[QUOTE="Planeforger"][QUOTE="1carus"]This, IMO is the list:
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom
Duke Nukem 3d
Half-Life
Thief
System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Half Life 2and, if all goes to plan, the next game to enter that list will be Bioshock. That's what this game means to the industry.
1carus
That's the part I'm worried about - Bioshock will have to be pretty bloody amazing for it to live up to the other games on that list.
Then again, even if it it's only half as good as those cl'assics, it'll still be one of the best FPS games of the year.
Look, it's gotten this far, and since HL2, I haven't even considered any game released to date to look this influential. So far, the game looks incredibly impressive, and the few reviews released have shown some sign of the game being the quality of that list.
I agree, its been since HL2 almost 3 years ago, that a first person shooters single player campaign looks this well put together, the lead dev, ken levine, knows how to make awesome games[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="Ragashahs"]is looks like a great game but nothing innovative. kinda like a better version of oblivionen_V
You quite obviously know nothing about the game.
so whats so innovative about bioshock? what does it do thats never been done before?
There has never been a game with so much freedom and choices that affect gameplay like BioShock, besides, who wants to play as an old spy who watches p0rn, is dying of cancer because of smoking, and loves to touch bawls? :|[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="yuna707"][QUOTE="Planeforger"][QUOTE="1carus"]This, IMO is the list:

Dude, how dare youput Hl2 up there, thats sacrilege...
Its very worthy for that list. Its the best FPS since Half Life, and still the best FPS until today ;)
You really need to fix that list if you want to be taken seriously as a PC gamer:
- quake 2/3
- Return to castle wolfenstein
- no one lives for ever 2
... Fix the list and do it NOW!
As someone else has already stated, RTCW and NOLF were excellent games, but they're not the influential games that the rest of these games share. And OMG how could I have forgotten Quake. You're absolutely correct. Quake certainly deserves a place on the list.
And don't question my loyalty to being a PC Gamer - I'm certainly one through and through.
Edited List:
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom
Quake
Duke Nukem 3d
Half-Life
Thief
System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Half Life 2
[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="imprezawrx500"][QUOTE="skrat_01"]debunked by the developers already, once they are done with the pc version, they will bring it to consoles. I just read articles today on xbox 360 fanboy and ps3 fanboy, where crytek said crysis can be done on consoles, its only a matter of time. No it will be a different game - a spinoff.[QUOTE="Danthegamingman"][QUOTE="Spartan-4295"]but crysis is only for pc. the developers said they had no plans for concoleInsaneBasura
The PS3 and 360s hardware is not good enough to ru the game.... I mean with 256mb PS3 system ram and 360 512mb shared ram you would be dreaming.
It'll be like Far Cry to Far Cry Instincts - it was a spinoff that didnt retain anything that made the original great.
Heh and Far Cry 2 is comming to PC next year... looks freaking awesome, and like Crysis will defitnaly not run on console.
funny how console are only around what runs farcry maxed but with half the ram. I have yet to see a game the size of farcry on "next gen" consoles. Even back in 2004 you could blow the environments to bits which you can't do in x360s geow.
Well it all depends on the engines limitations and the console itself. It will be interesting to see if Battlefield Bad company on 360 can deliver large battlefields with 'completely deuctible enviroments' and stellar visuals. I strongly doubt it.
:?
DICE has built Frostbite from the ground up for that very reason. Large-scaled battles with destructible envrionments and detailed visuals. You have seen the videos and everything right? The engine and the game has been up and running for a very long time. Critics have played the game. What is there to doubt?
And impreza seems to have forgotten about Just Cause, which would have the largest gameworld ever (1024km2).
Obiously Crysis will have to be scaled back, but don't go talking no crap about how consoles can't handle these type of games.
Sure ive seen the scripted (adn funny) game trailer. Where are some gameplay vids? And Just cause was not the biggest gameplay map either.............. by a longshot.
And its a3rdps not a FPS. Don even get me started on the drastic technical differences of either genre.

Wether you like it or not, Bioshock is the game this year most likely to get AAAA. I'm not saying it will but it has the highest chance of all games this year. DA_B0MB
I said the exact same thing a couple of days ago.

Honestly I agree aswell. Its the first strongly story driven FPS in ages, and from the makers of the System Shock series - one legendary in the PC realm.
Hell I cant wait until Bioshock gets a co-op mod on PC - like System Shock 2. :)
no.
it FAILs in the setting... its like the 1940's UNDERWATER? with a scubadiver in a old metal suit? with magic and injections that make you throw ice and fire? it FAILS hard in the atmosphere. thats what i cant stand about bioshock.. the game makes no sense

Ugh. Worst post ever.
I don't think Bioshock will be bad, but the gameplay seems kinda eh in my opinion. It's a very nice concept, but it reminds me of a FPS/Elders Scroll hybrid on crack. I like the idea of spells and stuff, but I saw a fiew gameplay videos, and just the CONSTANT use of spells vs actually guns was just too overpowering the "FPS" genre. It seems more like a RPG (like Oblivion), because it seems more open ended in that sense instead of just having a selection of guns.
Once again, I'm not saying it's going to be bad, it just doesn't suite my fancy.
Oh and Bioshock won't be the "best fps" to date because it doesn't have MP. HL 2 was a really good game but it also had HL Deathmatch (along with all the Source mods), but a SP game alone can't hold a game up. It's just how the majority of gamers are these days. MP = Gameplay Longevity.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention, I do love the elemental properties that they have in the game (e.g. water turning into ice).
Story also seems great, but idk, I wouldn't mind playing it to see if I'm just completely wrong about my assumptions.

HL2's vanilla out-of-the-box multiplayer was horrible. The mods helped its multiplayer greatly, but don't mistake it, HL2 is considered the best FPS ever because of its single-player. Bioshock can absolutely go down as the best FPS to date without a multiplayer mode. A multiplayer mode isn't required for every FPS-type game, and nobody can give me a logical rason as to why it should be. A multiplayer mode for Bioshock in particular wouldn't make a lick of sense.
The guys at Starbreeze literally threw in a multiplayer mode into The Darkness, and admitted it was just a throw-in, because they were annoyed at all of the people (this includes Gamespot) who said that Chronicles of Riddick should've had multiplayer. It shouldn't have, especially since it would have only hurt the single-player. Same thing with Bioshock. There's no point in having multi for the sake of multi. Give me a masterpiece single-player over good single-player and average multi any day.
HL2 dethmatch was very fun. It was the standard affair DM - or Team DM, but the physics system and weapons like the Graw gun made it awesome - but not extremely memorable.
And CS Source was free with HL2 it too!
But yes HL2 is remembered for its SP.
And yes MP isnt needed for all FPS games... Starbreeze certainly did tack on MP - they could have defitnaly gone without it and focused on the games sp development... And Riddick didnt have MP if my memory serves me correct, and that didnt hurt the score.

I know Bioshock will have a really good story, but I dont think SP can hold any game up to be the best game of any genre (unless there are unlockables). There are very FEW games that are SP only that I will actually play ever again and those are RPG's. If I pick up anything else thats just SP I won't play it more than 5 times...except for RE4...>_> unlocked everything...Hey..its the best game I have for GC lol.

Well then your in luck because Bioshock has some RPG elements plasmids are used to almost level you up and you can fully customise weapons plus with the huge amount of ways you can play a single level and that its a sandbox game.
I dont think theres one person that will play this game just once.
Agreed. Harsh mag, and PC standards.... This game will be very good.Post above says PC Gamer magazine in the UK gave Bioshock 95%. Now I know that is a harsh magazine. The game is basically going to be incredible, no doubt.
elmoXPXP
And its co-Aussie made! WOOOOOT! :D
/\ The lack of MP is a worry - especially for console versions - that wont be getting any mods - that will add MP or Co-op...
But Shock 1 and 2 didnt have MP so, it could possibly get away with it....
skrat_01
I dunno, if you have seen gameplay vids, Bioshock ain't a tactical shooter like saaay Rainbow Six, not a run and gun game like saaay Resistance, not a total chaos game like saaay Call of Duty, trust me when i say Bioshock wouldn't work as a online game, anyways do you really want to wait another six months for this game to come out? Bioshock is kind of that one man experience, that one man descision, one man story, the game is made for a single player experience, it'll get away with it trust me.
EDIT: Hey look, OXM UK loved it so much they gave it a 10....nah i'll wait for the Gamespot review, those guys gave Gears a 8....

Hmm yes but that still doesent mean it wouldent be fun co-op. Shock 2 is great co-op as is Doom 3, HL2 and Far Cry - all done with mods. Its simply better than having a friend looking over your shoulder ;)As for the reviews, i dont really trust 'official' magazine reviews - OXM here in Australia gave Halo 2 11/10 - I kid you not (tossers), but PC Gamer gave Bioshock 95% - and they are very critical. As for GeOW 8/10 I kinda agree with the score - too a degree.
