@kvally: I cant explain it, I wouldnt characterize it as a weeb game either
@mazuiface: I saw you doing it and not seeing the irony at all ...
When did I dismiss gears? By pointing out the double standard that fanboys have when they criticize games like Gravity Rush?
I must have really hurt your feelings. I actually enjoy gears of war and I have said it before on this forum if you would like to read my post history.
EDIT: And yes, Gears does have ridiculous character design. Don't pretend it doesn't.
Just like games like Akai Katana, floating schoolgirl shmup. Still an enjoyable game though and better than most try hard movie-games with macho heroes!
@kvally: You're a gamer first even though you're a fakeboy on SW sometimes. True gamers don't give a shit about where a game is made, all they care about is if the game is good or not.
It is little different then back in the days where there were no real FPS games on Console, or no real WRPG's "No one wants a brainless shooter, or WRPGs sucks ass"
What I try to say is that it is a tradition that Console fans (more so brand fans then average) hate games that is not on their platform, or in very limited number, it also exists in the PC space, but the lack of a brand to rally behind, there seems to be more people who are more welcomming to genres, types, and games made by different areas of the world (That is the only plausible reason I have for the slight change in the PC audience, but they certainly also has those people).
So it is not new Char, it is how it has always been ever since the NES (if you are old enough just remember back to how all games on one platform would suck, and everything on the other would magically be excellent. This is as far back as I can remember, but those from the Atari Era could likely sign under that it was t he exact same back then.
I always found the weeaboo games to be the very shitty niche games that only finalstar2007 likes. Neptunia, for example.
Exactly, Chaz decided to stir the weeaboo pot and laugh like a maniac who wants to watch the world burn I think :P
@charizard1605: only weeaboo gamers like you care about weeaboo games. Just because a game is made by Japanese devs doesn't mean it's a weeaboo game.
Ninja Gaiden, resident Evil, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry etc....not weeaboo
Persona, Disgaea, No Nu Kuni, Neptunia etc weeaboo.
Weeaboo games appeal to most people you find lurking around these places.
Real normal people like me that game casually or "bro gamers" we don't give a shit about that garbage.
I always found the weeaboo games to be the very shitty niche games that only finalstar2007 likes. Neptunia, for example.
Then it's clearly you don't know me. I could've told you there are some good JRPG games you may like if games like Neptunia isn't your taste but then again, you HATE Anime, so I won't bother.
@darkspineslayer: Read the thread before saying my name and spewing idiocy.
I did, and you salty bro.

No, its when you make sweeping generalisations about gamers and games and in the same f***ing sentence complain about them doing it lol
I did, and you salty bro.
Lol "you salty bro" is the best comeback you can come up with? Please GTFO.
I don't waste witty comebacks on salt. You entered the thread trying to dismiss the whole thing as an agenda. Which is ridiculous.
@charizard1605 is the sheep king right? Ask him about Wii U. Go ahead. See how biased he is.

Neptunia, or games like it, isn't for me. A las, I'm not one to get into games where characters who look like children are sexualized.

Except I did not. Did you read carefully? I even said that these types are primarily upset with the fact that a game that was not on the console of their choice is doing well, so they scapegoat the fact that it is Japanese developed or different in any way. I also said that when these games come to their platform, they buy them and enjoy them! You have just been riled up by what I am pointing out.
Coming from a guy who quoted and agreed with a guy who said all "weaboo" games are shit. Lol man you are just mad.
@kvally: I cant explain it, I wouldnt characterize it as a weeb game either
If it was exclusive to PS4 it would have been disregarded as a "weeb" game.
Same way that Gears of War is dismissed by a lot of Sony fanboys as a bro game.
Gamers dismiss on both ends. As for Gears of War, GOW4 specifically, I don't like the direction they took it with these fucking robots. Gears 1-3 I played them to completion the same weekend I got them. Never played Judgement, though I do own it now. But Gears 4 I am taking my sweet ass time playing it, as nothing is really keeping me glued to it. Unlike The Last Guardian, I have a hard time getting away from the game when I pick up the controller and I don't want the game to end.
Gears of War is a bro game, like Army of Two is a bro game. Nothing wrong with a bro game. Nothing wrong with Japanese game. I do find it wrong to lump or stereotype people by turning something that is viewed as an insult and using it as an insult.
And you say it as if it was a bad thing. I played just about ever Heptunia and I find them to be fun games, so what's the freaking problem?
@kvally: You're a gamer first even though you're a fakeboy on SW sometimes. True gamers don't give a shit about where a game is made, all they care about is if the game is good or not.
I agree with you yet again. In fact, I will take it once set further and say it shouldn't matter what device a gamer plays it on, all they should care about is if the game is good or not. Gamers should care about whether or not gaming is popular and fun.
@mazuiface: Dude if you want to talk about Gears it got smashed to the moon and back for how the characters looked. As you've been on this forum for less than 6 months I doubt you know what happened here a decade ago. No one has ever said Gears or roided out guys is normal. Please find me a single quote on the 10's of millions of posts on GS where this has ever been stated. However, if you wish to equate that with how certain JRPG's frame characters or even children's sexuality or how they wield swords that are literally twice the size of themselves then yes it is pretty normal, not sure how its even comparable (again not framing all games like this, using certain examples as you chose to do). So when you say:
"Roided out dudes with fucking insanely large biceps: normal.
Comic book style girl who can manipulate gravity: weaboo! what is happening to our children? Where's the imagination?"
or
"Honestly, to all of the morons bashing games because they don't have guns and killing people (usually Russians) or are developed in Japan, your loss. Go ahead and push your nationalistic xenophobic nonsense -- you are only giving everyone else an example of how they should not behave. If a diverse library of games is something you guys shouting "weaboo" are so repulsed by, you are only hurting yourselves by keeping yourself from enjoying new games."
and think you aren't generalising by trying to lump people who voice criticism of the games you are hailing into these groups or for these reasons? You absolutely are generalising.
As an aside, I personally I think gears is an absolute waste of space and I've been very vocal about how poor it is.
@uninspiredcup: babies and anime characters have noses, eyes and chins confirmed
That's form, not proportion. Proportion dictates form.
From a purely measured comparison to comparison, they are are more comparable. The bodies themselves are generally mature, with a child like face stitched on top like The Modern Prometheus gone awry.
This is common, not just for anime but more than a century with likes of Walt Disney, give something big cute eye's, you intrinsically want to care for it, it's something domestic cats and dogs evolved to do - a cats meow sounding like a baby crying, natures way of tricking your brain.
These however, were not specifically designed as romance games.

For one, I have actually browsed these forums for over a decade. Since 2004 to be exact. I usually posted through my brother's account, but that's not right, especially when we have some different opinions.
I think Gears is a fun game regardless of its over the top design - in fact, it doesn't take itself too seriously (until recently). Much like how I enjoy games with little girls flying planes like Dodonpachi or Akai Katana because the game is actually beast mode.
I find it very interesting that you take an issue with the fact that I reacted to some of the rather disgusting remarks people are making about Japanese people on this forum more than what these people are actually saying. It's also interesting that in this deflection, you are characterizing my obviously directed posts at these remarks as generalizations. Do you refrain from criticizing them because you agree? Do you have some sort of thing against Japanese people? There's a word for that. I think I used it there in that quote you took from me.

Well said, I completely agree. Which is why even though I act like a douche on SW in real life I have friends that game on all the different systems and we respect, enjoy, and even play each others games and systems without a care in the world. I have friends in real life that would be considered lemmings on SW and I don't harass them or make fun of them like I do with lemmings here because in all honesty I don't really give a shit what system people enjoy. Everyone should be free to game on whatever system and play whichever game they like to play without the fear of being labeled. That's what gaming is about, it's about fun and enjoying one's self. The real world is already messed up enough, no need for us gamers to antagonize each other.
:P Now back to my SW persona.....TLHBFRekt!!!!

I think thats kinda wide sweeping though. Not every anime type game is a romance game and every romance game is not automatically an anime game. They are weird anime games, but there are games like persona that I feel are written well and done more tastefully then a Witcher or a Mass Effect. Lumping all the games together as games for people who like children is kinda insulting and untrue, going far beyond SW poking
Phil took one look at Scalebound yesterday and said, " WTF, where are the muscles and cigars that you promised me! Get this WEABO shit out of here!" Then he said, " it's better for xbox gamers that I cancel this weabo shit."
Lemmings all over world deem Phil a saviour.
@mazuiface: I hadn't seen them (unless you're perhaps referring to @uninspiredcup? If you'd been on SW for as long as you claimed you know nothing he says can be taken seriously, and that's why I hadn't engaged him). Unfortunately Char decided to equate Weeaboo with Japan in the OP for the shocks and posts, the 2 have never linked on this board as vets have said throughout this thread.

As much as I disagreed with @charizard1605's original post because of what I've already posted, idiocy like this is worse. Charizard might have pigeonholed a group unintentionally, but this dumbass is just plain ignorant.

The Wticher 3 and Mass Effect are slightly different, these are (from what I'm aware) directly mapped from models faces.
The same is true of some Japanese developers as well, Capcom, when they made a leap in technology, moved away from the typical upside down egg towards directly using models faces with more definable angular features that stress facial planes more (i.e. the underlying bone structure) - typical of a mature face.
All in all we should burn romance games be it questionably aged (with is obviously immoral) or Mass Effect, with bizarre cadaver looking manikins written by someone who has never had sex.
Assassins Creed 3 is really the only good example that comes to mind of a well done romance in a game with any sense of class.
People will say "oh oh Persona", but I don't care. Game looks stupid, Assassins Creed III was cool.

@blue_hazy_basic: I see my reply to you started a kerfuffle. The point I made when I replied to you was in opposition to the use of 'odd.' Strange sexuality and manga bullshit including large weapons and skinny wielders is arguably lower in magnitude to the deviancy in ultra violent games that you're claiming are 'more normal' -- this includes games with "roided out" guys mazui was talking about.
This one here is actually excellent:
"Roided out dudes with fucking insanely large biceps: normal.
Comic book style girl who can manipulate gravity: weaboo! what is happening to our children? Where's the imagination?"
Both are comic book bs, but why is one more "normal?"
Think about how casually a lot of games portray vicious violence. Haven't you wondered why non gamers and the majority of women are immediately turned off by games like doom, CoD, Unreal, Gears etc.? Haven't you thought at all about why games like Gravity Rush (excluding the fact that it features female protagonists) and Mario would be more appealing to these people?
Think about how Overwatch gets criticized for the character design and mild violence compared to other blizz games as well. People use the 'weeaboo' slander on it!
You didn't really make a good case for yourself when you went up and agreed with people calling 'weeaboo' games bad; you just basically went balls deep into what I was lightly criticizing your post for.
I hope your milk leaks in your fridge and it smells up your entire house!!!!!!!!!
Woah woah lets not say things we can't take back here man!
The people who do not care for Weeaboo games, genuinely do not care for Weeaboo stuff. It is not about Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo. We just don't like that style. I do not care for Japanese culture in general. I like Ninjas, Samurais, cars and drifting, and some mech stuff, but that is about it. I don't care for the stupid hairstyles, feminine male characters, silly Japanese humor, anime/manga art style, cheezy acting, over the top and ridiculous things, etc..
I live in Vancouver where there are plenty of Japanese people. I try to embrace some of the Japanese culture, but I just don't care for most of it.
@kvally: You're a gamer first even though you're a fakeboy on SW sometimes. True gamers don't give a shit about where a game is made, all they care about is if the game is good or not.

And so is this! :)

Here's another case of what I was talking about.
"over the top and ridiculous things..."
You have the epitome of an "over the top and ridiculous" design choice in the form of a fictional character in your avatar.
Again, nowhere did I say these are bad. I just want to point out how (actually) ridiculous it is to ridicule 'weeaboo' games and call yourself a gamer.
@X_CAPCOM_X: I didn't call weeaboo games are bad, nor did I use the example quoted as "more normal".
You actually said "A game isn't odd because it's not a testosterone-filled quake wannbe gory shooter." I couldn't agree with you more and never said differently?
But they aren't lumping them together, using Walt Disney as well as domesticated animals they are specifically being put on a context basis.

They are all 3d games though, when it comes down to it, its just an art style.
Also I dont know who "they" is, im referencing your post about proportions implicates anime is for creeps
As for deflecting: "Do you have some sort of thing against Japanese people? There's a word for that. I think I used it there in that quote you took from me." LOL
There's a mixture of it in here and in the Gravity Rush 2 thread, and I decided to put it in here as Char had made a thread about the backlash specifically brought on by the reception this game received. You can see some of them yourself "Japan Studio game LOL" or "looks like a game for weeaboos and little girls," Among some in this thread. Also, these same types that I was targeting with my response actually do think that every game developed in Japan is a weaboo game. There are people who somehow think that everything developed in Japan is a "weaboo." You don't have to look far to see them here really -- Char has made a good amount of threads pointing out the PS4 RPG library and such, where the response by these layers is that everything exclusive to the PS4 is "weaboo." Quite an alarming conception.
Also what I am doing by pointing out your issue with my post towards these types is not deflecting. Context is important, especially when there is a sea of posts and you can pick which ones you have an issue with enough to type out a response on a forum. I, having read some of the backwards remarks people made about Gravity Rush 2 and "weaboo" games, decided to draw those types out to expose themselves. What I was simply pointing out was how you have taken more of an issue with me for responding viscerally to these people.
@mazuiface: To drag in posts from other threads and have expected me to know what you're talking about is daft. Not only is it impossible to read every thread in SW its impossible to respond to every post in a large thread, you have to pick and choose. In this thread there has been no widespread bashing of Japan or Japanese games. Indeed part of my coming into this thread was to try and head off the west vs east spin people would put on it. You used generalised terms and I could have no way of knowing you were referring to other threads more than this one and responded not knowing or without any context. If you re-read your remarks purely within the context of this thread you might have a different opinion of how this conversation should have gone :P
Testosterone games make logical sense. Men in military service, be it now or 700 years ago, had and have to be strong as nails. Being sociopathic, with a muscular build is a positive attribute in war.
A girl wearing almost nothing, running around with a sword clearly too large for her to actually carry, as well as (more to the point) being completely counterproductive to combat is stupid.
This guy looks like he could kick your ass -
This guy looks like he will break into a power ballad -
From a practical standpoint, the West understand the logistics of physical conflict better.
