P5 is easily going to be one of the best games of the year

Pffft, Scalebound, a spanking new IP featuring your very own pet dragon >>>>>>>> Persona Rehash. Just sayin. :P
I remember how SW had non-stop praise for Persona 4 for the last few years... And now SW has turned on it with non-stop bashing. Has something changed around here?
3 potential reasons,
1) Different people speaking.
2) But I also think another reason is that more and more people are getting acquainted with Visual Novels. So where Persona excelled in the past to people's eyes. It now finds itself outdone in its once were strengths by the Visual Novel genre.
3) Lack of Charizard activity in thread :P
@Juub1990: The fact that it's optional means you don't have to see it or deal with it so that's very relevant. If you had to establish social links in order to progress in the game then I could see why you would need to address it. But that's like judging Elder Scrolls Skyrim for the fast travel option.

No offense or meaning to question you in any way Maroxad.
Have you played any Persona games and completed them before? Asking as i've never accross anyone Hating on Persona 3 FES or Persona 4 after completing them. :)
I really liked Persona 4 and have high hopes for 5 but the one I'll go with is Original Sin 2. It seems to improve on all aspects of the first, including writing, with 4 times as many writers and Chris Avelone in the team. It is also crazy ambitious and it's actually pushing the genre forward.
I'll probably like Persona the most personally, but they all look to be good so I think they might all be winners.
@killered3: Sorry but it doesn't work like that. Just because it's optional doesn't exempt it from criticism. 80% of the things in TES or Fallout are optional, we still take them in account. Making something optional isn't a pass to free it from being criticized.
@Juub1990: Maybe that's how you see it but you have to admit it's pretty ridiculous to criticize the optional features.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 will definitely be the better game. Larian blew me out of the water with the first game, and the sequel is shaping up to be an absolute beast of a game.

Touched a bit of Persona 2.
Played Persona 4 to the end (true ending). Took me around 1 real life year to beat it. Namely because I put it down whenever social linking sessions were up and I often didnt return until a few weeks later.
Got persuaded to get Persona 4 Golden. Rescued Yukiko, then realized I had nothing but social linking to look forward to for the next few ingame weeks. Put it down and never touched it again. Played CastleVania on the vita instead. Instant gratification!
After I played SMT Devil Survivor 2 and barely enjoyed it, I figured out why I never got into Persona 4 and why I didnt like the thing that turned me off (social linking). The FATE system was just as awful as Persona's Social Linking system.
From then on out, I have made a mental note to myself to NEVER get a game again which has a system that has a Social Linking esque system, they are a red flag to me. I trust my chances to enjoy those kinds of games as much as I trust Hillary Clinton. And you probably know how much I bash her in the OT boards :P
My dismal experience with Persona 4 and my lack of trust for Social Linking has made playing Persona 3 a no-go. I watched 2 episodes of the movie of Persona 3, and my opinion of the thing is so far,
I'm personally more pumped for both Divinity:OS2 and Scalebound. Doesn't mean I'm not hyped for Persona 5, because I am, but my hype is definitely dying out some for the game.
Persona V is not big outside of Japan I don't know how fanboys don't know this a lot of gamers don't even know what Persona is
A lot of games don't know what scalebound is either, less gamers know about divinity original sin 1 and 2 than either one of the other games by a huge chunk.
Final Fantasy 15 > Kingdom Hearts 3 > Kojima's next game > Nier Automata > Persona 5 > World of Final Fantasy > Ni-Oh > Gravity Rush 2 > Dark Souls 3 > The Last Guardian > The King of Fighters XIV and Tekken 7 > Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game > Scalebound

Seems you like all the games which i do also :P
Shame we just didn't agree on Half Life HeHe

Maybe if I played the game years ago when it came out, or maybe you have too much nostalgia for it. From what I've seen and heard, the gameplay has very bad shooting mechanics.
I don't like portal either (gameplay wise)
I could be wrong between the two of us but from what I see, you're just heavily nostalgic and falling forthe hype, much like how a lot of people think that valve is a perfect company when they ocassionally actually do scummy things and get a free pass because of the fanboyism with Half Life and Portal.
Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty good, overhyped as well but still the best of their games.
Destroy in what way? "Critic" scores or sales? I think Divinity OS and Persona will score close together and probably sell as many games. Scalebound is a wild card.

Outside Japan? Doubt it.
Persona's lifetime sales is at around 6 million spanning 5 mainline games, 6 spin offs, 6 remakes and a bunch of enhanced ports and dozens of mobile games. All these few dozen games have a combined sales of 6 million copies sold, and Persona is far bigger in japan than it is in the west.
Divinity: Original Sin: Enchanced Edition sold over one million on Steam alone. This means that the console ports and Gog versions are not counted.
And those are just the statistics. On a personal anecdote, next to no one in my university knew what Persona was... Divinity: Original Sin on the other hand.
Quality wise - oh definitely
Sales wise - Divinity might win but Scalebound is going to sell the worst.
Easily. Don't think Scalebound or Divinity Original Sin 2 got any chance of competing against Persona V on any level. Its my opinion tho.
What say you? :)
wo wo wo , that's enough otaku ... , don't make me to get out of this chair
Its pretty clear most of the users ripping Persona V never played any persona games or got any idea about its gameplay. Just ripping it apart on basis of it being a jrpg and teenage characters.
Only issue i had with P4 was the dungeons and the having to wait till the end of the game to use some persona's. And the social linking could of been better, was all the same.
No game in recent years has offered freedom and reward as Divinity: OS in 2014. It also had the best turn based combat in a long time. It was easily the best RPG of 2014. Seriously, I can't do it justice here. Those who've played the game know, what I'm talking about.
You have to play the game to know how epic it is. I think Divinity: Original Sin 2 (which looks like a huge improvement over the original, which was already an amazing game) is going to be best RPG of the year when it is out. So no, Persona won't even come close IMO.
NieR: Automata slays all of the above, except in sales cuz Platinum + NieR. Might beat Scalebound in sales though, Platinum + Xbox exclusive sounds like a disaster.
This thread reminded me of the RPG greatness coming to the PS4. Persona 5, NieR, FFXV, Horizon, DQXI, Ni-Oh, not even gonna mention all the lower tier JRPGs coming. It's unprecedented!

Exactly. It's refreshing to see some innovation in today's industry. Some of the stuff that Divinity OS 2 is doing have never been done before in RPG. It's really raising the bar.
Scalebound is been made by Platinum, so no P5 won't destroy it. In fact, I don't have a lot of faith in P5. P4 was amazing, but the 3 games prior, and the spin offs since, have hardly been great.
They made Transformers too.

While I do agree that Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking to raise the bar. Whereas the other 2 games are merely trying to meet it. What is it D:OS 2 is doing that has never been done before?
Edit: I do wonder though. Will Divinity: Original Sin become the Ultima of our day?
Ultima was always that one RPG franchise up to 7. That always looked to raise the bar for all other RPGs to meet. Be it in technology, narrative or game design. Divinity is already there in terms of game design, but how about the other 2 (CD Projekt Red got those fronts)? That would be great.
Divinity 2 easily. I wouldn't waste my time on Persona even if I got it free, and Scalebound I don't have the correct console for. I'd consider playing it, though, if I got it cheap.

Persona is awesome and Scalebound should also be on pc
Didn't know that about Scalebound, maybe I'll grab it on a Steam sale. As for Persona, no, nothing about it even remotely interests me. I'd even go as far as saying many things about it are outright repelling. The art style, character style, general theme, game mechanics...no thanks.
@indzman:
Compete in what? WW Sales? no
Metacritic? Not likely.
Interest? Nope.
Sales in japan? Yeah I guess it can win that one.
Can it's do better than those game, perhaps. Will it...............none of us can answer that. I don't know how popular Persona is outside of the Asian market, what is the sales numbers of the other games in the U.S. and Europe? When you're franchise reaches the 5th it should be able to outsell any new I.P. though so if it doesn't, that's a bad look.
Soundtrack, visuals, gameplay, is what will Kamiya push forwards.
Mind you, this is the point where I'll admit SB might flop to high heavens, because, as with any dream, it can succeed or fall flat on its face. Kamiya's been looking forward to making this game for years. Either it will be exactly what he dreamt about, and I'll take it like that. Or it will fail to be what he thought it was gonna be.
In short, of all people involved, I'm betting on Kamiya, because he's cool.

Well, origin stories in DOS 2 if done well, might make it a lot better. I mean, your own party member can become a threat later on because of conflict between different races or different origins.
This is something that will make MP a lot more fun as well, where two players will be having two different experiences and will be joining two different factions that are at war with each other.
They will have to resolve their issues by taking everything into account or kill one another to survive. As far as I know, I don't think any game have done it this way in MP at least.

Ahh yeah, forgot about that. Been playing quite a bit of tabletop D&D as of late, so I wrongfully took that for granted.
It could make side questing really fun in Divinity 2. Now that you might be working against your allies.
D:OS2 brings us closer to tabletop RPGs.
Persona 5 brings us... waifus?
I dont like Waifus, and generally avoid them, but I do like tabletop RPGs. So Divinity ftw.
Seriously, I really dont like Waifus. In Fire Emblem Awakening, I avoided getting S support on anyone, and in Fates I will do the same.
Edit: I mention Fire Emblem because I wouldnt even play Persona 5 even if it was free, at this point.
Only fear with Divinity OS: 2 is that they're focusing more on MP then SP. It's all cool having fun with friends in the game, but for me single-player is how you really get immersed into the world and understand the story more. Multiplayer is more for banter and fun. I have lots of faith in Larian though, so this most likely won't be a problem.
I know I'm going to enjoy Divinity OS2 much much more than P5... Doubt that's going to be the popular choice as P5 hype train is pretty strong
