Can GT5 surpass halo3 sales?

Hate to break it to you but4 "exclusives" have already topped halo 3. Wii Sports(bundled i know), Wii Play, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii. And before you those ain't games those are casual crap, just remember that halo's as casual as it gets(and it's crap!)

EDIT: I think GT5 has a chance to pass Halo 3 since GT3 is the best selling PS2 game when it had around the same install base. I think this game will have legs with the DLC and other random support it'll get.

The Wii is the best selling console this gen and has a much larger install base then the 360, the PS3's on the other hand is smaller. GT3 was on the PS2 which was the top selling console last gen. GT3 was also a pack in at one point further inflating it's sales numbers. I won't say that GT5 outselling Halo 3 can't happen, I'll just be extremely surprised if it does.

1st Halo is not crap it was highly praised in almost all reviews with a 9.5 at gamespot

2nd Many of those games you mentioned for the Wii were bundled also, they are Wii games, there is no denying its successful sales

3rd GT3 sold throughout the lifetime of the PS2, so unless the PS3 is going match the sales of the PS2 :lol: , you might want to take a closer look at your reasoning.

GT5 could very well be the highest selling ps3 game... heck the demo only sold less then 1 million less then MGS4 which i think is the highest selling game on the ps3 atm... depending on the time of year the game launchs in...and what other games are coming out, i can see GT5 hitting close to 7 million easy

Scores mean nothing to me. SSBB is the only 9.5 game in the last year+ and that game is utter crap, most over rated game I've ever seen. Theres no way the PS3 will reach PS2 lifetime sales total. Hell I don't even think the Wii will reach there. But when GT3 released it was about the same install base as the PS3. I do believe that racing games dont have long sales bases. They sell a lot once its released buts thats pretty much it. But with Forza in the picture now, it could have stolen a part of the GT sales. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

In America? No. Worldwide? Definitely. The Europeans love Gran Turismo, it'll be a real system seller over there.

Let's look at it this way, did GT4 outsell Halo 2? NO, and that was on xbox's small market share vs the PS2's. I don't think it stands a chance at selling much more than half of Halo 3.

Given the 360s larger installed base, I don't think it's likely, however much I want GT5 to obliterate Halo 3. Plus, Halo is almost a cultural phenomenon, unlike the GT series.

Let's look at it this way, did GT4 outsell Halo 2? NO, and that was on xbox's small market share vs the PS2's. I don't think it stands a chance at selling much more than half of Halo 3.

well according to VGchartz yes. GT4 sold about 9.65 M. while halo 2 sold about 8.46M.

They were all on 2 of the most successful games consoles the industry has ever seen PS1 and PS2.

The PS3 is nowhere near as successful and that has been reflected by the sales for GT5p.

Add to that, there was no really competitor on consoles to previous GT titles until Forza 1 came along.

Many of the mainstream gamers have also migrated from the PS2 to the 360.

the ps3 is following the ps2's footsteps in sales wise, the ps2 didnt sell like hotcakes off the bat, it took a while. like they recently said, the system is only in its 3rd year.

to the people saying look at the install base...compare mgs3 to mgs4. most likely though it wont because it would have to sell a lot of systems and even if it did, 1 out of every 2-3 ps3 owners buying the game is very very unlikely.

edit:oh i see someone brought this up. and around 4 million for both mgs3 and mgs4. install base not so sure but seeing how it was released nov 04, im pretty sure the install base was very high.

maybe, if it can sell before word of mouth gets around that it does not have voice chat or damage or private races or friends list support or whatever else Poly leaves out that has been standard in race games for the last 5 years that they can't seem to do.
