Can Sony Shake this Bad Stigma

As all of you kno, the ps3 just recently got a price drop to 299. So naturally, i went to some of my friends and told them about it. Almost all of them responded by saying, "oh the ps3 has no good games tho". This still puzzles me. I could understand if they said this in like 2007 or something, but its mid to late 2009. The ps3 has a ton of great games, but for some reason, whenever i talk to some of my other gamer friends, they completly write it off.

My question is, will sony ever be able to shake off that stigma amongst mainstream gamers, and if so, how.

The list you gave me of PS3 games proved my point.

Stigma doesn't keep people from buying a console. If that was true, then the Xbox360 wouldn't sell at all.

MGS4 is the type of game that enhances the OMG I NEED this system. Like the PS2 - its killer apps were Grand Theft Auto III and Final Fantasy X, while Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry and Jak and Daxter supported this.

Maybe it's that some can't afford the 360 and PS3 so the pick one and bash the other out of anger. Just saying :) Because there both great consoles with plenty of entrainment value.

I think we'll see with Uncharted 2.

The problem with the PS3 is they don't have anything that has the appeal of Gears, let alone Halo. Nintendo has Mario and Zelda, and now the Wii "insert generic name" games.

What does Sony have? Once they get their killer app things will get better for them. With the exception of GT5, I don't see any of the upcoming or existing franchises being able to be that must have game for the PS3.

So maybe no is the answer.

Well I didn't refuse the fun of the PS3 because it has plenty of games alot it shares with the 360 that I like I guess I just get to have more fun plus a great blueray player. So hate it if you want it's your loss. :)

The problem is that it isn't really anybody's loss. Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4 and whatever else isn't enough to justify a $300 console to many people.

On the other hand, Halo 3 has sold more than Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 AND Uncharted combined.

Do your friends happen to own 360's? It's possible to be a lemming even without knowing what one is apart from a very silly animal.

Give me a number because there is alot more than what you've listed so how many would justify it. Even if you don't think there is enough exclusives it still share alot with the 360 and less failures. I love my 360 and PS3 but all the bashing is crazy their both great units period.

Halo 3 and Gears of War alone have outsold Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, Uncharted, Infamous and Ratchet and Clank combined.

Now, sales do not determine the quality of a game but this should tell you something.

The PS3 just doesn't have any killer-apps, which is why people are not willing to pay $299 for it.

Compare to the PS2 which had tons of great games almost instantly and was $299 and $199 like within 2 years.

I mean I know the PS3 has games, but you gotta think of this on the grand scale of things.

You've got MGS4, LBP, Killzone 2, Infamous, and Resistance as AAAe games right? It's not possible to convince 24+ million people to get those games, and only those games, so as of now when someone sees the PS3 and says it has no games they just might be correct. It doesn't have the variety of the other systems aside from the Wii, so I can see where consumers are coming from when they say something like that.

I personally don't care about any of the games for the PS3 except maybe Valkyria Chronicles. Not going to buy one though because I just think it's a glorified blu-ray player :P Maybe next year.

This is a great tipic becuase I have fallen In love my Ps3 (finally) becuase the games are getting better and my friends also brush it off saying that the 360 has better games. Becuase the Ps3 and 360 are so similar but the 360has more games, i really do not think that they can beat that thought process. I really think where they make their mistake was not keeping exclusives as well as they did on the Ps2. I really think Sony became arrogant at the start of this generation and underestimated the competition this created massive failure in alot of ways. (The mini Psp at $250 is another such missfire that will only hurt Sony in the long run)

Problem is Uncharted, Infamous, Ratchet and Clank are all low-tier exclusives that no one outside of their fanbases care about. 360 has Halo, Forza, Gears of War, Fable, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, and a lot more.

I really don't ever see sony getting out of third place this gen. They don't hae the wii's appeal and they aren't know as the console for online shooters. That puts them in a pretty bad niche.

The media probably. Unless a game gets overhyped as something it's not then it won't sell, or get recognized :(

I find it funny that the people who are bashing the ps3's line up either are a blantent fanboy or have some nintendo charater as their avatar.

The Ps3 has some of the very best games this generation (Disgea 3, Val Chronicals, Pixel Junk Monsters, Saveage Moon ect), but I swear they need to fire the people that decide the prices of hardware if they want to make it. (Psp for 250 anyone? no i did not think so either lol)

True but for example L4D and Mass effect can be played on PC (and you dont need a super duper PC to play them at a consistent rate) and noways EVERYONE has if not a single laptop that can run at least L4D in medium, that cuts two of them.

Forza has GT to compete.

that leaves exatly what iv said major one three: fable, gow, halo.

while ps3's list its exclusive for the console, and might not be million upon million its still GOTY material(not exatly winners).
