Nah I think Zelda has it in the bag. I have some reservations about the game but overall Nintendo really did deliver upon the hype which is rare these days. My Wii U finally got some action in what felt like an eternity.
But it was a reaction. Now you're trying to justify yourself to cushion it.
Yeah and I'm reacting to your character, not the content of your post.
But the post itself depends entirely on character.
The great irony here is, in attempting to make the point of irrelevancy, you've almost single handedly made it relevant.
By making such a (repeated) offensive attempt to denounce me, personally. It's practically an advertisement that in same way, shape or form you've been profoundly effected as to be motivated.
The fact that I do not troll now beyond maybe the token post is out of personal choice. On inspection, the community as a whole has decided to fritter away or simply, can't be bothered.
Bla.

It will be hard just because for Nintendo fans a zelda game is like a religious experience and a good one is like the second coming of christ is to christians. So in the end, even in a year where we have a glut of great games on the horizon they don't stand a chance, just because this is Zelda, and a good one at that.

Yes, and as we all know, this industry is full of Nintendo fans.
@charizard1605: It certainly is. You only have to see some of the scores Skyward Sword managed to achieve to see that. We can both agree BOTW is up there with the best this year no matter what...and we can both agree SS wasn't. It stands at 93% on metacritic.

I can agree with that
Red Dead Redemption 2 will very likely be a strong contender. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Mario Odyssey are also potential candidates. Anyway a review alone does not lock a GotY candidate because it is by one person whereas GotY is done by committee. Having said that though it does seem that praise for Breath of the Wild is pretty much unanimous.
Red Dead Redemption 2...close second could be Mario? A third for me would be Horizon, I've heard nothing but good things about that game and it's a new IP
Any game could, 10/10 or no 10/10. *points to Galaxy 2*
Yeah, or Bayonetta 2, or Uncharted 4, or GTA4, or MGSV.
Well, we know for sure it won't be a Microsoft first party game. They are still working on getting their games to score higher than 7/10.
Super Mario Odyssey could top it, seriously.
I always liked 3D Mario more than 3D Zelda by default, being a huge platformer fan. Botw is my gotg, but if any game could top it, it's Super Mario Odyssey. True sequel to Super Mario 64

Thats cause critics arent a bunch of butthurt fanboys jealous of such a masterpiece. Its such an awesome game its user score has increased over the years. It was around 7.3, now its almost an 8.0.
Same thing is happening to Breath of the Wild. It was a 7.5, now its a 8.3 and increasing.
I would be really surprised, if anything can beat Zelda this year. It got high scores, has a really high MC score, has an attach rate of OVER 100% on the Switch and we already had Zelda GotYs before
Red Dead has a chance, but I don't see Rockstar straying too far from the open world formula that so many have copied. Zelda is getting mad recognition for bucking those tired trends and essentially pushing open worlds into new and more progressive territory.
Mario Odyssey has a shot as well, but can they make an open world platformer work with today's standards? I honestly think there hasn't been a game of its kind that's held up.
Overall it'll probably go to RDR2. Mainstream media will always go with the big western games and it definitely helps that it's releasing in the 2nd half of the year, a Rockstar game at that. Just like how Overwatch was the biggest gaming event last year, this year it'll be RDR2.
I still remember the disgrace of mainstream media picking Dragon Age: Inquisition and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor over Bayonetta 2.
My personal GOTY will probably be between Zelda and Mario.
nah, everyone and their mothers are too infatuated with this game. That and the fact that is Zelda. I'm most sure it'll take most GOTYs. I don't know if it deserves it or not. I'll probably never play it
With the new movie coming, the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 could if its good. A Star Wars game with an actual good plot in single player thats relevant to the current movies would steal all the hype.
Crackdown 3 could also if they really deliver the fully destructible world just on tech prowess. thats a big if though.
Any game could, 10/10 or no 10/10. *points to Galaxy 2*
Yeah, or Bayonetta 2, or Uncharted 4, or GTA4, or MGSV.
uh go **** yourself, Bayonetta 2 is way more deserving of its praise than the other 3 games.
I never said it isn't?
I just named 10/10 games that didn't get GotY

It deserves it. You should play it.
Yeah. This year has been excellent with Persona 5, Nioh, Nier and Horizon Zero Dawn. It's also not over yet with games like Mario and Xenoblade coming.
I think we will get quite a diverse list of winners by the year end.
Why does everyone keep thinking Xenoblade is coming this year?
The funny thing is that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be overrated just like most Rockstat games and STILL won't be able to take the spot away from Zelda. BotW is THAT good.
The only game that has a chance is Odyssey. And it would need to be Galaxy 2 level to even be in the ballpark let alone be better than Zelda.

Because it's announced for this year?

I dont think its coming either. They just started the music for it. I say one more year.

I should but I probably wont. Same case as Bayonetta 2. I'm not willing buying one console for one game alone. Only time will tell if the Switch puts up more games that will interest me but as it is, Zelda is not worth $300 alone. No game is

The infatuation is real and Charizard is the least objective person when it comes to this game.
@joe_b1_kenobi: I think Red Dead 2 stands to take the GoTY. So much hype already, I just hope it lives up to it.
Not a chance, unless a particular media outlet is going for the "even negative press is good press" and snubs BoTW just to generate hate traffic.
Depends if TLOU Part 2 gets released this year..... Also got Days Gone too....
Lol, seriously?
Anyway, we won't know until the end of the year... still have a lot to come out yet.

And Breath of the Wild was supposed to come out in 2015... So yeah, don't expect it to come out this year just because they say it will.

So the same logic can also apply to Red Dead Redemption 2, no?

What? Are you surprised he thinks TLOU2 might get released this year, or that it could possibly be GOTY material? If it's the former, then yeah I agree, if it's the latter then you don't know much about the series I guess.
Obviously that it might get released this year... it'll be lucky to be out by 2019 ffs.
Sony gotta stick to their strategy of announcing games 5 years early & hyping the shit out of it at each E3/PSX & watch cows go apeshit over it. lol.
@metalslimenite: I am honestly just going by Nintendo's launch year. Not that I expect them to meet this, but just taking the information I have rather than making predictions. :P
@metalslimenite: Are we talking Xenoblade Chronicles X or the first title on Wii?
I understand either way. Yes you get a sense that the production values worked great for the sense of scale the game has but when things get up close and personal, it shows a lack of polish. And those cars in XCX. Oh boy. Hit detection this time, please. :P
