Okay, I have a buddy, his name is Jordan. He wouldn't stop shoving his love of Bioshock down my throat. Now some people have called Bioshock one of the best games ever.

Personally, I was not impressed. Seriously whats so good about it. =/

It was a sugar coated FPS that had a good setting and a good story, but with severe suspension of disbelief issues. The game was still really well made though.

Maybe it was the atmosphere of the game that you don't like, or the gameplay itself. A lot of people liked the customization of the plasmids and weapons. The ending(s) was/were pretty weak.

Remember, some people call it the best game ever, not everyone.;)

I have to agree on this. I really enjoyed the setting, it was absolutely the best part of the game. The story was good too but the execution of the game as atotal was way off. What should have been a game with much more RPG elements ended up beeing a mediocre shooter.

Thanks for your 2 cents, but I'm not even sure they're worth that much.

Sounds like a couple people played too much COD and just can't appreciate a good single player FPS.

How ironic. I just played the demo today to see what the hype was about. Didn't seem so bad (after all, I hate FPS games so wouldn't know a "good" FPS if I played one) but, I was kinda turned off by the eeireness of the game. Then when I learned how to play, things got better. I'd probably have to play the full game to see wither or not it's mediocre but, it wasn't bad at least. What urks me is that we're here admitting it had mediocre gunplay when the game itself won quite a few GOTY awards. Just some food for thought.

It was a great game, atmosphere was excellent. I just think it got a bit repetitive and went on a little too long.

Not even close. I was also one of the people that waited past the hype to buy this game. Then I actually bought it and played it. There wasnt much to really like besides the setting and atmosphere. The gameplay is way overrated. I couldnt even bring myself to finish the game even though I was very close to the end. So TC I agree with you 100%. After playing this game for alittle while I just spent my days playing STALKER a million times.

One of the best single player FPS in a good long while. Best ever? No. Graphics were amazing for the time. The game is polished to hell and has an extremely cool setting and atmosphere. Bioshock = awesome.

The only thing overrated in this thread is the word overrated.

Thats an interesting perception, but its mediocre compared to what? It was a very well designed game that had great atmosphere(unlike halo 3) and gameplay mechanics(unlike MGS4), it didnt get repetitive(unlike Assasins Creed). Its definitely one of the best games this gen, with or without MP.

I played it on PC and the gunplay was fast and good. Otherwise it was ok and among different single player FPS games I prefer STALKER over any game including bioshock.

Maybe people who are saying mediocre gunplay played it on console? Controller may not be as fast as a mouse.

Eh I got it off a steam when it was on sale for $4.99, got about halfway through it. Loved the atmosphere, the graphics were pretty good, but, well the gameplay was really bad. Spiritual Successor to System Shock 2? More like not fit to lick SS2's boot. The gunplay was so weak it hurt, and most of the plasmids felt pointless. W/e only spent a 5note on it.

No, they were significantly underpowered. There was never any reason to use guns, and you were all too glad not to because the only decent gun was the shotgun.

Damn, well I guess I won't bother with the full game since I don't like FPS anyway. It's just that the Incinerate! sucked so bad yet a shotgun to the head lead to instant kills. That wrench sucked by the way. No, they were significantly underpowered. There was never any reason to use guns, and you were all too glad not to because the only decent gun was the shotgun.

Thats my main concern with FPS, It has to "feel" right. The guns have to sound good, make an impact, and it needs to seem like your really hitting the target.

Bioshock didnt have that for me. I guess I forgot to put IMO

Well, my friends mostly found it was too hard since weapons did little damage, I honetly thought it was one of the easier games i've played, and I beat it on survivor. The game supports a lot of playstyles, but if you play on harder difficulties running and gunning doesn't work and the difficulty problem is worse than ever. I personally thought it was the best game I played out of 2007, but I can understand why some people might not like it.

I guess the main issues can concern difficulty or replay value, it is amazing the first time through. I didn't really find any problems with the feel of anything, but enemies could have showed more emotion when shot in the face instead of constantly rushing me until they died. Weapon sound wasn't too great nor was the way recoil worked, but it worked well enough next to plasmids.

Indeed it was very mediocre, all it had going for it was atmosphere, and SS2's was STILL better.

If I can beat the game with a wrench on the hardest difficulty without even trying, then something is wrong.

i just got it last week for $20, i';m not really an fps fan, but i love it. great game. like mentioned above, the actual gunplay/melee is a little off and clunky at times, but everything else is top notch, great story, great atmosphere(i love killing waves of enemies while sone classical music is playing lol) and the plasmids are awesome, and i love the little sister killing/saving in order to get stronger(coolest part in game imo) thats my 2 cents

Its one of the best shooters this gen cycle. However its far from one of the best games ever. Even System Shock 2 is strides ahead in design and narrative, despite Bioshock having the fantastic Rapture and one great medium bending moment.

I was in a similar position. Bioshock was recommended by a friend who loved it. I found it boring. I'd rather play Perfect Dark Zero. I've been noticing a trend between big budget games that recieve AAA reviews and after the hype dies, people come to their senses and realize teh AAA for what it is. The publisher makes it's millions and the gamers move on to the next big game. "Hardcore" gamers get hoodwinked every time.
