[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"]its a shame Nintendo released the Wii considering 360 cost less and PS3 offers motion controls Sonic_on_crack

that just doesn't make sense. When nintendo launched the wii, it was the cheapest console on the market.

And the sixaxis doesn't compare to the wiimote.

even then it was only cheaper by $50 , the only reason people say the six axis doesnt compare is because it isnt as heavily emphasized , its the same exact technology.

No. The sixaxis doesn't do half of what the wiimote does. The sixaxis wouldn't let you play a game like Trauma Centre, or give you the aiming you get in RE4. Mario and Link's spin moves would be awkward to perform aswell. They are very different controllers.

I still can't get over the name of it.

What they should have done is what they always had in the past: Make a console with better graphics, a comfortable controller and a bunch of great exclusive games. Not a Gimmicky, shovelware, soccermom toy.

This is very true. While being "similar" technology, it's not the same.

The Sixaxis/DS3 probably utilizes accelerometers like the Wii Remote. However, the Wii Remote also has an IR sensor (which is more often used than anything else) and with Wii Motion +, it will gain even more to make it more sensitive.

They are both neat, but Nintendo's execution was better. Plus, the controller and console were designed around this feature while the PS3's motion control seem like they was thrown in at the last minute.

I love the Wii, initially it was the only 1 of the 3 that was actually priced affordably. Do you really believe if it wasnt for the appeal of the Wii Sony and Microsoft would of dropped there prices? No of course they wouldnt have, they wouldnt of had any need to. They did that to remain competitive and to try and take back some of the marketshare the Wii was stealing. Ive been gaming since 85, and I will never pay more then 300 for a console, no matter what else it does or what graphics it has.

I buy consoles to game, thats all and Microsoft and Sony shouldnt get credit for dropping the price after the fact because they realize most people arnt willing to pay huge amounts to game on a console. Nintendo kept prices affordable and won with innovation, while its not perfect its a step in the right dirrection.

yeah i regret buying my wii, i sold it lol, but of coarse it didn't suck, its just it could have been better but i figured: why tell everyone about that and get argued at, so i just kept it to my self. LESSON OF THE STORY: dont post this unless your trying to piss off wii owners (i could care less because i sold mine for good money for getting new games for my PS3).

but he is just stating his opinion so don't get mad at him.

and if your wondering the price i sold it for it was: $400.

Nope it still is a good idea. The only thing I think they personally should have worked on is the multiplayer system.. Because there is none on the Wii which is just unacceptable.. A quickmatch for 2 min games with no communcation in Brawl is not a online mulitplayer.. The main problem the Wii has is the third party devs don't tkae it seriously.. And damnit man who cares abou tthe graphics, games like mario galaxy, Zelda etc look great and don't need to be cutting edge to be good.

All I'm hearing is "graphics graphics graphics" and I'm sick of it. I'm glad that Nintendo went in another direction this gen and apparently LOTS of other gamers are as well. Why are graphics so emphasised this gen?

Vitro-Vivo

Graphics were emphasised every gen, by everyone. Last gen lemmings and sheep made certain to let the cows known they had better graphics. RE4 anyone?

It's just this gen that sheep don't seem to care about graphics. Strange isn't it?

No not by everyone. I can appriciate good graphics too but some posters act like that's all that matters. It isn't.

If you're going to play the "what fanboys said last gen" game, I'll play too. Last gen PS2 fanboys touted sales as the be-all end-all and dismissed graphics.

Here's one, the Wii is there because Nintendo have no choice. They have lost their domination and their 3rd Party Support to Sony, and they're backed against the wall. Someone might have thought about Nintendo doing HD, but then they realized that the development costs would've been so high that the Industry would head into a crisis. Long story short, if Nintendo did go HD, then the whole industry would've crashed because of high costs and we wouldn't even see games like MadWorld, Deadly Creatures, Boom Blox, De Blob, and NMH on the WIi.

Because they've never been an adult oriented company -- They've always appealed to the family/children.

Several developers and publishers have gone bankrupt, and that's because the only games that are selling are FPS and established franchises. In a generation where everyone's obsessed with HD, the development costs are just too high to risk trying something new. That's why there's such an oversaturation of FPS out in the market right now, because the price is too high to take a risk on a console like the PS3 or the 360. The Wii provides developers with a console to try new things and take risks.

What if developers want to make a console retail game, not a downloadable service game/portable. They have three choices. Xbox360 - expensive development cost PS3 - expensive development cost Wii - incredibly cheaper when compared to the other two, more market share = more chance to make a profit while providing value to the consumer.

I'm glad they made it because it's doing so well, after gamecube wasn't doing to good. I would hate to see nintendo go under, mainly because the NES was my first system and I remember playin it with my brothers when I was little (megaman 2 ftw :P). Good times. Although I hate how crappy the support is for it, I haven't played mine for months. Needs more quality games.

There is only one major things I disliked about Nintendo's approach with the Wii:

They underpowered it.

It is basically an over-clocked Gamecube which costs more than the current Xbox 360 Arcade unit. At the beginning of this generation, they chose to not take the leap into "HD" as its so-called. After spending quality time with a lot of the major releases on multiple platforms of this generation, I have come to the conclusion that it was an unwise decision. They could have easily put more power into the unit and still made a profit like they did with the Gamecube and N64 before. Granted, it wouldn't be the profit ****ter it is, but it would have a good amount more power to actually be strong enough to compete visually with 360 and PS3 games and surpass the graphical standards of the Xbox (which many games only barely surpass). It would also be receiving the multiplatform titles like Mirror's Edge, Dead Rising 2, Bayonetta and others that have only been announced for the "HD" consoles.

Sure, there are some good games on the Wii, that appeal to a lot of people... but they don't appeal to me. And that's the point of an opinion, to me, my opinion is the only thing that matters. I don't care that WiiFit has sold a billion copies... the only thing I care about is playing games I find fun... and the Wii isn't really getting many of them at all... and the ones it is, aren't exactly the most compelling ones and my attention tends to be drawn away from titles on the 360, PS3 and PC.

The N64 and Gamecube not only gave us some of the best games of their respective generations but made leaps in visual presentations... and STILL brought Nintendo a profit. I don't care about "casuals" and "non-gamers," they can have their fun too... I just want what I grew up with coming from Nintendo... and if they don't want to deliver it, then I'll stop buying their games and continue to criticize their decisions.

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"] *sigh* are you even reading what I'm saying ? I didnt say you thought the games were bad I said it sounds like your trying to make up excuses not to give them a chance. I mean all those AAA games that arent on Wii this gen and it sounds like your trying to justify to yourself not being interested in them b/c you dont care about graphics which is a bad reason to be honest. lets see other than the graphics, considering it has such limited hardware lighting suffers, the size of games and how many enemies can be present are also adversely effected that affects gameplay and value. I could list a whole bunch of stuff like the busted online, friend codes and no headset support but those arent a direct effect of limited hardwareSonic_on_crack

Do you have a copy of MGS4 under your pillow?

no but funny you should ask I just bought it , should be here shortly . imagine if you didnt just own a wii you could play this game too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=150324928305 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=220357047491

OMG are u saying that because i don't own a ps3 or 360 im missing out on games? thats unbelievable. Forgive me o great one!.... wait? arnt you also missing out on great games since u dont own a wii? what did u say, 3 months after launch you sold it? I guess that means No SSBB, SMG, No More Heroes, Shaun White, MArio kart, De blob... Oh look ur missing out on games too? ...but you probably don't like the games ive listed hey? well guess what... people dont like the exclusive games available on 360 and ps3 either... i dont see how its so hard to understand this. I dont want to play resistence, to me it looks like generic shooter #81964 (and before you mention it in a rebuttle i think the conduit is generic shooter #81965)

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"] No ....its just Nintendo's family first crap that gets on my nerves. dont you think theres a reason they use friend codes and dont offer a mic. but to the point Nintendo is one of the best developers on the planet . I just dont see why they cant make more adult and action oriented games.Sonic_on_crack

why should they make games you cant play ???

I'm sorry what ?

So your saying u want nintendo to make games like Sony and MS (Mature shooters and violent games)... wow... what do u have against variety? Choice empowers the consumer remember...

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"][QUOTE="hiphops_savior"]Here's one, the Wii is there because Nintendo have no choice. They have lost their domination and their 3rd Party Support to Sony, and they're backed against the wall. Someone might have thought about Nintendo doing HD, but then they realized that the development costs would've been so high that the Industry would head into a crisis. Long story short, if Nintendo did go HD, then the whole industry would've crashed because of high costs and we wouldn't even see games like MadWorld, Deadly Creatures, Boom Blox, De Blob, and NMH on the WIi.hiphops_savior
whole market would've crashed.... overstatement much ?

Several developers and publishers have gone bankrupt, and that's because the only games that are selling are FPS and established franchises. In a generation where everyone's obsessed with HD, the development costs are just too high to risk trying something new. That's why there's such an oversaturation of FPS out in the market right now, because the price is too high to take a risk on a console like the PS3 or the 360. The Wii provides developers with a console to try new things and take risks.

other than Midway what major developer has gone bankrupt

um not wanting them to make any shooters and violent games seems anti variety. I have no problem with their games but more variety (alteast one shooter and one violent game) would definitely help

VG companies that are in trouble, or that we've seen that are in trouble: Midway Free Radical -> got bought by Crytek THQ has gone under Factor5 was in serious financial trouble EA had losses -> shifting 50% of focus to Wii because of it

That's not the point, the point is that the risk of bankruptcy is very real. One wrong move and your company will be filing in Chapter 11 soon enough.

I don't care about the technology of the Wii at all. Used right we'd be in business. The problem I have is the huge lack of anything worth playing for the system. The library needs improvement. Now.

Indeed. Thats why the fact that development costs are so high doesn't help the industry. Developers usually have to stick to what sells(easiest is FPS) or find a way to gain sales to break even/make profit.

Also no one saw this economy coming in 2005 back when Nintendo decided against HD

Yeah, no one did. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that developing games for the PS3/360 cost way too much. Lair and Haze almost ruined two devs.
