Why not compare LBP2 to NSMB?CarnageHeartBecause NSMBW isn't Nintendo's flagship game. And NSMBW still walks all over LBP in terms of tightness of controls and overall physics. Level design is harder to determine, since they both have good designs. What I still can't get over just how poorly Sackboy controls compared to all the other platformers out there that I've played in my life. Had it been better, I probably would have bought a PS3 for LBP... but for me, its just terrible. And I find it funny how people who bring up NSMBW so easily forget about DKCR. Which trounces all over LBP with a vengeance.
LBP was fun because of the experience of playing with other people. It wasn't technically all that great though. SMG is the better platformer I say. Sorta like comparing ModNation to Mario Kart. MN is great for all the crazy tracks you can come up with, but Mario Kart has the better mechanics.
Exactly, they can't be compared.... because pratically everyone know's the galaxy games are in an entirely different league,[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"]Oh look..this thread again..... the correct comparison is LBP2 vs NSMBW. NOT SMG!!!! Shinobishyguy
so let's compare it to the weaker NSMB series to make it look better ;)
(and even then those game still school LBP in platforming mechanics)
Well LBP isn't a 3D platformer it's a 2D platformer. And this is an anti-sony thread because for the most part Nintendo fanboys don't allow any other game to be better than their top tier Nintendo titles. No other game is even ALLOWED to be a better platformer. And hating on LBP just for being different is getting so old. I love the LBP game physics. If every game played like SMB it would be very boring so I'm glad that games like LBP exist. Nintendo fans on the other hand...need no other type of games...just one per genre and that's it.The fact that this question needs to be asked is a sad commentary on the modern gaming culture.charizard1605Why? How much customization does SMG have? compared to LBP.

That's not the thing, it just ain't fair to compare a platformer renowned for its platforming aspects to a game flowing with creativity from a passionate community with poor platforming aspects. Who the hell hates that game for being different, man, you get it all wrong sometimes.
This thread's comparison is all wrong, Lto_thaG, these games put emphasis on totally different things. It's like comparing the story aspect of a quality adventure game with a quality RPG. Both put emphasis on totally different things but intertwine at some, like a story. What game is going to put a ton of more attention to the story aspect? The adventure game, it's the closest thing to a book in gaming.

The platforming sells that game, meanwhile LBP prides itself on it's online sharing features.
Why? How much customization does SMG have? compared to LBP. Mozelleple112Would customization make Hour of Victory a good shooter? Or Street Cleaning Simulator a good street cleaning simulator? LBP's custom content isn't on the chopping block here. We are discussing their quality as platformers, not Garry's Mod.

I agree LBP plays quite a bit differently than most platformers. I submit that if it hadn't been different, it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is and it wouldn't inspire the venom it does from Mario fans (one doesn't see Super Meat Boy vs Super Mario threads).
2D platformers were once as popular as first person shooters are now, and like modern first person shooters, too many designers contented themselves with aping the bestselling games (everyone's now doing rpg style progression and killstreaks)rather than daring to do anything different. I suspect such timidty is part of the reason 2D platformers have declined so sharply in popularity.
If you think that every platformer should be like Mario, its perfectly reasonable for you to be content with NSMB and DKCR (both of which are praised for clinging to convention), but I tired of that formula a long time ago and even some who haven't tired of Mario (various creators have made Mario homages) are apparently anemable to the idea of something different. I like(d) Gran Turismo, but I never wanted every racing game to play exactly like it.

No.
Haha, I pre-empted your wrong answer with the power of editing!
Platform wise SMG definitely. But LBP has a very nice charm to it and is loads of fun. Super Mario 64 beats both though :).

NSMBW is the same platforming style we've been used too since SMB3. And the co-op was garbage. Floaty and more realistic physics then yes that's different. It's not the gamse fault you suck at it if you're being imprecise. The games AAA scores never mentioned imprecise platforming so I guess that's just your inability to play the game on it's own terms. Please Log In to post.
