Its my understanding that NVidia is pretty much done with the creation of the Maxwell GTX 800 series (the 20nm GPU's due next year). All there waiting for is TSMC to be able to mass produce 20nm chips (should be around summer time).

they haven't said. But a lot of rumours pointing at $600, 280x is $300 though

also been seeing you get bf4 with it and it's tied to the gold tier which helps

they already have their competition out. It is the 700 series. Their next series will compete with next AMD series (20nm) not this series. It looks like AMD won on the final bout of the 28nm GPU

Yeah 20nm is going to completely change the game compared to these cards. AMD and Nvidia 20nm chips are going to destroy these cards.

Impressive, but out of my league in terms of how much I'm willing to pay for a GPU. Considering that and the fact that the other cards in the Hawaii lineup are just rebranded HD 7000 series cards, I decided to get an HD 7970, which I received and installed today. However, kudos to whoever gets that card; I'm pretty sure they'll have an incredible multimonitor gaming experience.

Not all it's cracked up to be. I finally had to switch back to a single panel because too many developers had the attitude that as long as the frame buffer is 5760x1080, they'd done their jobs. Drawing bugs in BF3, vehicle FoV lock in PS2 and Hawken, aim bug in AC3... apparently "it's up and running" is good enough on PC... so much for those high standards I keep hearing about.

Probably in Q2 or early Q3 since that's the expected timeframe for 20nm production.

Nvidia did a roadmap around the release of Kepler and it said early 2014. Rumors started to spread about a possible late 2013 release and nvidia denied it by releasing another road March of this year that confirmed 2014 but they couldn't keep the early promise since TSMC is a little behind on there 20nm production schedule (its looking like later Q2/Q3, so basically early 2nd half of 2014).

Why is it that both companies, AMD and Nvidia, release cards with new sized dies around the same time? It seems quite coincidental considering the fact that they're competitors. Also, why are they both aiming for the same die size anyway? Why don't they have different goals?

4K is a waste of money.  1440p delivers the best distance/definition advantage for your money, unless you want to be at most 2 feet away from your display or being 3 feet away from a 50" display.

It's not them who manufacture the chips. They can only come up with stuff that can be manufactured in full scale and 20nm will happen around Q2 next year.

Aw, that sucks, quite a wait for Nvidia. Really hope 290X brings something impressive to the table, would pick it up as soon as some nice custom models are out.

So, why isn't one shooting for 19nm, while the other shoots for 20nm? Why the exact same size?

I don't think that's how it works

Explain to me how it works, please.

I honestly don't know, but there are only certain sizes to die shrinks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_shrink
