Half Life 2 and Mass Effect
How anyone could say the Half Life 2 franchise has no depth in their story is completely rediculous.
Half life story is not over yet
MGS story too convoluted for me
Bioshock had only one major plot twist
[QUOTE="AgentA-Mi6"]Metal gear solid, the other 2 games lack depth in their stories.FerdMertzYou think they lack depth?
so what can you take away from half life?

thats what it reads in my post, Both are great games though specially hl. Dont get me wrong.
[QUOTE="Saturos3091"]Bioshock had a weak story, especially since it wasn't original in any way. What other game features and under water utopia overrun with crazy people hoped up on genetic mutators?
I'm going with other, but out of those 3, MGS.

So do you really think they lack depth or do you just think they lack depth compared to MGS? Also there more to a good story than just depth.........IMO the characters and pacing in HL are better than MGS. MGS has some cool characters but IMO theres a ton of wankers for such a seriously written story.........the fat guy on roller skates from MGS2, Raiden, Vamp.........Half Life and Bioshock are better written.
Bioshock has a better atmosphere and has nice depth to it overall
Half Life has an excellent lore, and is quite interesting with the mystery surrounding the combine
MGS may be more convulted, but some of the themes and the imaginitive characters are what make it awesome
But if i had my pick. I would take MGS.....
I find the concept and actual plot and characters of MGS to be better, but I feel Half-Life's in-game storyelling is more impressive than the use of cutscenes and is more revolutionary.
Half Life - storytelling (quite possibly one the best in gaming) - its story is far from over, so I wouldn't give it the story title at all. While there is so much lore and stuff such as the setting and characters enhance the story, there are so many questions (unlike MGS4), its clear that we'll have to wait until ep3, and probably HL3 are released until any judgements can be confirmed.
MGS - out of the 3 the best story no doubt. Very impressive.
Bioshock - Well after you meet Andrew Ryan the story plummets into pure mediocre-ness, and sports one of the worst endings I had seen in a game last yea. It commited story suicide as far as im concerned.
half-life? really? I thought the story was the least impressive part of half life. only the first 3 min of it was interesting. then it turned into a gov conspiracy bs with aliens. kinda lame.nippon_gamer
What? That never happens in Half Life. :| You probably didnt even understand the story.

What do you mean?sry if i was unclear. I mean explain the dept of half life's story beyond what it presents to you.
idk ive only played bioshock out of the 3 but, the ending in bioshock ruined it a bit, not to mention there were no cutscenes but the story was feasible. Microsoft1234
Well its depends if you got the good ending whether it sucked or not, and everything is told in either voice over the radio, dairy entries, or communication directly.

maybe i played it years ago. its a science experiment gone wild right? and the lab tries to contain the after math. something like that.
mgs: terrible story, i just stared at the screen everytime another ridiculous plot twist was revealed, preachy, overly dramatic, IN DIRE NEED OF AN EDITOR

We've argued in 2 other threads already, all of them on the same topic im tired its 2:30 am here.
Anyway... Mgs has better plot twists and historical background for the "fictional" parts of the story.
Personally i find the MGS story the best of the 3 games listed... Half-life though was/is great too...
Half Life 2. The first one had an interesting story because I like Area-51/aliens/men in black kinda stuff. but HL2 totally blew me away. the Combine were a genuinely interesting enemy to learn about and fight. the story of Half Life 2 was the kinda 80's sci-fi aliens and freedom fighters and conspiracy stuff I've eaten up since I was a kid.
Bioshock was also good. but it didn't grab me like Half Life did. But it did further my love of a completely first person narrative.
Metal Gear . . . never been a fan of the story. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like a plot twist, but holy s***. there'es such a thing as one too many. I'm not sure which story was easier to follow, MGS's or that f****d up movie Memento. MGS3 was probably the best Story wise, since it was the first chronologically, so it somehow made more sence.
MGS wins. HL has a good story specially for a FPS and everything on it grows on you but that's it.
Bioshock's plot wasn't rly good, the story telling sucked (if you can call those diaries at least that) both endings were almost the same just opposite and I didn't like either one.

I would have to give the nod to Mgs, just by a bit over HL series. HL never really made be cry, was close though at the end of Ep. 2 :) But Mgs4 well lol I couldn't hold it in any longer lol. Love both and can't wait for ep. 3 or HL 3.
Want to know more about the HL series? You better be the rich and prominant to find out more about this world :)

that you didn't have to sit through 40 minute cut scenes that made no sense and actually got to play a good game?the story was concise but it was there (unlike the convoluted mess that is MGS4, i mean do you really want to have played through all the previous games to even get a vague idea of whats even going on?)
i personally think they purposely kept the plot points to a minimum as not to fracture the gameplay, a lesson that MGS needs in spades, nay, truck fulls.
