Well, that's good for them that they aren't ignoring the situation.

HOLY CRAP THATS GOOD NEWS!
At the same time does show that the 360 has some SERIOUS reliablity issues.

Or spin it the way Lems spin the news about sixaxis getting rumble.

A Straight-Up apology and warranty extension, plus reimbursing more than a billion dollars in repair fees sounds like an admission to me.
Great news for gamers though, we no longer have to play in fear of our 360's dying after 13 months.

Moore's letter said worldwide, so that means it applies to EVERYONE!
What a double edged sword, "Yeah our console failed quite often, but we'll cover it." If it saves me $140, then why complain?
Thank God, we arent left in the cold as usual. Seriously, they introduce the Elite to a market where they are failing badly but not to Europe? As pleased at Microsoft as I am for doing this, it still doesn't erase the fact that too many 360s are dying. BansheesdieThe one year head start means that MS can carry on persueing the level of quality they have bought to the industry as they did with XBOX.
i feel bad for the people that already payed 2 or 3 times...redandblack23
They'll get their money back.
About time. It just goes to show that in the end all of the crying about hardware was worth it. This week was full of news about hardware problems so Microsoft eventually had no choice but to listen. I'm a little concerned that only the 3 red light issue is covered, as there is also disc scratching and GPU overheating. Neither is as common as the 3 red lights but they can still happen.
Meh I've paid for the 3 year warranty though so I guess I'm covered if I get those problems. Peter Moore says in his letter that they have taken steps to improve the hardware so I guess I will give my console another chance if they have indeed made improvements to all of them.
So much for this all being proaganda by Sony eh lemmings?
Im still pissed that they were shoving out bad units, but this is about the best way to man up for their faults
Sure the media and fanboys will tear into them in the short term, but for the long term this for the better.
It is admirable that they are standing behind their product. Certainly helps with the bad taste left in my mouth after having to send in my second 360. Still sucks that they are so undependable, but perhaps they will eventually eliminate the issue altogether.HarryCrackage
That probably means that they found what the issue was.
They might stop some of the bleeding but the damage is already done. MS drop the ball some where, and they are paying the price, everyone knows 360 is the worst when it comes to reliability, and MS will suffer from that. MS will also lose money extending the warranty for free. It's a lose lose situation for MS.
My 360 has been running fine but it's nice to know MS will pick up the tap if anything goes wrong for a couple years.

Well, my fingers are certainly crossed.
It's too much of a hassle returning that 360 over and over until it's finally fixed.
I feel bad for the people who actually gone through 11 360 failures.
I think alot of people who claim 360 hardware failure on here dont mistreat their consoles. With that said, I dont think MS prepared forhow %80-90 of 360 users treat the console. I'm not saying people drop them etc, its just the extreme of normal use like keeping the console in a small area in a tv center with no AC in the summer with high temps. Consoles are becoming more and more like PC's in the way you have to treat them. The 360 is basically a really small SFF PC, what the 360 has in the small space allocated can generate alot of heat when in these extrme conditions. But anyways, I'm still on my first 360 and welcome this 3yr warranty.
Imo, MS owned up big time.
Nice, Microsoft really does care, a sign of a Great Company!Cubs360
First itwas
"You know, things break."
now
"Your whining has paid of."
Why? This doesn't stop the console from breaking. The warranty is good, the hassle of returning and waiting is not.at least it gives the cows one less thing to post about in system wars
i guess they'll have to brainstorm something else for those 360-bashing topics

True. I had a 3 year warranty anyway but I was about to give up on 360 because it was too annoying having to send it in again and again. Mine broke 3 times in about half a year - My original lasted the longest, it was the refurbs that sucked.
Peter Moore's letter though says that they have improved the hardware. I have my doubts, but I will give Microsoft another chance.
