HOLY CRAP THATS GOOD NEWS!

At the same time does show that the 360 has some SERIOUS reliablity issues.

Heil68

I would say that it alludes to the fact that on the minnimum the failure rate is at least 5%...

They would not give 3yr warranties because of a 5% failure rate.

How do you know? Can you give us a link to their business model? Do you talk to their CFO and Loss Prevention? What link do you have that shows this data?

3-5% is well within the industry standard remember?

Wow, so some people are STILL going to try and stick to the 5% failure rate even after this announcement. $1 billion is a big pile o cash. Anyone can quickly draw the line and assume that adds up to a much bigger number then 5%.

Assuming they sold 15 million (a bit high really) and that only 5% are failing. That's 750k units. Divide 1 billion by 750k leave about $1333 per console. I highly doubt it costs MS $1333 (roughly) to fix/replace a 360. I know this math is all rough, but it "ballparks" the whole deal quite a bit higher then 5%.

[QUOTE="blaznwiipspman1"]so what they're saying is if i ever have the 3 red lights, they will replace my console for free and extend my warranty for 3 years?Bgrngod

No, what they are saying is that there is a new extended 3 year warranty for the 3 red light issue on ANY 360. Specifically for that issue only.

Any other problems, USB port issues, disk read errors, are under the old warranty.

This means that the 3 red lights issue is probably the major reason anyone sends in a failing 360.

Easy solution....just make your 360 get the 3red lights if you have other issues then send it in.

Well it's about damn time...

No matter how people try to spin it, this is excellent news. I'm glad I've been sitting on my 360 all this time, First thing tomorrow morning, I'm calling em up and ordering the coffin.

With this news and the possibility of a PS3 price drop and sixaxis with rumble, It's like I'm getting an early birthday present. :D

Well yes someone could go and wrap their 360 in a towel and try to artificially cause the 360 to die, but I would hazard a guess that the MS guys can spot characteristics of a "natural" 360 death vs. one that has been nuked by an owner. There may be some motherboard warping, or bracket breaking, or something, that is typical of a legitimately failed 360.

I doubt they even look for that. Heck you could probably just sayyou have 3 rings of death. They get it...send you a refurb and you're good to go. At worse they say it's fine send it back to you and you call back saying now my disk drive is broken (or whatever was broken in the first place).

Yeah it's not the most honest thing in the world, but neither is Microsoft's refusal to admit issues and extend warranties until AFTER their fiscal year closed.

No, 5% just seems insignificant to me.

Sigh what about other hardware failures... Ive never experienced 3 red lights of death. The only 2 hardware failures ive experieced are freeze to death and disc read error.

[QUOTE="peaceful_anger"]Is this their answer to fixing the 360's problem??? Just extending the **** warranty again??? MS maybe I will show some interest in your system when you actually fix the real problem with the 360 instead of just extending the warranty AGAIN. It's really a shame cause the 360 has a lot of great games out now as well as a lot of great upcoming games, yet the hardware sucks major ***.-Ninja_Dog-

I'm sure they are fixing the problem. This just shows they have found and acknowledge problem(s) and they are addressing them. Them extending the warranty is a good thing.

uh, get more informed before you bash MS buddy.

MS is changing out the old hardware with the hardware in the new 360 systems. They are fixing the over heating problem mostly.

500,000 failed consoles doesnt warrant a 3 year warranty? Half a million failed consoles does NOT warrant a 3 year warranty??

CyanX73

What do you care, Magical Zebra? As you so proudly stated before, you've had your 360 since launch and it's working

First of all I wasnt talking to you. Thx for minding my business and not having a clue as to what I was talking about.

the good: 360 covered for 3 years

the bad: pretty much saying 360 break and are unreliable which would also mean their could be truth to the 30% failure rate

i'm not sure weather the whole statement should be considered all good or bad

Ragashahs

i actually think its because they punched out loads of refurbished consoles when they broke, and they are now trying to get them out of circulation. Which might be what the warrenty is in place for.

As tbh, a redone up console isn;t going to work to great now, is it?

[QUOTE="TheBigDrat"]waits for a cow to say this is bad news-Sir-Poof-

Or spin it the way Lems spin the news about sixaxis getting rumble.

That news is just a rumour and nothing more. They wont and really cant bring a new rumble controller out unless its an extra, and not bundled in with the main deal. Juts because yeh, its a major product change and would screw over early adopters.

I know they aren't thinking clearly. 5% of launch consoles can be expected and not too many, but 5% of all consoles sold is a lot.

Hard to believe so many predicted the PS3 to have the hardware issues, not the 360.

How the tables have turned............
