[QUOTE="NielsNL"][QUOTE="Veterngamer"][QUOTE="NielsNL"][QUOTE="Veterngamer"]Lair....
the size of a flop isn't determined by the popularity of the game, but the difference of what it was hyped at, and what it actually received.... therefore LAIR is the flop KING!

Are you the one who determines the rules for floppage here?
That was a rhetorical question..
Are you for real?
that was not rhetorical.
When a game flops its because of SCORE... therefore the size of a flop would be determined by SCORE.... is it really that hard to figure out?
Now that WAS rhetorical.
And who are you to decide that it's just about score? That things like impact on SW and commercial succes of a game shouldn't be factored in?
OKay then..... so then TP & Mass Effect are not flops, because they were commercial successes..... I wasn't the one who decided what a flop was.... SW did, I'm just following the rules.... ever notice how a game is labeled a flop or not, as soon as the score is given.... Hmmm.... geee.... I wonder why that is.....

otherwise I"m gonna end up getting suspended for telling you some other truths.
Exactly my point. If a game sells well, it's no flop. TP, ME, RFOM and Motorstorm shouldn't be considered flops, even though they were in terms of score relative to hype. My problem is in the: "I'm just following rules" part of your post. You can think for yourself right? Would you yourself consider a game a flop because people here thought it would get AAA but it got AA? I wouldn't if it sold very well.
And that last sentence of yours makes you look a little dumb. Truths? So SW holds the truth nowadays?
why are you including good games? or games that were just scores bad despite being great?
Lair is without a doubt, the biggest flop, no questions asked. It was a classic example of why you shouldn't hype a game soley for graphics.
Lair, by a mile.
I can't understand anyone saying Resistance, ME, NG2, MP ... these games missed their hype by 0.5 thats a flop but not a giant one, in no way can they be called the biggest flops ever. Anyone who says so is saying so for pure fanboy reasons.
In the history of SW I'd say the biggest flops were:
1: Lair
2: Killzone
3: Brute Force
4: TP

ive sat here and read yalls conversation all throughout this topic. and the way it goes is....score determines a flop, not sales. if a game flops because of score, you can bring up sales numbers all you want because its gonna be weeks or months later until you can get the figures and try to say "see, its selling super well" but by that time everyones moved on to the next game to hit or miss and the only responses your gonna get are "FLOP." no one sits around making SW bets over how much a game sells.

But if you look at games in retrospective like this topic does, why not include these things? Otherwise this thread has one correct answer, Lair, and can now be closed.
"NielsNL"
because in SW we mostly hype a game by score not sales figures. some people talk about sales, but since its mostly about the score then thats what we follow. it is kinda funny that if a game is hyped AAA and gets an AA but sells 2,000,000 copies in 3 months, its still a flop. but if a game is hyped AAA and gets AAA and only sells 500,000 total lifetime then its no flop. and also the flopped game will be called casual and the game that didnt flop will become "hardcore." this place does have some pretty dumb rules....but SW is fun.
edit: i also forgot to say that the topic is "biggest flop in system wars" not "biggest sales flop" which would be a whole different topic.
[QUOTE="the-very-best"]I completely agree. In terms of failing to meet the target score, Lair.
In terms of SW reaction, TP.
heretrix
As do I. The day of the TP review was the funniest day in SW history.
99 nights? what the heck is that? Anyways my vote goes for Mass Effect.Popadophalis
In what way did Mass Effect flop?
Lair.
How on earth is Zelda, Metroid, Resistance, Mass Effect, Motorstorm and Ninja Gaiden 2 up there? Some of these game are like 90+ ratings on metacritic/gameranking and have sold over a million copies. How do you define a flop.
Anyways, the biggest one up there is Lair. It was a flop to cows and a flop to the majority of system wars who believe that graphics are all a game needs in order to be good/fun and that for games, gameplay is totally irrelevant.
How does this thread determine the biggest flop of systemwars histroy, when the only games you;ve mentioned are from this gen and killzone?
where's fable? brute force? Blinx the time sweeper? mario sunshine? doom 3?
motorstorm, ninja gaiden and metroid prime 3 arent even close to being the massive flops that some games from last gen were.
this thread fails.
Those are just games I mentioned...they were from the top of my head. I began posting here during the pre-next gen (360,PS3,Wii) days so I don't know all of the games that have flopped. I listed those games just to give people an idea. Feel free to suggest other major flops. How does this thread determine the biggest flop of systemwars histroy, when the only games you;ve mentioned are from this gen and killzone?
