Between SMG2 and RDR, which will win game of the year?

i had such an emotional attachment to John, which made the single player incredible.

i doubt i can have an emotional attachment to Mario

so im going with RDR

I doubt either will get GOTY. GOTY is decided by all of GS' staff. Just because Tom thought SMG was 10/10 doesn't mean the rest of GS' staff will.

Another thing, just because a game gets 10/10 doesn't quite mean it is better than other games. It just means the games lacked any problems. For example, Mass Effect 2 (haven't played it, so don't take what I say literally) could have been an amazing game, but just had some technical problems or some simple flaws in game design which lowered its score. Despite these problems, one could say that the game was still better than other games that scored higher. Believe it or not, most people don't care for simple problems that bump a game from 10/10 to say 9/10.

But of those 2, I would say SMG 2 easily because RDR has a very bad ending IMO. In the end though, I think it will be down to Halo Reach, StarCraft, Mass Effect 2, and a surprise hit if there is one.

This is not true, which is why 10 is now Prime instead of Perfect.

I believe very strongly that SMG2 will win. According to the review, it is the standard against which all 3D platformers must now be judged. That's a very powerful advantage.

Out of those two RDR deserves the vote imo, Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't that impressive in any particular area, and to me it isn't all that fun. With RDR you get the best of both worlds a near-perfect singleplayer and a near-perfect multi-player than Rockstar is more than willing to keep up and make patches to when necessary in order to keep cheaters out and things flowing nicely. Still Mass Effect 2 may very well be the best game this year. Honestly the game is just amazing and you get attached to characters in the Mass Effect series like no other video game. I really think Mass Effect 2 deserves it, but being released in January is not going to help its chances. As for GOW3, an 8 hr hack n slash, however pretty isn't GOTY material for me.

Some other games to keep on the table are Fallout: New Vegas, Halo Reach, GT5 (if its released this year honestly who knows), and I'm gonna go out on a serious limb and say...Fable III. IK, Ik it probably won't be deserving and Fable II is no where near deserving, but if Peter Molyneaux actually comes through (which I doubt he will, but he just might this time...) then Fable III could be real GOTY material...still as of right now I'll be surprised if Fable III even scores AAA.

I think Super Mario Galaxy 2will will based on unanimous praise fromcritics, although I don't personally agree with their opinion. I think SMG was a great game, but with flaws I really won't get into too much. It was basically more of the same, and it was actually intended to be an expansion to SMG called SMG more or 1.5 before Nintendo made it into a sequel. I think Red Dead was a fantastic game so I would personally want that to win, although if Super Mario Galaxy and SMG2 were one game, and released at the same time I would pick that. Like I said, it's almost impossible for Gamespot and IGN not to give SMG2 GOTY, as they both gave it a perfect 10. That would be quite odd if they didn't.

Without playing it, SMG2. RDR was nothing amazing, it was very good, maybe even great, but nothing spectacular. This year, I've had more fun with GOW3, Mass Effect 2, and dare I say Just Cause 2. RDR was boring IMHO.

They could have easily just given SMG2 a 9.5 and leave it at that, but they didn't. They awarded it with a score as high as they get. GS clearly thinks of SMG2 as something special.

It's definitely between Red Dead, God of War 3, or Mass Effect 2. A mario game(is it the 20th now?) or a gorgeous greek epic, or a beautiful western open world game, or a space odyssey the likes of star wars?? Mario Galaxy GTFO

Why would galaxy 2 GTFO?? It got better scores than red dead, god of war 3 and mass effect 2. If anything its those 3 games that should GTFO........well acutally i shouldnt say that, red dead and god of war 3 are simply awesome.

Neither of them, ME2 should grab GOTY

I believe its to early to tell. so many more games coming out this year that may be better than both.
