That ALL of Sony's first party are AAA powerhouses, and with the exception of the above, they arent ALL B-D tier studios, and that with the exception of the above, Sony has some ungodly super duper first party thats tiers above anything else?

I mean, when MS bought Obsidian of all studios, not to mention Playground, Ninja Theory, we had cows refering to them as "a bunch of B-D studios" like they were nobodys. More importantly, Like literally ALL of Sonys first party outside ND/SSM doesnt fit into that description. Seriously, who else besides those two doesnt fit that mold?

Sucker Punch? Guerilla Games?

Bend studios, who hasnt produced anything of value in decades, but featured prominently on cow "why sony first party is super duper" lists for years (for some reason). Just sayin.

Well Guerilla Games last game is AAA powerhouse with Horizon so that makes it three triple A studios. That's nothing to scuff at.

Naughty Dog has only made one great game. The Last of Us is the only one I would give any praise. The Uncharted series probably the most overrated of the past 2 generations.

Triggered fanboy alert!

So because 1 game failed to meet the high Standard Sony has set for their studios you go off on a wild fanboy rant about Sony studios not being AAA powerhouse?

lol poor guy, you do realize that most people actually expected Days Gone to not be up the the standard of other Sony studios right?

lol now you're trying to lash out a all other studios as if Days Gone's reception is some kind of validation of this insecurity you've obviously been holding in side for some time now?

Well MS had to close down a few studios....

But i don't understand the point. All great studios has a few hiccups. I don't believe there is one studio ever that hasn't had one.

What's Xbox's top studio? Playground? And they haven't made anything other than racers... they're still unproven in other aspects. Sony still has a great bunch of studios and IPs at their disposal. Talk big when those studios Xbox acquired turn out some steady hits.

What has Sony SM made beside God of War? Lets not dismiss a studio by saying "derp racer" plus we know PG is working on an RPG

That's like arguing what has Obsidian and InXile made beside RPG's....they're RPG studios..what else are they going to make?

343i makes FPS, Coalition makes TPS, Turn 10 makes racing.

Most studios only work on 1 maybe 2 genres of games. You can't fault the MLB studio for only making baseball games, they make damn good ones.

Sony Santa Monica has been developing and collaborating on games since PS2. Are you a broadband gamer or something? Playground has ZERO experience outside of racers, so we don't know how their other efforts will turn out. An RPG is a huge degree of difference from a racing game.

As it stands, they're the only Xbox studio that's delivered MS 90+ MC games for them this gen. But they're racers. Not exactly a genre that's moving the needle for any platform anymore (unless it's got Mario in it). Not sure why MS would trust them to deliver outside of their level of expertise.

I think people need to really analyze what tier a studio fits in.

Top tier or S- tier to me are studios that consistently find commercial and critical success in different IP's or genres. These are the very best in the industry. With games that consistently hit 9+ on metacritic never below an 8 and have good to great sales that go with it. In my mind ND and SSM are realistically the only two that would be in that category for Sony however that's pretty amazing because to me that's a very small category and honestly Microsoft has nobody in this tier. Top tier studios would be the following.

S-tier

Rockstar Games

CD Project Red

Sony Santa Monica

Naughty Dog

Nintendo

Blizzard

The second is is A tier. These are devs that score consistently in the mid 8 to 9s but never below an 8 with decent sales. And also find a way to do it in different genres or with multiple Ip's . Just outside of the elite. They would be the following.

A- tier

Capcom

From Software

Crystal Dynamics

Rocksteady

The Third is right below that. I think most people would call this B- tier but these are still great devs. These studios are ones that usually average 8 on MC with some 9s and have solid to good sales. They may also be one trick ponies meaning they have only done one very specific genre well which keeps them from being in the S or A tiers. They may have a few missteps along the way but never below a 7 and they are rare. Microsoft's best studios belong in this category and Sony has some of their best studios here as well. I would put the following studios on this list.

B-tier

Insomniac

343 studios

The Coalition

Gurilla Games

Sucker Punch

Turn 10

Ninja Theory

Obsidian

Media Molecule

Playground Games

Then next would be C tier. These are devs that may have a good mix of hits and misses. The best games they make score 8+ on MC with decent sales but they have quite a few 7s and some below. The following are

C-tier

Sony San Diego

Ubisoft Montreal

Polyphony Digital

Sony Japan

Bioware

Dice

Rare

The next would be D-tier. These are studios that consistently that really struggle to have any titles in the 8+ range or are just unproven and haven't released enough for us to have an idea of what their capable of.

D-tier

Sony Bend

Undead labs

Compulsion games

So honestly anything B-tier or up in my book is worth getting excited about. My list is mostly compromised of their work over the last 10 years as studios can change tiers over time.

@xhawk27: Playground games is only B-tier because they have only done one very specific genre and IP well. If they can do any other genre to the level of FH then they will be A-tier. If Halo Infinite hits 9+ 343 could move to A-tier as well. The list isn't set in stone. In my opinion Bioware went from an A to a C in recent years and Capcom went from a C to an A. It can change every few years. Guerilla and Sucker Punch or just outside of A-tier as well.

@Pedro: Because although they have only one proven IP The Witcher IP, 2 and 3 were still different genres. 2 was a more linear WRPG while in three they showed they could move to an open world RPG. Notice I said ( very specific genre) meaning they haven't deviated at all from their existing formula. They also had Thronebreaker which was a card game with a 9+ meta score.

No, they were not different genres. They were both RPG games. The Witcher series are and have always been part of one genre, RPGs. You have just invalidated yourself and your baseless categorization.
