With Bioware making a rushed game like DA2 it really shows how much Obsidian can handle the pressure better. New Vegas was buggy as hell and has crap graphics but I'll be damned if it isn't a fine RPG with a lot of depth and more than 4 areas. DA2 is mediocre in nearly every respect, from dialog to level design to choices along with the bad graphics and bugs.

Haven't played DA2 yet. I decided not to buy it after hearing all the negative feedback from the internets. I might pick up the inevitable GOTY if they manage to flesh it out with add-ons like Awakening. Also, I agree with you about New Vegas. How the PC version didn't manage 9.0 is nuts. Even with the bugs and the ****ty engine, NV is 10 times the game Fallout 3 was.

I played it extensively and waded through the 3 or 4 unique areas it has and did like 90% of the quests. I can spoil any part of the game if you want.

Can't really comment on the comparison (don't like Fallout, period), but is DA2 really that bad? Due to a promotion thing at a local game store, I could trade in LBP2 & get it for practically nothing, but I didn't really like the first, nor did I finish it (if the story/saves are important). Only four zones though? Anyway, Bioware is responsible for ME1&2, so I'd have trouble putting most developers above the team that worked on that.

They got really lazy. In most quests you go through the same cave or mansion. It's unacceptable. Kotor 2 was never this bad.

It's actually quite good so far. There's a larger, more open world to be found in Kirkwall.

Really? I haven't played New Vegas, but F:NV must be to F3 what AC2 was to AC if that's the case.

I don't see the point of all the bashing. The game is still great, I just feel like fans are trying to drag Bioware down for some reason.

There's some expectations here. You don't expect a bioware game to be this lazily made. They just crapped out a low budget cash-in sequel to a pretty damn good game that a lot of people liked that took 7 years to make.

Bioware has taken an action oriented developing posture since ME2, since that turned out great for them, now they expect the same with DAII. Good thing is I'm playing ME1 for the third time, and I'll be probably doing the same with DA:O, those were RPGs not action games with dialogue options.

SkaRy_RuLeZ

The reason why the fans are hatin is because the sequel targets a different kind of players. They targetted you who found DA:O the most boring rpg ever. Is like Gran Turismo 6 would play like Burnout. There would be a new type of players who will enjoy it but the fans of the serie would feel betrayed.

Im quite certain you have never played dragon age 2 but judging new vegas i can tell you that 80 hours of gameplay and completeing the game on hardcore left me with a very sour taste in my mouth with those bugs that you glazed over. Tbat game was near broken in spots. As for bioware, sorry bro theyre still the king of the mountain without equal... they are not infallible however.

I was a huge fan of origins, and I was very disappointed to hear that the sequel would have a voiced character and a dialogue wheel. But I heard that news around 6 months ago. I accepted the game for what it is now. I can't allow myself to be completely depressed about a game. If I did, I would be an elitist by now.

Also its not like the sequel is without its improvements. The combat is better and less repetitive(no more dungeon crawls.), and each side quest has a certain quality to it.

Their latest game scored AA, and they made it in like a year, while working on 2-3 different titles, which will most likely also be AA-AAA if not AAAA, what?

I can understand why people are upset but goddamn it, it's just a game. Go play something else. All of this "I've been betrayed!" nonsense needs to stop.

I can't take any of this stuff personally and I have to wonder about the people who do. I'd rather a game designer make the game that they want or (have to make in the case of a publisher rushing them) and they live or die by that.

Am I disappointed by some of the changes? YES. I hate the recycled environments and for all of it's changes the combat is still clunky, but it isn't the worst game I played, hell it isn't even close.

They did it so they could get a boost for SW tor. It is costing a lot to make that game. So DA:O was a quite popular tittle and therefor it needed to be milked. Let's not forget about 20 dlc at first day too.

listen dude. they didn't make the game exactly like I wanted so don't you tell me they aren't the worst comapny on earth. Their betrayal cuts to the bone. Gaming is finished as we know it because we just found out that EA is greedy.

I'll reserve judgement on the game until I play it, but I'm pretty sure that studios are allowed to release a bad game here and there. And don't blame them for rushing it. Look at every other game they've ever released. They took their damn time. Bioware's new ownership probably doesn't like that - it isn't good for the quarterly bottomline.

Um, 'far better' is a bit of a stretch.

It's really not. I loved Biowares older games, but Obsidions writing tend to be more intelligently done. However, their presentation and polish sucks. If they worked on polish, they would surpass Bioware easily. Note I wouldn't have necessarily said this 3 or 4 years ago, but Biowares latest games are becoming really dumbed down and meh. Good games, but nothing compared to what they're capable of.

I play Obsidian games. Their stories are good, maybe in the top from what I've seen of RPG's on the PC, but like I said, to say that their writing is miles ahead is a bit of a stretch. Kotor 2 had some great characters I thought were very well done ( Hanharr, Kreia... ), but the story was regarded as unfinished by many, or lacking a proper ending. The disciple also seemed to have many people who weren't... too fond of him, though I don't remember that much of him. The party members' writing from NWN 2 the OC was a step down from the impressiveness of Kotor 2, with some rather stereotypical characters and fantasy cliche humour thrown in ( Oh, an elven druid, what a Tree-worshipper! ) They certainly didn't seem as complex as in Kotor 2 to me, though I haven't played MOTB. It's not all about polish though ( well, it depends on what you mean by 'polish' exactly ). The level design in Kotor 2 was quite poor, with areas tediously stretching out into bland environments where you were supposed to fight the same enemies. Like when you go to Telos' surface and you're forced to fight your way through wildlife and mercenaries for quite a while, after which you go into the most bland-looking robot compound I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, not all fighting areas in Kotor 1 were superb either, but at least they didn't stretch out so much. There's also the case of Obsidian not improving over sequels very much at all. I don't know if you can ascribe all these faults to a 'lack of polish'.

Yeah, KOTOR 2 was unfinished. They were forced by Lucasarts to rush to release in the christmas holiday, apparently. If they ahdn't been rushed, the ending would have no doubt been miles better and would hopefully have been up to the standard of the rest of the game. By polish I meant bugs and presentation, but yeah, level design was done better by bioware (it didn't bother me much though, hence why didn't really notice much). I still think Bioware have definitely degraded in quality lately. I know Mass effect 2 is very highly praised, and i did enjoy it, but it didn't feel as good as Mas effect to me, and Mass effect wasn't up to KOTORs level, but maybe thats my star wars fanboyism kicking in (Not that I am much of one, but I do prefer that universe). I also liked jade Empire which seems an unpopular opinion....

And yes, i still need to play their best games from the 90s...

So Bioware finally released a game I like and can actually call good after the 2 clunky Third Person Shooters and the most boring rpg ever and now everyone is hatin?

The reason why the fans are hatin is because the sequel targets a different kind of players. They targetted you who found DA:O the most boring rpg ever. Is like Gran Turismo 6 would play like Burnout. There would be a new type of players who will enjoy it but the fans of the serie would feel betrayed.

Thats kind of what happened with KZ3.

Come on guys, Bioware is an excellent developer. They made a ton of AAA games like Mass Effect, KOTOR, and DA: Origins but then they make one, just one 8/10 game that didn't meet the hype and suddenly they're a very bad dev that only makes shameless consolized games.

Obsidian has great ideas but executes them very poorly. Just look at Alpha Protocol.

Darksiders666
No, no no. THe problem with obsidian, is they take too long with their games, and every publisher on the market has a stick up their ass for getting the games out. Fallout 2, obsidian had all kinds of ideas, and released a half finished game due to interplay pestering them to put it out. Kotor 2, same exact problem, great ideas, no time. I have nothing to say about alpha protocol, i can't honestly defend them for that one. But neverwinter nights 2 is still a rather loved RPG for its time.

 woah okay I never knew Bioware made a Sonic game  okay, a few 9/10 games, one 8/10 game and a 6.5/10 game. At least they learned from their mistakes? :P I really don't get how they saw potential in a Sonic RPG though.

I love how hermits are so quick to turn their backs on developers who provided them with great games over the years. It happened with Valve (L4D2), Crytek, and now Bioware. I mean, geez, give them another chance. They're only human. :|

God help Bioware if ME3 gets under a 9...

Bioware has been pretty awful lately, lifetime however, I still think highly of them. I thought the Dragon Age 2 demo was pretty shoddy and both Mass Effect games were incredibly tedious to me. Dragon Age Origins is their "best" game this gen, but even that wasnt particulary fun. I liked the battle system it had but that was it. I was very disappointed in the changes for DA2.

Obsidian are still good, they made Fallout New Vegas and Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Bioware... not so much

LOL no. Obsidian actually makes great games, buggy but great. Dragon Age 2 is devoid of any ambition, something that can't be fixed through a patch or mods.

Of course they are great, one of the best for me but they are not Bioware that brought us ME1, Kotor and DA:O. Since EA bought them Bioware doesn't exists anymore. It's EA Bioware and the name is still there because of the fame it has. The decisions are made from EA now. (both ME1 and DA:O were already into development when EA bought Bioware so these games were not affected)

For example

(why the lead designed for Dragon Age decided not to work on Dragon Age 2.

Why Brent Knowles left in his own words:

http://blog.brentknowles.com/2010/08/15/bioware-brent-year-10-fall-2008-summer-2009/

The bottom line is: to a greater or lesser extent, Brent Knowles left because the direction the game (DA2), and the company had changed to something he could not work for anymore because they were making the game into something he didnt envision as his type of game. )
