Between SMG2 and RDR, which will win game of the year?

These are the two most likely candidates thus far. SMG2 would be the obvious choice with a perfect 10, but Demon's Souls win last year kind of threw the higher rating argument out the window. So will SMG2 take it, or will it be an upset and RDR will win, OR will there be an even bigger upset and a game like ME2 or GOW3 win? Place your bets. I would go with RDR, but that's just cause I havent played SMG2, and I usually like to go for the underdog anyways.

If it's just between those two, Super Mario Galaxy 2 would win, and I think it's better. RDR is a great game too, a bit repetitive and not quite as fun as SMG2.

But we can't say it's between those two obviously, there's already Mass Effect 2 as the other big contender, with Starcraft II coming as well as Halo: Reach. Gamespot also loved Kirby: Epic Yarn at E3 so you never know how they'll feel when it comes out. There's a long way to go before we can even guess GOTY.

I didn't ignore it. I said I haven't SEEN it, because I didn't know about it. Do I need to go adventuring around the interwebs gathering information so I can make you happy? Atleast I was honest. I could have just been like over half the other people in SW and pretend to know what I'm talking about.

I would like to see GOW3 win, but I know that's not gonna happen.

It's gotta be Mass Effect 2. I haven't played any other console game this year that's on the same level.

As much as id like them to, i just dont see 2D retail games scoring AAA on gamespot anymor, no matter how good they are. 8.5s easily though.

I hope it wont be Mass Effect 2 I mean its not a BAD game its GREAT but I feel that both SMG2 and RDR are just better

Didn't think RDR was that great, so probably SMG2 because it scored a 10. Yes, Demon's Souls won GotY last year with a 9, but that was ridiculous (even though I think DS deserved it). Why rate a game higher if it isn't the better game? If a 10 doesn't win GotY, scores here at Gamespot will mean absolutely nothing to me. With all that said, Mass Effect 2 deserved GotY this far, while my personal favourite is probably Monster Hunter Tri. I expect Reach to be my favourite in the end though.

SMG2 will be a candidate for sure, but having said that the year is not over yet.

I doubt either will get GOTY. GOTY is decided by all of GS' staff. Just because Tom thought SMG was 10/10 doesn't mean the rest of GS' staff will.

Another thing, just because a game gets 10/10 doesn't quite mean it is better than other games. It just means the games lacked any problems. For example, Mass Effect 2 (haven't played it, so don't take what I say literally) could have been an amazing game, but just had some technical problems or some simple flaws in game design which lowered its score. Despite these problems, one could say that the game was still better than other games that scored higher. Believe it or not, most people don't care for simple problems that bump a game from 10/10 to say 9/10.

But of those 2, I would say SMG 2 easily because RDR has a very bad ending IMO. In the end though, I think it will be down to Halo Reach, StarCraft, Mass Effect 2, and a surprise hit if there is one.

RDR was boring as hell and repetative. Go here kill this person go there kill that person. I'm having more fun with Donkey Kong Jungle Beat then RDR.
