I thought that Bungie would have given some credit to Naughty Dog, seeing as how those 2 were talking during UC2's making. I wouldn't doubt if ND helped them pull more graphical juice out of the engine for reach...
Reminds me of when Naughty Dog gave a special thanks to Infinity Ward and Bungie in Uncharted 2's credits.

[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]According to Hiphopgamer? Or did Bungie actually say this?6matt6Took the words out of my mouth. Is this really just a video of some guy speculating what he thinks Bungie did during development? I'm 4 minutes in and he's just...spouting bull **** so far.

I was wondering the same thing, but I don't have the mental fortitude to sit through more than 20 consecutive seconds of Hiphopgamer. Someone else is going to have to take one for the team and find out if he has anything to back up that statement.

I wonder how many people actually bother reading the links because a lot of people seem to be acting like this is true.
I wouldn't trust that as any proof at all. While I would actually like to see all the things that inspired Bungie for Reach, I would only take it from their mouths as fact.
1.) Not sure if HHG has a source on this one. The video won't load for me right now, so I can't watch it...
2.) Whether it's true or not, I'll say that I think Halo Reach's visuals do remind me of KZ2 in ways. Dark, gritty, and pretty :).
Well, this is certainly something for the 360 fanboys to talk about, eh?jalexbrownNot really. HHG? That's all that needs to be said. Until Bungie comes out and says something.
Lems there you have it. you can't say its a forgotten game, when its quality has your biggest game developers forced to up the ante.
Competition is quite good, I like this news. Now Halo: Reach can rise above the "good but not great"ODST and Wars to try and match or beat the Killzone franchise.
EDIT: Just saw the link again, doesn't seem very credible.

I think you mean "just saw the link for the first time."
I don't understand this thread.
Bungie said they wanted to make Halo Reach a great game and they wanted to up the ante on visuals for the game, so they rewrote the engine, looked at what a bunch other top looking games were doing, set themselves some higher benchmarks than Halo 3 or ODST, etc. They are on the record a dozen times saying things like this.
Hiphopgamer is saying that they must of lookedat KZ2, since it is the best looking FPS. Well, duh...of course they did. Why wouldn't they? Just like I imagine they looked at UC, GeOW etc etc.
How exactly is this news or ownage? Or do you believe that developers lock themselves in caves and ignore what everyone else is doing?
There are multiple levels of failure at play here!
- First off, the 'source' of this startling revelation is a weirdo babbling incoherently about video games while trying to sound 'gangsta', why does this character have any legitimacy beyond any of the posters here?
- Sony deserves a lot of credit for Halo Reach? Because Bungie got inspiration from Killzone 2? C'mon, if that's true, Sony already owes Bungie any credit earned. You don't by any chance think that maybe Halo 1-3 might have been a source of inspiration in the creation and development of Killzone2? Of course they also owe a lot of credit to ID Software for being inspired by Doom and Quake, To Valve for being inspired by Half-Life and Half-Life2, to Epic for being inspired by the Unreal games. Nwer games are inspired by games that came before them. Just because Uncharted 2 was heavily inspired by Gears of War does not mean it's a bad game, nor does it really mean that Naughty Dog 'owes' Epic anything.
- There's a helluva difference between being 'inspired by' and 'would never have thought about'. Halo: Reach is not a shocking departure from the earlier Halo games, looks grittier, sure. New and better graphics, add a few new features. That's pretty much the run of the mill shopping lists for sequels nowadays.
Which bring me to the last point.
- Bungie being inspired by Killzone 2 is *not a big deal*. Of course Bungie would be inspired by the other big titles on the market, you can be 100% sure that they were also inspired by Call of duty: MW, by Crysis, by Gears of War and by a bunch of other games out there. Game developers get inspired by other games released how can anyone possibly be surprised by that?
This isn't very surprising at all. Reach has a much more gritty atmosphere that is similar to Killzone 2 and after seeing the visuals of that game, as well as helping out Naughty Dog with the MP, that probably inspired them to make a game with really good graphics/gameplay rather than just really good gameplay

You do realizde that Bungie didn't actually say that, right?
people never give hiphopgamer any credit...... he IS a gaming journalist. He's more involved in the industry than any of us AND he's usually partially right on everything he says.Nonstop-Madness
Translation 1: he says stuff I want to hear.
Translation 2: he's not saying anything that's unconditionally true but I can find legitimacy in what he says if I try hard enough.
And exactly what publication is he a journalist for?
Except KZ2 is not the best looking FPS... I hate KZ2's art direction and its over use of blur and bloom to masks rough edges and low texture resolution. I personally thought Gears of War 2 looked better. GOW also used motion blur for its edges, but it was no were near the degree of what Gorilla Games did for KZ2. I don't see how you can compare a game the size of Halo 3/Reach to a game with a much more linear world like Killzone 2. Even Gears 2 was larger in scale than Killzone 2 was and it still manages to stand out graphically. It seems like the PS3's best games are all linear, whereas PC and 360 games seems to be much larger and still manage to look amazing and in some cases, look better.I don't understand this thread.
