnt find the stories particulary enjoyable. I cant say I cared for either MGS4's plot or Mass Effect's plot either. Though I must admit both of them did a pretty good job providing a cinematic experience however.

The guy only has a wii. Look on his account.

Ive played and beaten MGS4. I found it to be extremely overrated, along with its story. MGS1 had a much better story, as Im sure 3 did as well(havent played it though) MGS2 was alright, I liked it much more than MGS4. Have you played TWEWY? Easily my favorite story in any game.

Nope, I may get around to it eventually. Possibly next summer. Though Im pretty sure Id enjoy ME1 more based on the community here. Was ME's story unique? because thats how I judge whether a story is good. ME to me seems to have a pretty standard RPG storyline.

Edit: Ive only played the intro to MGS3. I got instantly turned off by it though for some reason. I think cause of its setting. Strange, I know. Maybe I will give it another go on the 3DS.

I would not say that. Whatr make ME so good is it very gray universe and living mirrior main character. Even the reapers themselves are gray, their is no true good or evil.

The Reapers are not morally grey. They manipulate everyone and commit mass genocide. You can't justify genocide.

I will get to it eventually and have to judge for myself. Though do you have to play ME1 to understand 2? Cause Im not getting another 360 just to play ME.

Braid, The Witcher, and for a less popular choice, World in Conflict.

Play it on pc. and no me1 is not requiered but the game is deeper if you Play me1 first and you carry over your choices from ME1 to ME2.

The thing with the reapers is that they think they are helping us. That they has some justified reson to turn people into reaper part. It orange and blue morality with them.

I doubt my laptop can handle ME1. Although I can play the witcher on it on the lowest settings.
