Metacritic: RE5, Hyped AAA, currently 85 (AA) MadWorld, Hyped AAA, currently 86 (AA)... i'd also note that Gamespot scored it one whole standard deviation below the norm. They and Eurogamer are the only scores that fall outside of one standard deviation. These two companies have a bone to pick with the title that nobody else in the industry has. Halo Wars, Hyped AA, Currently 82 (A) Empirte Total War, Hype Unknown, Currently 91 (AAA)... how is AAA a flop? This is one those Nintendo things where they release AAA titles in all of their core franchises and people are like, "Wow, Nintendo doesn't make any good games. They've abandoned their core audience" Fear 2, Hyped AA, Currently 79 (barely less than A) It is my opinion that a flop is more than just a game not living up to its potential. A flop is the extreme version. A flop is like a hyped AAA ending up less than A. The biggest disappointment is Fear 2, but even then it's only 6 points off from what it was targeted to be. There is no Too Human or Haze thats like 15 points off.
Halo Wars, no question. The game was looking to be around AA, others hyped it AAA, others said it was going to 'revolutionise' the genre for console platforms - these folks begun hyping it an ungodly amount. And it didn't even scratch A here.... While the review was outside the meta score, and harsh, it sure as hell is the biggest flop this year. A surprising one at that..... Come to think of it Empire, Resi 4, and Mad World were surprising. FEAR2 though.... nah.
Halo Wars has always been wishfull thinking by Hardcore lemmings, until reality set in by the actual release of the game.
Mad World is a Wii game, who cares :D.
Resident Evil 5,the fifth part of one of the most celebrated franchises ever gets less then triple AAA status. Most definately the biggest flop thus far, it's like Killzone 2 receiving a 8.

Was there an official hype thread? There was, stickied and everything, but I dont think anyone ever really noted it down at the time. I'm almost positive it was AA though, no one would be stupid enough to hype an unproven IP (let alone its on the Wii) to be AAA. I hyped AA and it flopped. No doubt it will live up to my expectations though.
Although the year is only 3 months old and we can't say for sure. It is right now and will probably end up being Halo Wars at 6.5/10 because it has Halo in the title which has always scored above 9/10 and is the biggest title on 360.
I think Halo Wars is much better than a 6.5 but to anyone that plays a PC RTS(you know the real RTS games....oh yeah i went there)
Halo Wars always looked and I REPEAT.....AVERAGE.....sorry, my reasons for buying it is because its simple fun and its Halo Lore, take that Halo Lore away and i never would have touched the game.
Empire Total War and Resident Evil 5 are extremely good games.
Madworld is alot of fun, its biggest flaw is that at 50 bucks its a ripoff for 5 hours of gameplay.(it has to be damn near flawless to merit a high score for 5 hours of gameplay).
FEAR 2 is my biggest FLOP. that game is GARBAGE> way to go Monolith, way to F up Fear.....
For one there is already a topic like this. And this one all you say is Topic. Way to contribute. Just close this one. Its worthless. And the biggest flop is Mad World. Hyped AAA and got a 7.5. A lot of people expected Halo Wars to be bad. So did I.

Not sure what world you came from, but Hi, welcome to Earth.
Resident Evil 5 is easily the biggest one so far. Halo Wars wasn't made by Bungie, and while nobody expected it to flop as badly as it did, it was always a wild card. Resident Evil 5 was the expected sure-shot contendor for GOTY, going to rival RE2 for best in series, second coming of Christ status and it didn't deliver. Dead Space > RE5. Crazy.
I think people have different ideas on what constitutes a flop. It isn't how much the game misses it's hype by, it's also how big the game was to begin with. Too Human getting 5.5 is a way bigger flop than Onechanbara getting a 2.5. If Final Fantasy XIII, Halo ODST or God of War III end up getting eight-fived it could be the biggest flop in the history of the world.

the difference is that Halo Wars is a spinoff. I mean we don't judge FF by chrystal chronicles or X-2 or god knows how many spinoffs that franchise has had. Also it wasn't a bungie game...now if Halo 3: ODST got a 6.5 OMG the SW explosion would be huge....
