Hey all, I was just passing by my 5,000th post and I thought I'd make a thread...

I went over my own personal collection of this generation games and decided on the three games with the best value, ie most fun and enjoyment to get my $60 worth... mine are as follows...

1. Mass Effect

ME

-fun and attainable achievments

-insanely replayable story and decision making.

-classes classes classes... could play it forever and never get tired.

-also, a really good difficulty balance.

2. Fallout 3

F3

- infectious environment of discovery, near impossible to put the controller down

- side missions that cannot be skipped. Adding to the allure of seeing everything

- tons of DLC content.

- sooo many options to character growth it almost begs at multiple playthroughs.

3. Assassins Creed Brotherhood

ac

- Fully fleshed out 40 hour+ single player campaign with enough extras to keep you roof jumpers happy.

- Insanely creative and highly satisfying MP... easily my favorite of the generation... no cheap glitching or difficult learning curve, just really good cat and mouse gameplay...

What are yours system wars... Orange box? WOW? GO!!!!

I've tried to like AC, just cant, too boring to me. For me personally, any game where I get over 40 hours of playtime(wich includes MP mode),.make the $60 price point acceptable.

1. Shogun 2

2. MW2

3. Dark Souls

4. Any Pokemon this gen

I also own BF3 + Premium on PC but I don't feel it is the best value for money. The so called expansions are essentially map packs with a few game modes just like map packs in CoD.

Mount & Blade: Warband, got months of enjoyment, will probably keep me occupied for years.

NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer, 6 - 10$ for the greatest story told this generation? It should be worth over a 1000.

And many more that i can't remember.

Dragon Quest IX offers almost infinite gameplay and content. As far as I've seen and played, that's the most bang for my buck I've had this gen. Pokemon always gives me well over 100 hours of gameplay as well.

Batman Aekham City is probably the most content rich action adventure around with over a couple hundred collectables most of which are hidden by brilliant puzzles, side missions, combat challenges, stealth challenges, and campaign challenges.

As far as the best bang for your buck of the generation (that is mroe or less singleplayer) I would say Xenoblade and Dragon Quest IX are the best chocies.

Batman is a really great choice... one of the few games Ive played that I honestly felt I would never complete 100%. I only put it to the side because there was soooo much stuff coming out at the time.

This gen (in terms of series) 1. Football manager 2. Total War 3. Civ 4. Mass Effect 5. Bethesda (fallout, oblivion & Skyrim) As an couple of extra game I'd throw in CK2 which I got on an amazon sale for under $10 and have had close to 200 hrs of game time in it and Bloodbowl. I lol @ console exclusives (esp this year) in terms of the amount of content they contain vs cost.

In terms of SP? Hell yes. All the PC games there I talked about I pretty much just play SP (except FM, CK2 & BB), but they all have extensive MP as well and huge communities supporting them.

I mean the whole package: single, co-op, 4 player split screen deathmatch, online modes, tons of options and customisation, map editor (of sorts)? Seems pretty decent for a puny console game :P

O I ain't comparing Halo to a PC series like Civ. I'm pretty dumb but not suicidal :P I do think Halo is brilliant for content on it's own merits tho, it's very rare for a game to have single, co-op, local play and online that are all brilliant. Usually one or more is neglected: I won't be playing split screen in Battlefield, co op in Crysis, or single player in Borderlands (I hope!)...

- Skyrim. I put 200 hours into my main character so far and still the end is not in sight.

- ArmA X. The entire series with all of the expansions and a lot of extras for the price of one game. I've even seen it around for 35 euros.

- Age of Empires III collection goes for like 15 euros these days. An incredible RTS with plenty of content, play modes and replay value.

- Oblivion Anniversary Edition is available for 10 euros in some places. A great deal for the expansive main game, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles.

Any other answer than Orange box is wrong. u got 5 games in one box. SNIPER4321
well of course, but at the same time I can't say that I put more hours into the orange box than other games I listed... When I say value I mean that it scratched every itch for a very long amount of time... Hell I put more time into Splinter Cell Conviction than Orange box because I enjoyed the game so much... i;m commenting on the value of the experience as opposed to the actual content. That said, orange box is a great value.

Since PC doesn't have gens I'll just start from '05:

-Guild Wars 2: Game has at least a couple hundred hours of open world stuff, a replayable story that lasts a bit, 32 'end-game' PvE dungeons, 4 siege warfare maps, and an organized PvP mode. I already have 200 hours in the game and I can see doubling or tripling that before I'm done.

-Team Fortress 2: One of the most varied FPS out there, and it makes co-op play easy by accomodating people of all skill levels. I'm scared to see the hours I have now combined with the hours I had before Steam started recording them.

-Dark Souls: I went into the game expecting some masochistic piece of crap like the old old dungeon crawlers. What I got was a really nice paced dungeon crawler with an awesome world, great combat, nice variation in said world, an amazing meta-world story, and some of the best boss music in a game. This one can easily get 2 or 3 playthroughs before burn out kicks in.

Any Fallout game past or present.

Borderlands 1 and 2. It's amazing how many guns they have in the game that are awesome when most games can't even give you 10 that are decent.

The Orange Box- source engine, baby. BTW Black Mesa, pretty cool stuf.

Any GTA from 3 on...I still play all of them. I know people hate on GTA but no other open world game gets the actual open world "right" like Rockstar.

Simcity-I can't count how many hours I have sunk in to this series. February can't come soon enough.

Just off the top of my head.

Crusader Kings II

Elder Scrolls/Fallout games

DQ IX

Demon's Souls

All those off the top of my head are games I've put well over 100 hours into, and could easily put 100+ more into in the future.

And soon to add XCOM:EU:D

$60 is too much to pay for any game, even on release.
