I thought Atlas was Scottish? :?
And to say it's linear is crazy. There's so much exploring to do. Turn the big yellow arrow off.

I kept it on, it's not like it forces you to go where it's pointing. Plus, it's usefull for not getting lost when I finally decide to move on.
It feels like you are led/forced through levels in a totally linear way.
I didn't feel drawn into or connected to the story or characters at all.
You can't really see what is going on or where you are going half the time.
The bloodlooks rubbish.
I was constantly picking up items but never gave a hoot what they were for and the game never made me feel like I should give a hoot.
Trying to shoot the characters doesn't feel very satisfying when they always do that stupid lunge at you.
The Irish guy that keeps talking to you is bloody annoying.
etc etc etc
I really think this is one of those examples of a game that is just completely over rated and yet everyone is buying into this hype. This game doesn't touch classics like Goldeneye, Halo or even the original Doom games in my opinion (in terms of sheer fun and game flow etc).
It does not deserve the scores it has been getting...

bioshock is not a bad game. the first 30 min or so, i didnt think much of it either. but as i played more, it became a lot of fun later in the game. i dunt see nething bad abt this game. its fun and i think everyone wud like it.
The game is not really linear IMO.
This game is just another classic case of popular thing gettin' bashed....
I still don't understand why no one metions the massive amounts of glitches (that I experienced at least). I couldn't go two minutes without seeing/experiencing a glitch.
The game is great; a solid 9.0, just way over hyped.
Bioshock is a brilliant game but it does have its flaws.
I myself am near the end of the game and whilst its been great fun and engrossing, fighting the never ending hords of splicers is getting tediously annoying.
The story, graphics, weapons gameplay is all top notch but..i odn't know i cant put my finger on it. The splicers are really starting to piss me off.
You didn't finish the game did you?It feels like you are led/forced through levels in a totally linear way.

No, There's no way he did, there are other things hidden in that post that show that....

Obviously I haven't finished it, but I have now played it for a few hours at least and have got through a couple of levels and played against a few different enemy types, including Big Daddies and the doctor boss, and tried a few of the plasmid upgrades, like fire, electricity and telekinesis etc, and it still hasn't blown me away.
I really don't think I am wrong here when a game I have played for hours etc has still not drawn me in that much and still doesn't actually feel that fun to play in general. The story is becoming more interesting and the game is starting to open up a bit, in terms of levels, weapons and so on,so the experience is getting a little better, but still...
i agree, i knof regret buying it... i reviewed and i gave it a 9, but then i kept playing, the game like didnt change, every single room looked exactly the same, and the combat was really really lame, so i regret giving that high of a score.. and i hated the fact that you have to fight robots, they are so annoying, after a while, i wasnt having any fun with it anymore.Trigger_Hppy
I don't understand... when were you fighting robots? Didn't you hack the camera and/or bots to turn them on their owners and defeat the big, bad Big Daddy? This was the best part of the game, the ecology and the relationship between NPCs and the enviorment. How did you let robots attack you when you have infinite ways to get around the problem? I'm guessing you were treating it like a simple shooter, and not really diving into the world. But whatever, opinions are fine.
And did he just say that every room looked exactly the same?
Yes, many rooms have similar elements, but the rooms have much more variety than most games.
if you think the game is too dark maybe you set the brightness too low.
p.s. the game gets better as you go along especially when you upgrade the weapons- at first the shotgun is slow & not very powerfu with with the damage & ROF upgrades its really strong. the tommygun rocks after u get the recoil reduction upgrade because then u can actually hit what ur aiming at.
You say it's over-rated, yet you haven't paid any attention to the story, plasmids, art direction, and THE FACT THAT YOU CAN ADJUST THE BRIGHTNESS.
Jesus, it's like you're trying to hate the game by doing everything wrong.
It feels like you are led/forced through levels in a totally linear way. Having played it for longer now I realise it's not quite as linear, but somehow it steels feels a little tooo forced, and I don't think the design choice to have lots of dark really helps you appreciate the world properly or want to wander around too much to explore the work because it is kinda hard to know where you are going with all the darkness and stuff.
I didn't feel drawn into or connected to the story or characters at all. It's a little bit more interesting now, a few hours in (fought a couple Big Daddies, fought the medical boss guy etc), but it's still not that compelling to me.
You can't really see what is going on or where you are going half the time. Still pretty much the case. I just don't like the overall darkness and inability to see a lot of the levels, and I think the areas are still mostly too small and corridor like, which makes the game feel more restricted and linear than it probably is.
The bloodlooks rubbish. Still true (talking about the bloodthatsplats when you shoot an enemy)but I can live with it, just.
I was constantly picking up items but never gave a hoot what they were for and the game never made me feel like I should give a hoot. Getting a bit more interesting but really only the power ups like electricity, fire, telekinesis etc, not all the other stuff that still isn't that interesting to me yet.
Trying to shoot the characters doesn't feel very satisfying when they always do that stupid lunge at you. Still the same and it just doesn't feel like you can dodge them much or use cover ****tactics to pop out take shots and hide again etc. You just take hits until you kill them, most of the time. I prefere it in games like Doom, Halo etc, where if you are good you can pretty much avoid any kind of shot from any character.
The Irish guy that keeps talking to you is bloody annoying. He's not as bad at first but I would rather he wasn't there at all or at least that I could turn him off. He just pulls me out of the game and I don't actually get why he is there anyway. (must have missed the reason at the start).
etc
I really think this is one of those examples of a game that is over rated. It's okay, and design wise (in terms of the world and some of the story stuff etc) it is really good, but it still doesn't feel that great to actually play, which is not a good thing. This game doesn't touch ****cs like Goldeneye, Halo or even the original Doom games in my opinion (in terms of sheer fun and game flow etc).
It still say it does not deserve the high scores it has been getting.
Right now I would give it:
Graphics =9 (beautiful art 5tyle far but too hard toreally see and appreciate much of the world properly, or enjoy moving through it,and the blood and a few other bits are a bit rubbish)
Gameplay = 6.5 (It's not really that fun to actually play but the story and progression does make you want to play on, or maybe its because you guys have hyped it so much that I'm just waiting for it to blow me away, and for the amazing stuff to happen)
Oeverall = 7.5 (I live by the gameplay over graphics mantra, although I do love great graphics and want them, but in this case it's more about the looks and the story than the gameplay and fun, and that I don't advocate ever)
Other stuff I can't be bothered scoring.
I think that's a bit better...

I got to say that it was a pretty cool game but after buying warhawk, I forgot all about bioshock. Warhawk is just so damn fun online, see u all online, playing warhawk wit my cousins.
How do you hate Atlas?
Spoiler being hinted at (nothing revealed):
I loved Atlas so much that the last bit just wasn't as good. And same for Ryan.
I think your problem is that you don't appreciate what makes the game good. You clearly don't give a hoot about story, and you clearly missed the brightness option. Games like this are supposed to be dark. You shouldn't be comparing Bioshock to Goldeneye, Halo or Doom because it's simply too different. The variety, the imagination, the depth, the customization; it's practically non-existent in the games you're comparing it to, yet their Bioshock's strong points.
now i may not be a credible opionion but after playing the demo i thought it was fantastic. you way you light them on fire and then zap the water they jump in was great. the story seemed to really draw you in right from the beginning.
HOWEVER.
No death penalty...WTF is up with that? that single thing alone could spoil the game for me
This was one of the best games I have played in a while.
The FPS/RPG hybrid gameplay is so addictive, you want to keep playing to boost up your player and see what horrible situation waits for you around the corner.
I have been recomending this game to everyone.
