Comments? Guess we'll just have to check how much space is used when it's released next month.

http://www.bizarrecreations.com/article.php?article_id=5257

Disc Oh?
Wrong end of stick been grasped?

As I'm sure you've seen, some of the comments made on our forum have been blown out of all proportion. This has been reported on certain web sites. It seems that a number of fanboys have jumped on the topic... sigh. So it's time we cleared this one up...

When we started designing PGR4 our primary goals were to create a great and unique experience over and above PGR3, to push the hardware as far as we could, and obviously to ensure that we give great value for money. DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games... and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.

The previous game, PGR3, had five environments. That's how much we could create given our time and resources for that game. With the longer development cycle we've had for PGR4, as well as the advantage of having final hardware, we wanted to create a far bigger and better game by this time including 10 environments, as well as a whole bunch of new gameplay features.

Rather than having two "fixed" times of day, this time around we decided to use our time to create a dynamic weather system, which effectively creates a much more dramatic palette from which to work with. To show you where we're coming from, have a look at this screenshot crop sheet. This is something we use internally to compare our environments, lighting, and weather effects... but it's certainly useful for demonstrating the breadth of the game here!

We've never had to cut content to fit on the disc, and we probably never will.

Each next-gen format has its own merits. We should know, as we're currently developing games for all of them in one form or another. It's not a case of one system having less of this, and the other having more of that. As developers we are given a fixed platform, and that's what we work with. At the end of the day we're games developers, and we try to create the best we can irrespective of platform. We hope you end up agreeing with our design decisions when you see the game for yourself.

It appears so. Also, I love how all the bash topics were quickly filling up with silly statements yesterday; however, a valid and factual topic gets very little posts. I guess thats life in SW. :)

He's basically saying that he knew exactly what he was working with from the start. At least that's what I am getting. So yeah, of course no content was cut - they knew what would and would not fit I guess - again, thats kinda what it sounds like he's saying. So yeah, I guess all the crazy pplz get owned (the ones who were using this news to previously slam the 360's DVD9 choice).

edit: Upon re-reading and upping my reading comprehension, they even go as far to say that they don't even consider DVD9 as a factor when they initially design the game, so yeah... no need to use this as a BD > DVD argument~

So when presented with facts, the best fanboys can do is scream conspiracy theories? Like GS is teh bias, or MS pays everyone to say nice things. Get a grip.

If it's an anti-PS3 rumour then it's not true until the dev/Sony say so yet when an anti-360 rumour crops up it doesn't matter if the dev quashes it?

Rather than having two "fixed" times of day, this time around we decided to use our time to create a dynamic weather system, which effectively creates a much more dramatic palette from which to work with. To show you where we're coming from, have a look at this screenshot crop sheet. So this is your logic? Sort of like he who smelt it dealt it? I got you. There are so many things wrong with that post. BTW, who is "lie again"? Your sentence structure is so bad I can't keep up, but since you have only one person not being truthful, but doing it "again", I'm confused. :?

Of course they didn't cut content to fit. Why would they create more content than the disc size. They design game from the start with 9GB limit in mind, they don't start developing stuff to cut it off later.

I don't think "DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games" is so hard to understand.

Hmm, I read it in english, and from my interpretation of the english language, it meant "DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games... and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys." Sure he may be saying that but it is what was written. Please inform me however, the way that you chose to read this response.

[QUOTE="lordxymor"]Of course they didn't cut content to fit. Why would they create more content than the disc size. They design game from the start with 9GB limit in mind, they don't start developing stuff to cut it off later.

I don't think "DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games" is so hard to understand.

For some people it is.

They have been desperately trying ( and failing quite badly ) to justify their purchase of a super movie player when what they really wanted was a super game machine - ya know like the 360 does so well ! :)

How about you dispute the facts with evidence instead of your own one sided opinion for a change.

No features were dropped huh ??

"You won't see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn't a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD."

They had diffrent times of day for all cities/tracks but now they have this:

"Macau is always in the daytime, but if you play it during a storm everything looks darker and more foreboding. If you play during a blizzard then things are slightly tinged blue and everything seems more frozen. Of course, playing this track in sunshine will make everything appear bright and yellowy."

No full-on day cycles then, but some lighting tints to help set the mood.

Seems like not all tracks/city's will have this feature and this is damage control.

its just a PR nightmare just like the ps3 pricecut...

someone just couldnt shut up and teh other dev needs to try to give it another spin and act like there is nothing going on..

That is the most pathetic statement I've ever read. Devs start a game with 9GB in mind? Yeah I'm sure that you obvioulsy never. Do you realize how many things never end up on the final versions of games? I mean you can't just calculate things like that. Devs don't have a tool that says your idea = 9GB of free space. Time is the biggest factor of things being subtracted from a game not disc space.

I mean Hugo was supposed to be in Street Fighter III but they had to wait until 2nd Impact: Giant Attack to add him. Some of his sprites are in the debug mode as well as his stage in even in the first game.
