[QUOTE="jethrovegas"]

I'm pissed that it takes place in Rapture again.

Seems to me that the new devs felt insecure about going in a new direction, which is a goddamn shame, because one of the best things about BioShock was how fresh and unspoiled it felt.

Rapture was a virgin world, just waiting to be ****ed, and now they're gonna bring the gal out again and turn her into a cheap ass whore.

Why can't they do that 'island cult deprogrammer' bull **** that Levine had planned orginally? That sounded cool as hell.

Nerd_Man

Maybe it's easier playing a different FPS than complaining about what Bioshock is...

Well, it didn't have to be that way.

Hold on, hold on, hold on.

1. I loved the original Bioshock.

2. I'm complaining about what I'm seeing from the upcoming sequel (ie, a lack of the "fresh factor" that helped to make the first one so good).

3. Where's the problem?

Ok, lemme get this straight... You want the sequel to take place somewhere else than an underwater city? That's asking for too much, if so. The atmosphere is one of the things that made the original great, and I don't see why they would want to change it so much as making it take place elsewhere. It's like telling Mario to make his next game on a random tropical island instead of the Mushroom Kingdom....... Oh wait

Why?

Why can't you have great atmosphere in another location besides an underwater city?

Where is it written?

it wouldnt make any sense in comparison to the original, thats why. it would be like making mgs4 take place in space just because the whole land thing got old after 3 games.

It's not impossible to have atmosphere in a place other than Rapture.

It would make plenty of sense.

There were unique and original things about BioShock besides the "ZOMG guys, we're totally underwater" effect.

Sorry, I forgot to include "In my opinion".

But seriously, Bioshock is what it is. I don't see why anyone would be asking for it to change itself into something else completely different than what it is. The underwater city was one of the signature aspects of the original game.

If you really have a problem for why they didn't change the atmosphere, you could easily just play a different game, like I originally said - because it already sounds like you are just asking for a different game, BUT with the same name..

Honestly, the Big Daddy part kills it for me. What can really take on a Big Daddy? Yeah, they showed that the Big Sister was strong enough, but all her moments will most likely be scripted. That will be boring.

but the way bioshock was written and how things took place did not lend itself to any other areas besides underwater. now, if bioshock 2 sets it up so you can go to an island or something, then of course i would expect the next one to take place out of water. but nothing was mentioned in the first one, so it just wouldnt make sense to throw everything in a different random location.

One of the signature aspects. A change of location should not completely change the essence of the game. If it does, then there was something wrong in the first place.

you arent a big daddy like the ones you saw in the first one, you are much more "human" in build than they were. so you might be more frail or whatnot.

What, because they used scripted moments for effect in the demo level? Or is that just a wild guess?

No, I'm asking for a SEQUEL with the same sort of bold originality, the same sort of ridiculous, visceral combat, the same sort of wonderful writing, the same sort of willingness to explore interesting and fresh thematic material, and the same sort of exceptional production qualities.

BioShock had a hell of alot more going for it than the fact that you could look outside of Rapture's windows and see the ocean.

Don't get me wrong, it's a guess, but with a little backing from the previous game. The original Bioshock had many scripted events that then resorted to just the usual AI that you used through the game. I can't see them changing the formula too much for this then. Sure, you might be fighting the Big Sister, but I'm guessing it's the lost boss fight all over again... that which in my opinion was sort of dull.

Previously you said (Or someone said, anyways) that in the original game the atmosphere was something new and original... But now it's not; and therefore, the sequel should not be in Rapture now. I don't think that was the point of introducing Rapture to all of us - I don't think the main intent of trying to look and feel new was what the creators really cared about - they wanted to tell an interesting story and create a franchise out of it. Now they have, and have perfect opportunities to really let us see Rapture in more ways than we ever have with this sequel.
I don't think the point was to try to be fresh, but you seem to be stuck up over the original because it was fresh, and now the company has to go elsewhere bringing newer things that would not make any sense to the series.

That might not have been the point, but that's how that **** went down. I was there, I remember.

Which brings us back to square one: I want more fresh, but they are not going to give it to me because they are giantic whores and they are scared of fresh like a child is scared of the dark; therefore, I am pissed.

That's all I was ever saying.

From the video, it looks completely linear which is very disappointing. It's only the first 10 minutes, so it might change later on.

There is nothing wrong with being linear. Whats this obsession with non-linearity? Non-linearity usually comes with an incredibly crappy story attached. Games can be linear AND be good...:?

...Then play a different game.... Jeez. No one is holding a gun to your head saying that you have to buy this game when it comes out. If you really can't stand the fact that it's in Rapture again, then that's fine. You don't need to complain about it - just play something else.

Bioshock's main character pretty much IS Rapture. Rapture had way more emotions than a big Daddy and the character you played as combined. So to say the sequel can't have Rapture is like saying a Mario game Can't have Mario, or a Metal Gear Solid that can't have Snake, and so on.

There is nothing wrong with it being linear, but when the game lets us outside the level design should feel more open or else it just feels completely unnatural.

That still doesn't change the fact that YOU'RE A BIG DADDY That alone is an atmosphere breaker especially compared to the first Bioshock where you were just some ass hat with a lame tattoo who was lucky enough to survive a plane crash

I hate myself for not being able to get excited over this because technically it looks wonderful. But I just don't like the artstyle, it comes off as too cartoony and soft and nothing feels scary, don't like the color scheme, the interface screams stupid like it was a doodled by a retard they need to remake it sharper and smaller for PC, and hate the sounds and the talking radio kind of story telling if you can call it that. But on the positive side, the shooting sucked in the first one, that melee drill thing looked a lot more fun.

A lot of people hate the new developer, not the series. Sort of like how everyone automatically hates the Treyarch CoD games.

Well, no one wants to play this game on hardware that is ancient histOry.

Ownage approved!

Anyway, Bioshock 2 looks damn good. Pretty much the best an UE3 game can. I hope there are destructible environments in this one.

half life 2 has crap level design too dude. bioshock seriously level design wise nothing on duke nukem 3d, none of the interactivity or secret area's or exploration. you cant even go underwater in the beggining of the game, everything feels like it's a rail shooter basically. the levels just dont have anything cool to them. if you buy bioshock 2 you support the death of duke nukem forever.

1. DNF got enough funding. It was in development for 12 friggin years!

2. No

3. It is based on Ayn Rand philosophy. In no way is it dorky

4. Nope

5. Hacking minigames, plasmids with the environment ( putting someone alight, then electrocuting them when in water), telekinesis, etc.

6. Maybe so, but that wasn't the point of the first game

half life 2 has crap level design too dude. bioshock seriously level design wise nothing on duke nukem 3d, none of the interactivity or secret area's or exploration. you cant even go underwater in the beggining of the game, everything feels like it's a rail shooter basically. the levels just dont have anything cool to them. if you buy bioshock 2 you support the death of duke nukem forever.

Troll post is Troll. Do you really have nothing better to do? Well to everyone who might actually think this. NOT every game has to be oblivion, not open world =/= Crap. Why do people say it has "Bad level design" if it is not a sandbox?! Hell people did it with The Witcher, im glad that game was not trying to oblivion, it was far better. Hell people even criticized STALKER for not being one big world.... What is everyone's big obsession with turning every game into oblivion/GTA ?

I agree with this post. Not every game has to be the same.

Also, i would say that 'The Witcher' is 'semi-sandbox'.

Publisher Take-Two Interactive has filed suit against what's left of 3D Realms (formely Apogee Ltd.) for the dev's inability to deliver Duke Nukem Forever. Take-Two claims that an agreement to finish the game was violated when 3D Realms shut down last week. "Apogee continually delayed the completion date for Duke Nukem Forever," stated Take-Two in the filing, "Apogee repeatedly assured Take-Two and the video-gaming community that it was diligently working toward competing development of the PC Version of Duke Nukem Forever." Take-Two paid $12 million to former Nukem publisher Infogrames for publishing rights to the game in nearly a decade ago. According to the publisher, a second unspecified agreement was struck between Take-Two and 3D Realms in 2007, evidence that will likely be crucial in where the decision lands http://www.examiner.com/x-3707-LA-Gaming-News-Examiner~y2009m5d15-3D-Realms-sued-by-TakeTwo-over-unfinished-Duke-Nukem-Forever

IM NOT SAYING ALL GAMES HAVE TO BE OPEN WORLD. im saying the level design isnt multileveled enough/vertical just lacks cool things to them attention to detail or interactvity here's a example of crap level design lol you go into a corner but but cant actually touch the wall because a invisible barrier is keeping you from going all way in the corner.

Prey has a long and storied development history that spans over a decade, starting in 1995. Since then it has been through several iterations of the game design and software technology before the production version of the game was finally released in 2006.

dude take two only spent like 12 million sony spent more making killzone2. that took 5 years, wow duke took a big 7 more. yet cost less and using more outdated tech. trust me do you need for me to load up the first level and point out all kinds of invisible barriers? the level's feel limited, the game just sucks that's what it is, it's not original, wow who's never heard of the little mermade lol.
