BioWare CEO: PS3 is powerful and unlike anything else

Ray Muzyka, co-founder and CEO of BioWare, has expressed his embracing attitude towards Sony's PlayStation 3. He further pronounces the studio plans to increase their games on sony's PS3 and more surprises are coming to PS3 owners

He says:

"Well, you know every platform has its pros and cons and they're all challenging in different ways," Muzyka told Nowgamer. "The interesting thing about approaching a new platform like PlayStation is that it's very powerful and it's just different from anything else. You have to embrace that and make sure that you're fully aware of the technology differences and make use of all the strengths of the platform."

More importantly, Muzyka expresses his interest in the sales potential of the platform following its $299 price point and Slim redesign. He adds that BioWare plans to increase its development of PS3 games:

"I think it's a huge opportunity with the pricing changes, now the platform is definitely on the upswing and there are some great games coming. We're planning to work more on it. We haven't announced any future projects, but I'd love to see more BioWare games launch on PS3."

lol, you realize theyres jsut as many 360 games taht dont run at 720p as there are PS3 games? maybe even more.

I know this will shock some of the Sony-types around here, but BioWare does make games other than Mass Effect. In fact they've already made a game for the PS3, and will probably make more in the future.

I think itll only "win" when MS puts out their next console, making the PS3 "win" irrelevant. its not like 360 is not selling great still, and PS3 hasnt been outselling 360 in NPD for this whole year pretty much. So unless SONY can get back to outselling them by a meaningful amount, I just cant see it happening any time soon. But of course your jsut going to bring up WW, where PS3 does tend to outsell 360, but not by enough to make a big impact in the sales gap.

you don't think it's the least bit suspicious that around the same time that the PS3 drops in price that suddenly lots of 3rd party developers come out to make very similar statements about the ps3's hardware capabilities?

i mean i'm not dissing the ps3, but everybody doesn't just suddenly get kool aid in their drinks about a piece of hardware

even Valve came out and started talking about the ps3 hardware

the same thing happened with Microsoft and the Xbox 360, when the PS3 came out everybody assumed it was going to be better by leaps and bounds, when it wasn't all of a sudden tons of developers with nothing to gain came out and started talking about the Xbox 360 and how powerful it was

nevermind that most of those developers ended up making games with similar quality to the developers who didn't come out and express any sort of praise for the 360's hardware

i dunno, corporate shilling happens all the time, and when like... a dozen big name developers take time out of their day making moolah to praise a piece of hardware they've already been working on for years, it just doesn't seem spontaneous

it's sorta like how on the PC, lots of games will get a big Nvidia logo plasted on the screen during the intro, even if the game runs equally fine on an ATI card

I must admit that that Box art with the PS3 logo is quit sexy. I always thought PS3 had the cooler looking stock art.

They dont come out praising the 360 hardware anymore because they dont need to. Its already proven itself and everyone knows that its the most dev friendly console of the two, so theres not point in saying it again. However, people have to keep saying this about PS3 because, quit honestly, PS3 hasnt really proven itself to be a superior game console yet. Sure, its graphics look a bit better, but theres more to a console than graphics.

Because MS has a Exclusivity agreement. and its done well enough on 360 and PC. and honestly I question how much time theyll put into the port and how well itll turn out because its UE 3, and that engine dosent translate great to PS3 alot of times. Plus, even if 1 and 2 did comes to PS3, itll be so late that nobody would care except PS3 fanboys that could use it as some king of ammo against 360.

Cute, but there is absolutely, positively nothing to indicate Mass Effect is ever coming to the PS3. On the other hand, Dragon Age is already on the PS3, Dragon Age 2 will all-but-certainly be on the PS3, and BioWare's new IP will probably be on the PS3 as well. But he couldn't possibly be referring to working on those games. No, this is clearly a secret message to PS3 owners everywhere that ME is on its way.

They just said that they acutaly like the PS3. For all you know EA could have had BioWare locked in a basemtent and held at gunpoint to make the PS3 version better looking.

i think it's got less to do with which console actually has the best graphics and more to do with trying to market your games

if i were a big studio releasing games in 2007/2008 on the 360 i'd definitely be bragging about the 360, not because it's legitimately better but because i'm selling the merits of my game on its graphical prowess which is a big selling tool nowadays

Honestly, the potential and Power of PS3 is really only going to transfer to Exclusives. Multipaltform, which makes up about 80 percent or more of our games, i snever going to take the time to take advantage of these things to make the version better than the 360 version in a meaninful way, so I really question how much it matters that PS3 has more theoretical power and potential.

It only looked better on PS3, but it didnt run nearly as well then on 360. So if you want the best LOOKING version, then yeah go PS3, but if you want the best RUNNING version, get it on 360. Or get it on PC and have both.

I really dont think PS3 would bankrupt sony. i think your exagerating. It did hemerage money though. I think people underestimate how big SONY really is.

well of course they like it, they're making money now that it's $299 and more gamers are flocking to it, gamers with money to spend

but people have to remember these are multiplat devs making these statements, they're the last people in the industry who would optimize for one platform over other platforms

like i said earlier, sorta like on PC where a dev might praise Nvidia or include Physx, but not put much effort behind it because they still gotta sell the game to ATI users

this is still a business

maybe if Mistwalker makes a PS3 exclusive someday we'll finally figure out which platform is the best, since they're one of the few who only make exclusives but do it on different platforms

Well, regardless it got .5 higher than the 360 version. The point is, there are already BioWare games on the PS3 that rival ME:2 in-terms of quality, and even trump their 360 counter-parts. Even if only slightly.
