Can the Xbox 360 be defended...

Can you make an argument that the Xbox 360 is the best console considering the following points:

1. Possible 33% failure rate

2. The only console that makes you pay for online play

3. Short life cycle (opinion)

4. Disc space issues (PGR4, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, UT3)

5. Not a lot of great exclusive titles in 08

6. Rumors of Bungie leaving

7. Disc Scratching issues

8. Worst design (opinion)

It has great games worth playing now as well as 2008. Some gamers don't buy a new game every 2-3 weeks so they won't worry about 2008's lineup. I myself only buy about 6-8 a year.coolviper2003

i like to buy big games but i pretty much never buy full priced games cus i do have the money but its not worth it to me. i dont want to buy a game ever week like you said.

Biggest bang for the buck gaming system with the best games and the best warranty !

Easiest this gen console to defend especially compared to a 600.00 movie player and a 250.00 last gen console with games to match ! ;)

Heck - a last gen xbox with Halo 1 & 2 & NGB is a better buy then a Wi at this time ! :D

The xbox 360 has better games is an argument I hear a lot

I think this is only becuase it was released earlier. According to game rankings, the Xbox 360 had 5 AAEs after 11 months, most of which were at launch. It took an entire year for the 360 to get its first AAA (gears of war) yet people are getting on the PS3 because it doesn't have that. If Ratchet and Clank gets AAA, then the PS3 will have its first AAA FASTER then the 360.

I also think that the PS3's spring 2008 lineup will tie it with the Xbox 360 and Final Fantasy (probably in fall) will put it forever ahead. With games like God of War III in 2009 the PS3 won't look back from there.

There is also a lot of people that seem to think the PS3 is dead. Once the PS3 gets a price drop and games it should overtake the 360 in sales. I think that microsoft may decieve some people in too thinking that they have sold more consoles then they really have. Microsoft only releases the number of 360's have SHIPPED not sold.

It doesn't really need to be defended. I'll play along for the fun of it.

1) This has never been proven.

2) The online service is superior to other consoles, so the fee is justifiable. This is what the XBox Live fee is used for --->http://console.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTIwOCwxLCxoY29uc29sZQ==

3) Yeah.. that's just your opinion. The XBox 360 could last for 7-8yrs. No one knows.

4) I have no problems with multiple disc games. There were several of these on the PS1 & PS2 and it didn't bother me. I think PGR4 and UT3 will be on 1 disc.

5) There are some nice exclusives for 2008. Fable 2, Banjo 3, Too Human, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Bully: Scholership Edition, Culdcept Saga, Dead Space, Halo Wars, Possession, Shadowclan and lots of other unannounced titles. The real difference is the XBox 360 is getting a lot of NEW IP Exclusives while the PS3 is getting mostly Exclusive Sequels (FF, R&C, GT, HSG5, KZ, MSG, etc..). I'm sure M$ will have more exclusive sequels announce as well. There will definitely be another Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Condemned, Forza, Gears of War and many other within the next 2 yrs.

6) The rumor is that Bungie is buying their name back using shares of stock. They aren't leaving because they areowned by M$.

7) None of my discs have ever been scratched and I've been using my system since launch. If gamers just played their XBox 360 horizontally, they would never see any scratched discs.Moving the 360 while a disc is playing is a "no, no!":lol:

8) The Virtual Boy was the worse design if you ask me. The Atari Jaguar was a close 2nd. The Xbox 360's innards weren't designed perfectly, but it's getting fixed and that's all the matters at this point.

Yes, the failure rate is a problem, I admit that, but it can be prevented. Keeping it at a well ventilated area and not playing for more than 4 hours at a time prevents those issues.

3. Short life cycle (opinion) - just becuase they have not shown their 08 line up and are saving it, does not mean they will stop making good games. In your HONEST opinion do you REALLY think that the richest company in the world will not be able to afford to make games in 08. Please.

5. Not a lot of great exclusive titles in 08 - used this twice, pretty much goes with short life cycle. Read above.

6. Rumors of Bungie leaving - Bungie cannot leave, and if the people of the team leave they cannot take the story. Learn what it means to BUY a company, which is what microsoft did.

7. Disc Scratching issues - Those issues have not been brought up since the console came out, digging for straws.

8. Worst design (opinion) - again you throw in your opinion. The design is pratical, and i do not care if it matches my design scheme. Not to mention it is the only console where you can change its appearance. It is also getting a design upgrade, so yea it can last.

Your thread was about last gen arguments being used to defend the PS3, this tread is about the majority of system wars supported a console that doesn't seem to doing very well.

I did read some of your thead, has the thread went on it seemed more and more that it wasn't just about last gen arguments but an argument against the PS3.
