I never used to think this was a possibility, but I'm not so sure now. The PS3 may very well have hit its peak in terms of performance, and multi-plats on the 360 will begin pulling ahead during the years to come! Think about it, developers are starting to admit that they can do more with the 360 and the PS3 is kind of holding them back!!!

 multiplats are not even concidered when performance is in the discussion. Exclusives show the power of each system.

Did you read it? EA is producing it. They couldn't knock their way out of a wet paper sack. Let alone produce a decent game on the PS3.

Because multiplats don't push the systems to each's unique edge. Whichever system the multiplat starts on is going to have the advantage. Like Turok, or Burnout.

Not even close. If anything the 360 is closer to its peak since it has been out for a year longer and thus devs have had more opportunity to work with it.

EA didn't even bother to get Skate to run at a decent framerate for the PS3, just shows how lazy they are, and i'm pretty sure EA was in charge of the orange box for PS3. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Simply, the PS3 is harder to develop for. While it does have more power, most developers are happy to tap the same amount of power as the 360 version in order to make them look the same. Blasted Cell, stupid Sony.

Some developers are already doing more with the PS3 than the X360, so maybe it's not that "stupid." Playstations have always been hard to program for because of their unique architecture, but they've always had a long life cycle and games have always gotten better and better on the system. Look at what devs can do on PS2 today it's pretty amazing.

lol they never said it had to do with hardware, they started developing the engine since 360 lanch for 360 and they havnt started yet on the PS3....thats why they would have limitations, i mean 360 cant even run the Wardevil 1080 Real Time Engine. so no.. please read b4r talking s*** about things

Did anyone read the link??? It seems to have been known for a while now that it takes more time and effort to get the PS3 to do the same things as the 360.

I have a better question for you, did you read the article they were quoting, cause ign does and absolutely abysmal job of paraphrasing in this one.

The paragraph the 'gimp' quote comes from is below.

"Sony has seen the game so they know that that's what they want out of us. But I can absolutely assure you that the PS3 and the 360 will be the same. We're not going to gimp the 360 because the PS3 can't do it. We're going to optimise the crap out of it and make the PS3 really good, sort of like Burnout."

Followed by this quote.

"I'm from an artist background. But from a developer point of view it's called the Fill Rate. It (the PS3) can't handle the physics as well. I mean it can, you just have to get at it. Just more and more engineering. Special effects are tough. It's a beautiful machine and it is very powerful. It's just it's not as easy to develop for right now."

So, if you read the first quote, they clearly state that they are going to make the 360 version as good as they can, period, and they aren't going to pull any punches just becuase supposedly the ps3 'can't do it'. Then he goes on to say that the two versions are essencially going to be identical and that the ps3 is a 'very powerful' machine, that is 'hard to develop for.'

But before any lemmings start jumping up and down about how hard the ps3 is to develop for, dude goes on to explain why:

"What happened was the 360 came out a year ahead, so we started developing early on it. Then all of a sudden it was the lead SKU. So it won for two years. For two years it was the one we were just working on. And so our knowledge base is around that. Now you see the tide is starting to turn especially in Europe. So it's really just engineering catching up with it."

In other words, they have a two year head start, along with everyone else, on the 360 and now, like everyone else, they have to learn how to engineer games on the ps3, which takes time if they want to be as good at it as they are on the 360. Sounds to me like all these complaining developers don't like to learn something new, whereas those with a realistic outlook on the industry simple put there noses to the grindstone and figure it out so they can make some money.

And, to end the post off, pretty much all the games coming out for the ps3 are using 20 to 50 percent of it's power, as Naughty Dog states here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6181783.html). Until we reach 3rd or 4th gen games on the ps3 look for graphical prowess and physics to consistently increase in quality.

Uncharted looks better than Gears and its only using 33% of PS3s SPUs power.

You logic fails. If system x is more powerful, yet the developer sucks at coding games for that system, but is good at it on system y, then system y will look better, yet system x is the more powerful system.

it seems that people seem to forget about games like Alan Wake, whom the developers themselves have said that it(pc version) would look very good when compared to the 360 version and that if you want the game to look like the 360s you will nedd at minimum dual core to quad core cpu to run it, they also claim mirror DX10 effects were being utilized on 360s version.another game that could crush Killzone 2 in graphics is Project Offset, and if that game looks like its PC counterpart they have been showing then it would look better. + maybe Gears of War 2 unreal Engine 3.5 reveal?

Console graphics King of 2007

1.tie Project Offset/Alan Wake

2.Killzone 2(very impressive looking and only at Beta stage)

3.Gran Turismo 5

4.Ninja Gaiden 2(team ninja hasn't optimized the code yet!)

5.Tie MGS4/Final Fantasy XIII if it releases.

 In order to tell which system was more powerful in any previous gen - all you had to do was compare multiplats side by side. Why is it that the PS3 all of a sudden gets a free pass to this to this simple and rather logical concept?

Because it's exclusives look BETTER than all the multiplats. You don't analyze the power of a system by looking at games that are obviously not the best games on the system.

Anyway, you misread the article... the devs say they are switching to the PS3 as the lead platform in order to avoid another gimped PS3 port. It has always been known that more effort goes into making PS3 games, this has to do with the architecture of the system. Third party devs such as Epic have already confirmed that it will be another 2-3 years before the PS3 reaches its peak b/c the hardware has so much potential that is still untapped by devs. At any rate, the PS3 is showing too many games that continue to be exponentially more impressive for anyone to seriously believe the PS3 has already reached its peak.

it seems that people seem to forget about games like Alan Wake, whom the developers themselves have said that it(pc version) would look very good when compared to the 360 version and that if you want the game to look like the 360s you will nedd at minimum dual core to quad core cpu to run it, they also claim mirror DX10 effects were being utilized on 360s version.another game that could crush Killzone 2 in graphics is Project Offset, and if that game looks like its PC counterpart they have been showing then it would look better. + maybe Gears of War 2 unreal Engine 3.5 reveal?

Console graphics King of 2007

1.tie Project Offset/Alan Wake

2.Killzone 2(very impressive looking and only at Beta stage)

3.Gran Turismo 5

4.Ninja Gaiden 2(team ninja hasn't optimized the code yet!)

5.Tie MGS4/Final Fantasy XIII if it releases.

Nameless-Hero

Project Offset may not even exist anymore... that game is vaporware and definitely hasn't been seen on consoles. And unlike Killzone 2, no one actually knows what the gameplay of Alan Wake looks like! And obviously, the 360 version will not look as good as the PC version so you are severely misinformed. No console game will ever look as good as a PC game running at its max settings, period.

Claim that the code for NG2 hasn't been optimized all you want... but so far, it is not worthy of even appearing in the top 5.

Also, none of those games can be king of 2007 as none come out until 2008 at the earliest.

Neither system has reached it's peak yet. Usuaully game consoles don't start reaching their peak until near the end of their lifecycle. The N64 reached it's peak when it released Donkey Kong Country. The PS2 reached it's peak with God of War & Okami. The XBox had games like Chronicles of Riddick, Fable, Halo 2 and Deus Ex at it's peak. The PS3 and XBox 360 haven't reached that point yet. They still have a ways to go.

I think this is a joke thread meaNT to show cows how foolish they are being when they say the 360 has hit its peak. When has a console ever hit its peak in the first 2 years? The peaK FOR THE 360 AND THE ps3 WILL BOTH BE REACHED WELL AFTER THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSOLE ARE RELEASED.

The ps3 has only been out 4 1 year so how could it be maxed ??

The only console that will hit a wall this year is probably the wii imo.

I think the peak for the PS3 will be reached in the next 2-3 years, or possibly right around the release of the next batch of consoles. I don't believe the 360 will be nearly as fortunate. While the machine still has some mileage to get out of it, we haven't seen that much advancement in the quality of visuals since Gears. Bioshock is my favorite looking game on the 360 this year... and that has more to do with the art direction than anything else.

Although I do believe that another problem with the 360 is that too many of its great games at this point are depending on the Unreal Engine. Perhaps if we see more custom engines it will begin to pump out even better graphics. The only great game I can think of that did NOT use UE last year was Halo 3... and that did not really impress graphically (as compared to other titles). But I think that Alan Wake could be the first on the 360 to begin impressing again.
